I have a theory about how their technology advanced so quickly. What if that localized warp storm dropped off a space hulk dating from the dark age of technology and they did extensive research on its technology and made it their own?

ShadowHunter120 The Tau's technological prowess is due to the fact that, unlike the Imperium of Mankind, the Tau Empire is not constantly fighting a dozen concurrent wars. They had something like 1000 years of peace during which they directed their efforts not towards war production, but towards research.

Tau are both awesome and disturbing. Basically they are not obviously scary, but they are creepy. Blue humanoids, that serve a very broad cause, that could be easily translated into anything. They are like the Covenant, friendly but its leadership seemingly even more devious with their ultimate plan.

Actually I don't believe that the Tau are communists, more like heavy socialists. Anyways they have a fairly well working system from the looks of it. As a community they are more stable than the imperium which works on fear (and some devotion I suppose). Even in the case of the Ethereals having some form of actual control on the Tau, I'd argue that this is good for them as a species as they actually can keep stable above multiple systems.

The Tau standard body armour is a very good model. When the soldier is in shooting position the armour protects literaly everything and has no weakpoints, while still lighter than others. I hope the T'au will be playable in Warhammer 40K Dawn of war III, i miss them in DoW2.

Suggestion: I'd love to hear about what happens in the aftermath of an Imperial victory - do they send out special personnel to recover the bodies of the dead and salvage equipment? Do they construct huge pyres to burn the remains of the Xenos forces? Do they conduct an investigation to see if the invasion occurred because a traitor within the Imperial ranks? Do they quarantine any survivors who came into conduct with the alien forces?

the tau are actually one of my favorite factions. The space marines/other imperium forces are interesting, but they're so zealous you can essentially answer any question with "FOR THE EMPEROR!!!" and call it a day. a bit too one track minded for my taste.

I thought the Farsighted Enclaves were called that by the Ethereals in honour of Farsight before his defection, but then lost contact with those colonies later; when the main Tau empire discovered that the Farsighted Enclaves had prospered without the Ethereals, they declared the Enclaves a no-fly-zone and banned all travel into Enclave space

If you are referring to the tank that shoots a large laser beam it's the Destroyer Tank hunter which is one of the rarest, but one of the most powerful anti-vehicle tanks the Imperial guard has.

Quick question, has there ever been a human Psyker in the Tau empire who was possessed by a Chaos Demon, and gleefully slaughter thousands of Tau? That'd be cool if that happened. That' be cool if the Imperium sent a captured rogue Psyker to Tau space, and he was accepted into the greater good, but then only to have himself possessed, or summon a demon to slaughter a whole Tau world or some shit.
