Picking and gutting the exterior cylinder of a Kaken KX3. This one has three pin tumblers, four false-gated sliders that interact with a sidebar, and four bar wafers that are capable of relocking as the plug turns.
Picking begins at 2:00, open at 3:25 (full-circle at 4:56), and gutting from 5:15 to 13:15.

Smart picking and explanation, I can imagine this being a trickey pick the first time if You have no formal knowledge of the workings of the lock. Thanks for a great Vid again, billbo.

An interesting lock in any case, well analyzed with very clear explanations. I still think you missed your calling as a micro surgeon as you handle those tweezers so flawlessly. Thanks for sharing, and I look forward to your presentation of the upgraded model with dual sidebars.

Interesting lock. What would the advantage of having the two sides use slightly different mechanisms? Wouldn't it save costs and parts to have either both bar wafers or both sliders? I suppose this way only needs one sidebar, but it could be done with no sidebar if they used the bar wafers on both side. It certainly doesn't seem to be for security purposes.

I think it's more likely that this lock started out using bar wafers on both sides, and the sidebar was added as a security upgrade. There are two rows of holes drilled in the top of the housing alongside the pin-tumbler holes, and as the sliders don't ever need to extend past the plug, the only reason for those holes to exist is as a remnant from a previous tooling operation. I don't know why they continued to drill that side at all when they incorporated the sidebar, as the upgraded version with two sidebars omits the holes entirely.
