Great information, I'm shocked that they are using standard pins. For the price of these locks the security isn't where it should be. They need to see this video and take corrective action. Thanks!👍🏻

Most excellent picking and evaluation of the brand new Medeco M4. Well noted about the original M4 dealer (locksmith) poor pinning. Thanks for the meticulous details of pin numbers and types, in addition to what could be with a more difficult side pin bitting. Hopefully Medeco will let us know what the factory pinning specification should be for maximum pick resistance. Thanks for sharing

From a locksmith's perspective it is preferable to include at least one depth of pin that allows one of the steel driver pins which are only available in certain depths and in a standard (non-spool, non-barrel, non-mushroom) design for increased drill resistance since brute force attacks are more common in the field.

Regarding the driver pins w currved edges, that explains why some of the medOrig keys that I've over-cut on the bittings during copying can still work on some cylinders but not on most.

Sliders seem to be a running gag with ASSA ABLOY...they like to put them in everything.

They've got patents for them, so might as well use them.

Lol bet for the m5 it will be a m4 but it has the 5 assa twin sliders on the left side. So you have to raise and rotate keypins, pick the 4 right sliders and pick the 5 left sliders

How are you guys getting these? I’m a locksmith and I can’t find them!

Why the hell would they go through all that counter milling just to put plain keypins

I just witnessed somebody beating the UL listing. UL 437 rating is, can't be picked In a 10 minute window with normal tools. I'd send this video to UL, and let Medeco get their rating rejected. Serves then right...

Great picking on the new M4👌 Awesome explanation as always. How does the spooling on the older key pins come into play?
@legendofthesamurai
@legendofthesamurai 3 года назад
The spooling on the older Biaxial keypins appears to be designed to mimic the size and shape of the tips of the mushroom drivers -- there are two distinct thicknesses of the Biaxial mushroom tips, and I've found both of these widths present at the tops of spooled keypins. Similarly, the spooling has a fairly sharp angle at the edges of the cut, so oversetting a spooled keypin can give you similar feedback to setting a mushroom driver, with counter-rotation followed by a sharp click back into a false set. This tends to work better as an anti-picking measure when the spooled keypins are paired with standard drivers, though with the thinner spooled keypin it's also possible to accidentally overset into the spool when you counter-rotate to set a mushroom driver above it. With the M4 spooled keypins, accidentally oversetting isn't a concern as the top of the keypin is much too wide, and you can detect the overset immediately because there simply aren't any security drivers that require that much lifting after a counter-rotation. They do appear to have modified the spooling cut to match the bevel of the newer standard drivers though, so oversetting into the spool may still feel similar to setting a standard driver, though it will feel nothing at all like setting a barrel driver.

Is it a hair line coded metal inside the lock cylinder metal pieces,so that the vendor can track the lock any where,and open the lock with vendor”s key。
