a campaign with Vulkan and Mortarion is interesting because while Vulkan respected him he didn't like his mania with leaving nothing alive and the earth salted so to speak
As mentioned Death Guard are from Albia as are the Iron Hands. I always imagined the Death Guard being more English as there's the use of (anglo-Saxon) Huscarls mentioned in the Horus Heresy books and there's a stereotypical WW1 trench warfare/spirit of the blitz to them. I think the Iron Hands are more Scottish due to the dour stereotype and the old angry/good with machines and engineering trope.

I always took the conversations between Mort and Jag to show that Mort kind of liked him. I don't know how much the feeling was returned as Jag was so socially awkward but still.
I think the Mortarion-Khan relationship, as it were, would be similar to that of Horus and Khan. Both acknowledged that they were warriors, not much more, even if they were incredibly good at waging war it was pretty much all they knew. As a result, they had a healthy level of respect and were almost kindred spirits - I wager that in a way, Khan saw Mortarion in a similar manner, though Khan's pro-psyker attitude will have probably been a contentious issue for them.

I think Mort kind of liked all of his brothers (With probably one exception, try to guess who.) But this was compounded by the fact that Mortarion was an asshole. If Perterabo had the personality of an angry teenager who punches wholes in drywall because dad took a way his computer. Mortarion was the stereotypical teenager whose is apathetic to a fault and responds to everything with a "Ugh, whatever..." While silently hating everybody around him.
Garro didnt seal the door thou.. it was his human servent who closed the door trapping him and the traitors in the room with the virus bomb and garror had to watch or ear him die infront of him >.> Garror already has a good bit of lore let the hooman servent story be kinda told that all servents of the death guard were brave and willing to die for their duty as much as the space marine counter part.
So I've never been able to acertain whether they adopted the plague marine aspect when it happened or whether it was forced upon them and surplanted the sentience of the individual marine, like how existential does it get?
