I'd say you made some very good points thank you. I've had a lot of trolls/idiots claim I might accidentally shoot someone who walks around the corner, but it's my garden and it's fenced off, I check the gardens clear before I start shooting. It's pretty inconceivable that someone would randomly appear out of thin air and walk around the corner as I'm shooting. But if they did I wouldn't feel sorry for someone who's trespassing after vaulting a 6ft fence.

The crossbow doesn't weigh 150lb, it's draw weight is 150lb.

what makes a great difference too (at least with airguns) is how densely the pages are packed (if there is room between the pages or not). i found that a 320 page catalogue that had stopped a .177bullet at about page 230 would be penetrated easily if the material was not as dense (slightly fanned out to 1.5 times its thickness). follow-up shots might penetrate easier if material is affected by the first one...

Yeah it's so easy to cock that it's more of a speed and ease over power setup, I bought the prod for target shooting as the normal crossbows are too energy consuming for more than 10 or so shots. It did a lot better than I expected though.

Well I've never sued a Sidewinder but after googling it it appears it's identical to the Chasewind, comparing the Chasewind to the Firecat the Chasewind has slightly more fps and has better default sights (Fibre optic rings), while still shooting under 300fps it does add more spin to the bolt improving accuracy but lowering the bolts life. So for competition shooting I'd go for the Sidewinder/Chasewind.

Excellent L. At the useable ranges we discuss there is a level of effectiveness in both poundages, and the broadheads are doing well at short close range, which is really where its all going to happen. Next up - Chicken? Lamb? Very good test again mate. Baz.

It did, think the catalog might have been missing the first 50 pages or so. A lot of the time the bolt has to go in exactly straight, any curve and it loses penetration.

Good idea might do that on a future test. Also I'm from Oxford but a lot of people around here don't sound like this.

They certainly are, I've got a newer crossbow since this 150lb that goes even further through catalogs.

You reminded me of something that my friends and I use to do when I was younger. We actually made an in-door shooting range in my parents basement using our old encyclopedias to stop our .22 rifle and pistol bullets and we used the same page-number penetration method that you are using in this vid. Great minds think alike I guess! haha Although I do not condone shooting firearms in the house now that I'm older! ha

Nope no limits at all, but most manufactures don't seem to bother with anything over 225lb. You can modify pistol crossbows to higher poundages however. There's a guy who's subscribed to me called Sharky who did a good video where he put a half prod in-front of a full 80lb prod to rig the crossbow to over 100lb of power.

i just happened upon this older vid by chance, good vid. i gotta ask? where are you? i noticed the profound british accent but seeing the yellow phonebook, the neighborhood looks american. as for the results its no surprise the 150 pounder outdid the 40 pounder, but i am surprised the 150 pounder didnt send both tips all the way through the phonebook and into your shed wall. i'm also surprised the little 40 pounder did as well as it did. we can get those pistol crossbows here for $10-$20, and i had a couple and they was fun to shoot but didnt think they could do that. judging from your results they could be a viable option for home defense

Here in America we hunt just about everything with bows and crossbows. However pleasure shooting and plinking is normally done with blunts. Often self made by glueing an expended .357 cartridge glued over the end. These are way more than adequate for even small coyotes shot fron a lightweight bow. They dont penetrate AT ALL. We use broadheads ONLY for large game coyote size and above. The lightweight bow of yours is an ideal small game hunter. I cant tell you how expensive broken bolts or arrows are and that is exactly what you get when shooting even medium powered bows at solid objects. 130+ lbs for coyotes, hogs,and deer. 30 to 50 with blunts for squirrels and Rabbits. You dont want penetration with the smaller game.

i do not mean to sound critical. but taping the book shut stops the pages from moving and absorbing energy to prevent deeper penetration. and your accent sounds familiar, may i ask, where do you hail from?
