I was shocked when I bought my first crossbow in 2018. No comparison from my compound bow. Second time I hunted with it (south Texas), I took down a 275lb wild boar at 30 yards. Perfect heart shot. The bolt was still going so fast that it passed clean through and kept on going. For all I know, it could still be in the air! Never did find the bolt.

In my 1000 years old hometown in Germany the schoolkids go for the traditional "Beaver Shooting" every year, when we celebrate a big traditional festival that was initiated first time to celebrate the end of the 30 years religious war (1618 - 1648) in Europe. Nowadays we this Festival includes three parades, two of them in historical correct clothing and uniforms from the times my hometown had to go through. After the parades there is some 17th reenactment, there are camps of the Swedish soldiers, who fought for the Protestants, and from the Emperors troops, who have been catholics. This parades have the highest number of coaches and horses in Germany. My hometown is called Biberach, translating to Beaver Creek, so the crossbow shooting is called Biberschiessen. You see, even today, some people shoot with the crossbow. Even in Germany.

Man... be careful putting your hands inside of those strings when it’s cocked back. The triangle that it forms between the limbs is a no touch zone. If that safety gives out, it’s going to mangle your hand in a way that you couldn’t ever imagine. Load the arrow from the front. It’s better to take an arrow through the hand than it is to get your hand half chopped off. It hurt my stomach watching you load that thing.

Hello there from New Zealand! Just a tip for you... Mark the string when it's at rest on the bolt groove, so that you can see when the string is pulled back. it is centered properly. Many newbies always pull on the string not knowing that one side of the body is always weaker than the other side, therefore the string tension gets lopsided, and shoots the bolt off target. Also, use a good quality wax on the string, to stop the string from drying out and fraying! Those suckers are expensive! Lol.Good hunting!
@the.original.throwback
@the.original.throwback 2 года назад
First of all, I found myself cringing when your fingers were downrange of that cocked string, while loading the bolt and even when cocking. If that sketchy mechanism failed as you were letting go of the string your fingers would be seriously injured, at best. I had a cheap crossbow when I was a kid and had a lot of fun with it but realize now how much I and anyone nearby was at risk when we were shooting it. The alloy bow finally broke right in the middle while I was cocking it and both pieces whipped back on the string and put two serious gashes in my head, narrowly missing one of my eyes. If you really want a crossbow, get one with a cocking mechanism that keeps your hands in the clear and that can be de-cocked safely. One that you would feel comfortable letting Jack use. I'm 72 years old and still remember the shock of having that broken bow whack me in the head. Jess

I had no idea that I was going to see videos about modern homesteading, the word of God, how to be a better man, taking care of your family, raising your children the right way, reviews of good tools and bad tools alike. Basically everything that I aspire to be. As a father of 2 boys and the head of household I appreciate you so much Cody. So much so that I've even considered getting back into the religion I was raised with. I took first communion many years ago and have slowly drifted away from religion as many folks do. I want to be a better father, husband, and a better man overall. I work hard to provide for them and would love to one day own a nice piece of property like yourself. So I can take pride in that as well, and have something to leave my children. I know that this is a crossbow video, but I wanted to let you know that you inspire men to be better. Barnett has always been a good brand. I had one years ago that cocked by breaking the stock right in front of the trigger guard. Never hunted with it , but it was accurate and a lot of fun to shoot.

A word of caution. It's easy to get close to a tree/doorway/widow and when you shoot the limbs expand out smack the tree and if it doesn't break the bow it will knock the thing right out of your hands and smack you silly.

Unfortunately, to not get put in prison in UK and class as "self defence" is that you will need to have a weapon weaker than the attacker (and use it in a disarm/defensive manner) . Ie if they bring a gun, you can bring a knife. If they bring a knife, you bring a pen....... You will also get sued or put into prison for entrapment or simply have broken paving if an attacker decide to trip over them and injure themselves because you didn't put warning signs up, it also has to be illuminated if the attacker decides to come at night.

i got one of these like that exact model 150 pound crossbow and those bolts can really go far my friend shot mine at the wood pile one year and just hit the edge of a log and the bolt vanished we couldn't find it anywhere. about 3 or 4 years latter in a field in the opposite direction of where he was aiming i found the bolt while walking my dog and it was a complete half circle and almost half a mile away from the wood pile again in the opposite direction from where he had aimed. also from that i can say the cheap plastic fletching on those hold up surprisingly well to a desert sun

Excellent take. I used to do competition archery with a 45 pound bow. For under $100 you can buy something that shoots like an air rifle, has 150 pounds draw, is more accurate than a bow, and delivers the kinetic force of a musket. These are excellent tools, excellent for target shooting, and if you are in America, excellent for hunting.

I have one if you install a red dot scope like I did its extremely accurate. Also before you shoot it into a hay bail the bolt will sink into the bail I went to harbor freight and purchased some rubber/foam standing mats the interlocking ones that you can use in front of a machine...Anyway place those pads onto your hay bail then your target onto that that set up will keep the bolts from going through or sink into the nail of hey I’ve done it works great. Also I used a small pointing laser on top of the arrow/bolt rest to sight in the red dot at 35 yards. Its dead on every time
