Good to see you dabbling in N gauge. The quality has improved massively over recent years - hence my own decision to build in N. Enjoyed your update. Euan

Hi Euan. Aye, you're absolutely right. I have memories of poorly details disappointments from the 80s, but I've been bowled over by the detail nowadays. I'm not going over to N Gauge fully, but I'm thinking about maybe a shelf layout or something like that. 🙂

Chopping wood is behind me, but chopping up network cables is the new thing! I was thinking the other day that I'll be able to run trains on the layout from the other end of the house. Then thought a bit more about how daft an idea that actually is in practice! Lol

@@ManchesterOxfordGate Yeah. I'm thinking about a wee layout on a board that I can pop in the cupboard when not in use. So, it'll need to be fairly low relief. Maybe a wee shunting puzzle with a couple loops. Something I could get out easily if my nephews come etc.

A bad back! Tell me about it, It’s 03:00 am and I’m up watching your content as I to have a bad back and the pain is unbearable, so I’ve dumped a load of morphine and I’m watching RU-vid content, I had a minor op performed on my lower back and the surgeon stuck a screw in my spinal cord! I found you from watching Tony’s video and I followed a link to another channel and found you! So I’ve subscribed to your channel as I have Dave47 a channel I’ve followed for 12 years ever since I had my operation
@StrathpefferJunction
@StrathpefferJunction 4 года назад
Hi John. You have my sympathies. What happened to me probably isn't so different to you in certain respects. I say 'bad back' because it saves explaining, but I had two bone spurs stick into my spinal cord following a kayaking accident. They created a cerebrospinal fluid leak and also my cord was damaged. I have had a couple of major surgeries and countless procedures - none all that fun. I have a whole host of issues with it now. You don't realise how vital your back and spine are until they go wrong! The pain can be something else. I'm glad you've enjoyed my videos though. I hope to get back to it this year. I can only do them when my back is in a settled period, which it hasn't been for the past 6 months. But it's another year and another decade, so I hope for improvement!
@johnboughton7451
@johnboughton7451 4 года назад
Strathpeffer Junction mine was caused by stepping on a concealed piece of timber, the timber 4x2 had been used as a door stop, it failed and the timber was pushed back under the anti slip mat by the porta-cabin door and then the wind blew the door back to it’s fully open position, as I walked down the darkened corridor, I walked through the open door way & trod on the concealed timber and that’s when the nightmare started in 2007 But! It’s a new decade and I’ve got to live with the cards I was dealt, I can only take the pluses from it all and I can walk, as most persons who have under gone the same operation and it failed have ended up in a wheelchair, so I count my blessings

@@StrathpefferJunction O gauge looks so tempting hence why I'm drawn to it. Not got the room either really but the Dapol class 08 shunter is so good. I've also ordered a Heljan class 25 from Hattons which should be with me tomorrow. Hattons are selling some late 70's to mid 80's Heljan wagons in O gauge in the bargain section, worth a look. Yeah I can possible see a small garden railway taking shape in the summer lol. Need to crack on with Kirkton Road Junction though, never been near the layout for over a month now.

Hi. Thank you very much for the comment and feedback. You're a mind reader! I was hoping to set the tmd level up as an automated shunting type affair (with RTC activity and a little bit of rolling stock marshaling). It'll be linked to the main layout via an incline, but everything should (hopefully) be able to work on its own. I was also thinking on making a wee N gauge shunting layout, perhaps that I can store in the cupboard in the office/modelling room. Lots of plans. None of it will happen overnight though! Lol

Hello David, I wish you & your family all the best for this year, also glad of the update, I don't know what;s wrong with your back, but during the BSE in the late 1990's (with live stock). I worked for a vet, had to record any meat & blood used for pet food, (this involved sticking a tape ruler down a bin to record the amount of product used), I ripped the two muscle's which run along the base of spine, I had over a 4 & 1/2 year period off radiation & cat scans before they found what I had done. Even to collect my daughter from school (400 yards away) took over twenty minutes to walk! I would like you to know there is light at the end of the tunnel (how ever long) and I still struggle at times when it comes to wiring under the baseboard simply because I am at a faction of a angle the wrong angle for my back. I hope in time you will recover too.

How are you getting on with your DJI gimbal? I’ve just got the Smooth 4, great bit of kit but I would have liked a joystick pan/tilt feature, or at least have the wheel on the side do focus/zoom/tilt.
@StrathpefferJunction
@StrathpefferJunction 5 лет назад
I'm still very much getting used to it. That was the first time I used it. I have a Crane 2 that I use with my dslr, and I love the focus wheel on that. It's definitely something I miss not having. I do prefer the Smooth 4 and would have gone for that, we're it not for the fact I have an android phone. I've got the Zhiyun app for my crane and it is awful on android, but fantastic on iOS. The smooth is also a much nicer bit of gear in the hand. The Mobile 2 works well, but feels plasticy and looks it too!
@timsytanker
@timsytanker 5 лет назад
Strathpeffer Junction The Smooth 4 works brilliantly with my iPhone, very pleased with it. Bought a wrist strap for mine, the chunky handle seems to become slippery in cold conditions ( I was filming in 5 degrees) and I was scared of dropping it. Got a lead coming from China that allows me to power my phone from the gimbal. I’ve also got Filmic Pro to try now.

I see on RU-vid over and over again the British heading up to their attics to build train layouts. While almost all have insulated their lofts, few if any invest into climate control, HVAC. Where I live in Texas, doing this leads to a disaster during the first summer, if not winter. The tracks literally separate as the climate changes... Since you will most likely end up rebuilding after every heat wave, I suggest the British end the practice of ballasting their tracks... Use cork roadbed instead, and paint the cork roadbed as you choose...
@StrathpefferJunction
@StrathpefferJunction 5 лет назад
Have you ever been to the Highlands of Scotland? The temperature in my loft remains pretty constant throughout the year. I have heating for the winter and a window for the summer. Works pretty well. I only had a couple of days this year where it was notably hotter than normal, but so long as you design and build your layout carefully, it's certainly not a given that you'll have problems. Spending money on air conditioning would be a complete waste of money for me, but thank you nonetheless for your thoughts.
