Matt showed up in t he UK to bother Chris, and over pints, got into a discussion about the "ideal" amount of tuning for a daily driver, as well as whether we'd rather have a fast sleeper Audi or a slow 2013 Porsche Cayman. Agree with us?
sadly, Tuned isn't enough to pay the bills, so I had to get a day job. Working 50 hours a week at a day job puts a major delay on the filming process, but I'm working hard in order to get back to filming as soon as possible. Thanks for understanding.
This is probably one of the best videos on /Drive - the combination of Matt and Chris is just fantastic, they seem to fit each other so well and can supplement each other - they should have a show together, or at least make more collaborations!
+needraintodrift It's funny how such little changes can make such a difference, HELL just taking great care of your vehicle can have it out-performing those poor abused sports cars. *It's truly an illness, once you pop you can't stop.*
Trust me when I say you will not stop there. I got a Stage 1 tune and figured that would do it. Now dual pulleys Stage 2 Milltek exhaust, later I'm still going for more.
"My Corvette is tuned the same way!" ...this S4 with a box tune... his Corvette has aftermarket heads, camshaft, headers, pushrods, valve springs. Yep. Same way.
I totally agree with what you are saying. But, didn't he build the vette in stages? That's usually the way most of us do it, but he tends to be able to go from 0 to dream build faster than most of us. My point is that, maybe, his 'vette was only tunde at the time of this video?
I don't think he meant that literally, obviously. He meant that most cars are subdued and need to have their potentials "unlocked". His Corvette was "unlocked" with his tuning, whereas the Audi was also "unlocked" with a tune.
I mean, it's more fun to drive a lightweight car with great steering and a perfect manual gearbox than it is to drive a faster, but heavier, AWD audi Estate with paddle shifters and.
What a brilliant episode! I simply cannot describe how much I want to see Chris and Matt on screen together in future Drive videos. They are my two favourites and they work so well together. I'm only sorry I wasn't down at my mate's in the Midlands when Matt was out, haha.
I think he sold it in the end and got about £13k for it. Although that's mainly down to the fact he spent the best part of £7k on a new gearbox. This is all just from memory though. It was his Wifes car I think.
Having now watched hundreds of MF and CH videos, I can honestly say that this very early one is one of the best, certainly feels so much less contrived and more endearing for it!
Chris Harris and Matt Farah are the two reasons I come to drive. Definitely a happy day when these guys get together for an ep. Please do more episodes together guys, you seem like good mates and it's thoroughly enjoyable to watch you two being hoons through the back roads of the UK countryside!
calling the cayman "very slow" is wrong imo. i mean 275hp is quite something i guess, it may be insignificant to these guys who drive 600hp cars all day but come on, a cayman is not a slow car.
I would love to see more of this! Tuned Vs Stock. What are the limits a professional driver will push vs a everyman, as far as suspension, and can there be had a car for similar money that bests it? "If I put a good set of Coilovers, like KW Variant 3s on my G35 coupe, is there a car that would give me a better ride for not much more money?" I found this all super interesting! Plus the West meets More - West between the hosts was pretty funny! Great video guys!
Not a bad idea considering Top Gear US is now dead. Two Americans (with Leblanc) on the show plus Chris and Rory would make for a great fresh combo - exactly what the show needs.
I literally just typed an s4 vs a Cayman and you two fine fellows had, of course , thought of it. You must do more videos together since in case I get to searching more crazy videos.
MagicAyrtonforever I understand and agree with the sentiment, but as a father of two and owner of two dogs, the R will have to do... ;) Also, it will be embarrassing when you get left in the dust at the traffic light by a corny old Golf!
dany1441 Hardly.. The Cayman GTS with PDK will not be left in the dust by anyone on the street if the driver knows how to drive, in fact that goes for the manual too. Also the Porsche is all about luxury and just isn't for the masses.
dany1441 why is that wrong? You can't have it all... Some cars like a GT86, Cayman, etc are meant to be driven for their handling and their balance. Having extra torque is fun, but I would take a slower better handling car over a faster car any day of the week. While driving experiences vary and are clearly subjective, cars like the Golf R never really excite me on the road, the power novelty wears off really quickly.
geoff Your comment makes no sense also if I'm guessing what you meant by it, you are wrong. If your in the real world appearance is important, if your going to lay down the money to buy a sporty car you will want a good looking one.
Just love these videos made in some random place in the countryside, with great views, great car journalists, nice music... Simply great composition in any way! ;)
/Drive. This is the best piece you have gifted us yet. When I first saw the /Drive promo, a couple of years ago, this was what I was hoping and waiting for. MORE of Chris and Matt. More of these stories and silliness. And oh yeah, cars. lots of cars. -Love, a loyal fan.
Just my two Canadian cents, or one British pence. I very much enjoyed the juxtaposition of both Chris and Matts styles. There seemed to be a camaraderie or even a chemistry which I found as entertaining as the cars. Nicely done, thanks for the tape and let's see more of these two together please!
