Nice to see someone turning a 454 into 427 (433). I have a 454 all stock, never opened up with 781 heads. I found someone who has a standard forged 427 crank who would like to trade for my 454 cast crank. I definitely will be snagging that forged crank this weekend! I just like the way the 427 runs and sounds over the 454. Maybe the fact that the 427 is internally balanced and raps up quicker is what sets it off for me. I think I will go with a Total Seal piston setup. By the way, I plan on putting it in my '41 Chevy Business coupe.

REALSTEEL MUSCLE CARS Thanks for the info! Sounds awesome, can't wait to see your next update! I am trying to find a shop now who will work with me. I just want to do a stock overhaul using the 427 (3.76 stroke) crank, my rods and use some hypereutectic (if possible??) +20 domes. Going to sell the 781's to someone I know doing a numbers build. I will take money and invest in some aluminum heads setup to run a hydraulic roller. I hope to setup compression somewhere around 9.5:1 - 10:1. I want to burn pump gas. I don't want a cam that requires anything more than 2500 stall if possible. I have a built 200 4R that will handle up to 700 lb ft torque, more than I will make!! I have a 9" rear with 370 locker. Possibly could change gears all the way up to 410's. Don't know yet. Planning on 28"-29" rear tires. I been looking into a 'three deuces' setup for up top.

The domes i went with are +26 domes they weighed more, you could go with a lighter pin and lighten up the rods so the balance job wont kill your budget. Anyways I have a stock converter and stock gears 2.73 Off the line it ain't bad but it pulls harder the faster I go over 50 you could really feel the torq. I have 700r4 in my Elco with 3.73 gears in it 383 stoker it pull hard off the line but it don't get better with speed.....

REALSTEEL MUSCLE CARS Yeah, you can't outrun the legs on a BIG BLOCK!!! I thought that a 427 BBC would start to run away from a small block. Seems like 427 hook quicker off the line. Traded my cast 454 crank for that forged 427 crank, CHA-CHING!!! I think shop said my block will be more like 433 CID bore .030" over. Should give her some more power. I sold the stock 454 rods/pistons to a kid down the street for $200, his offer. He thinks he can make them work in his project??? I am selling the 781 heads tomorrow, $500. He might give me $100 for the stock intake too. When I get that cash I will buy the aluminum heads. I had a stock, running, SBC 350 I sold for $800 yesterday. Thought about using it but decided not to once I bought this complete 454 for $250.... Found a deal on some Scat rods and some 427 .030" over bore pistons with +30's. I can mill down domes to precisely control comp ratio. Going to work on picking the right cam grind now. I plan on using a hydraulic roller. If I remember machining total should be around $350.

I did this 20 years ago. 454 block, genuine 427 forged crank, polished, shot peened and bushed Chevy rods, Ross pistons @ 10.5:1, Edelbrock heads.Comp solid roller, 244/255@ .050", 0.645/0.655 lift, Edelbrock RPM manifold and Holley 830 carb. 600 hp, 550 tq in a '65 Malibu SS with 3.08 gears and a five speed. Still have the car. Very quick and fun ride that runs well on premium unleaded.

A 396 crank will work But would be expensive to internally balance . the big block 454 will need to be internally balanced if you want to last. A 396 crank doesnt have enough meat on the bone to balance. Weight would need to be added. At about $100 an inch With a true 427 crank its cheaper to balance because weight can be removed to balance. Internally. Just my 2 cents worth. I have 2 396 steel cranks for sale if anybody interested. Have a standard bore 396 block some 30 over 396 TRW domes and some aluminium rods for it.
@realsteelmotorcars2894
@realsteelmotorcars2894 Год назад
Balancing is always a concern, I always wiegh the pistons and rods that was used with crankshaft In this case I replaced rods and pistons with lighter weight stuff. My rule of thumb is lighter is better So far so good, I don't always Balance my builds, I mostly stick to stock type replacement parts, dome pistons can be headache Due to wieght differences , change from dish to flat top not a problem as long as pistons come from summit or a like dealer that lists the weight of the pistons. I always factor in wieght, as well as how the engine was before, but if I am say installing mix match parts with dome pistons go light wieght

@shootermcgavin2819
@shootermcgavin2819 2 года назад
Why make it worse? 454 is better than the 427. Thats the very reason why the 454 came into existence in 1970. If all things are equal, the 454 will always make more power than the 427 without having to rev it high to go get the power. 🤷
@realsteelmotorcars2894

Good question . #1 the 427 is bad ass #2 I already had the flex plate and balancer #3 it is going in a street car that will get pushed to the limit and the shorter stroke will reach higher RPM's less chance of It flying apart ... Since building this beast I found a new Home for it 1967 El Camino that'll Get the SS 427 badges and I know There is not a SS El Camino but If there was that's what I would Of wanted......so I am now making The Elco that never was...
