This evening Melissa and I cut some firewood with the Stihl MS 462, also filled the Boss Buck Feeder, and picked up my firewood baskets from the neighbor. I also talk about the Woodmizer Sawmill I recently ordered and the options I got.

Very glad to see you wearing good saftey equipment. My Dad was terrible for not having saftey equipment, he wore glasses and hearing protection most of the time. Friend from the past was working wildfire in Oregon and he forgot his saw chaps and load up and was made to go back to get them, 2 hours later he was working and somehow the saw slipped and hit his right thigh and the chaps killed the saw and he was saved from a femoral bleed, he would have died in the woods above Klamath OR. Great video.

The 29 inches of snow was in the mountains. Most of us got 4-5 inches of wet snowman mix. Heavier rain south by Colorado Springs. Beautiful.

Sawmill - EXCITING! Nice looking machine. Now you have to build a drying shed. I think the sawmill is Mike's Father's Day gift!! Those are some MASSIVE limbs! I know you mentioned this before regarding how often the wood is handled but given how fast that Wolf Ridge is, you'ld have to have 4 people cutting rounds just to keep up with it so the extra step of stacking in prep for the Sunrise Split is the way to go. Load it straight into the totes, coffee and doughnuts by 8 AM! 10% likes. I gotta believe a much higher percentage actually do like watching them or they wouldn't be subscribed and checking for new videos every day or so.

Also if you are fairly close to the Ohio line Country Saw and Knife in Salem Ohio will sharpen all your band saw blade and can also make blades for you cheaper than buying factory blades. This is the process I use ,I'm 15 miles from Salem. They are an international company so they can take care of anything you need.

One suggestion I would make would be to figure out where you want the mill and pour a concrete slab big enough to handle the mill and some amount of lumber storage or whatever structure you plan to build. Which could be home-build or a prefab thing. People seem to spend a lot of time leveling their mills unless it's on a solid base, and that has a big impact on the quality of the lumber they produce....and how much they have to mess around with re-leveling the mill.

My neighbor has a relative that has a Wood Meizer. He loves it uses it constantly. He built a temporary structure car port it's easy to setup and his machine it covered. I believe he bought the structure at Sam's club. He can set up his site in about an hour. Nice thing is that when it's not in use he can roll down the walls and its totally protected along with the lumber he just milled. If I'm over there soon I can take a picture of his setup. One thing he does do is collect the sawdust and sells it as pet bedding to the locals. They use it for I guess chicken and horse bedding but not too sure about. Can't wait to see it in action!

Congrats on the mill. Only thing i can say otherwise is the trailer package is added strenght to the rails mainly. Even if you never plan to bring it on the road it stiffens the rails so it makes the mill alot more stable and less likly to move to cut straighter and easier to pull it out and be able to clean under it especialy if you plan on making an enclosure or canopy over it later. It also makes the whole mill higher so less bending over working your log during milling. 18ft is a perfect lenght to have your likly to never regret it compared to if you only got 10 or 12ft. Cause it never fails theres always that one log a year you would need a 16-18ft 2x6 or 6x6 or such as perlings or whatnot. Even at times you might like longer but nowadays its harder to find anything that long worth sawing......at least up here in maine.

Mike I bring my logs to my wood shed on the forks. I section the log all the way across then put it on the ground and finish back cut. After about 2 or three logs like that I dump a sectioned log on top of the other log and finish back cut then repeat until I have rounds on top of each other some three or four deep. Then I fire up my TW5 Timberwolf processor roll rounds onto lift arm and split them.

Robert Powell it’s almost like they’ve never seen a country girl work in their damn lives. It really pisses me off that I’m a man and the women out there believe all of us men are the same as the first 300 that commented about Melissa’s jeans or legs or whatever. It’s a fricken embarrassment to the men out here that work side by side with our wives on the farm and I’m surprised you can tolerate it mike cause it wouldn’t take long for me to put a stop to the disrespect of my Melissa, yes, I’ve been married to a Melissa for 25 years next week. To all the men out there that are an embarrassment to the rest of us, just take your video and go to your bedroom or bathroom and jerk off and keep your mouth shut with the rude comments. Sorry mike and Melissa, I just needed to get that off my chest and you can delete if need be. These grown men are acting like middle schoolers

Whoops I didn't realize the 150 is a manual mill. When you build your shed have a heavy overhead beam so you can use a winch to turn and handle logs, you know how much they weigh. Its very handy to have electrical power available in your mill building for the winch and sawdust handling, lights and a fan in the summer is handy.
@frankcadillac9151
@frankcadillac9151 5 лет назад
Mike you probably forgot to mention but a log turner on the mill is very important, especially with the size logs you have. I ran a lt-70 mizer for a couple of years with the computerized set works they will put out. Any mill worth owning deserves a roof over its head. Whats really nice is a roof over your logs to keep the snow and ice off, it lets you work when you can't work in the woods. Good choice.

Well said Don I couldn't agree more. Melissa is a down home country girl that has one hell of a work ethic which a lot of women nowadays do not have.

Great idea using the Oil totes to haul wood in them how much do you think you get in there cutting them 16 to 18 inches long? Or whatever size you cut them?

I wish my old lady would get out and do some firewood.

Mike I think that sawmill is a good Mother’s day gift. Women are really fussy about things like that. I remember after about 25 yrs I got my wife a really expensive set of stainless steel pots and pans for Christmas. You may not believe this but they can be used as hats.

Just watching Melissa work makes me tired. My son and I just last Thursday finished up what wood I had and I now have enough for this coming heating season. We used a small wood processor to do what wood I had on hand. At my age (about 27 years ahead of Melissa) that machine just plain wore me out. It is fun watching her and then being able to stand up without much pain and get a cup of coffee.

Personally I would have went with the LT35 Hydraulic model. Super easy to setup, especially on uneven ground. But my budget is in the LT10 budget class. LOL. The LX150 was made to bring in customers that don't like their monorail design, which is a solid design and cuts perfect lumber most of the time. Can't wait to see you do proper videos on the LX150, someone that is really good at testing and looking into new equipment.

The jeans and boot are fantastic. You all need a firewood processor.

Lovin the blues! Great music today to go along with the great news of the woodmizer. LOL at Melissa's comment about seatbelt... just in case she had to swerve to hit a fox. (after having just gone through your chicken snatching experience).
