It's Oct. 2020. I took a nasty fall in my garage the other day and landed on a snow blade. I've been laid up for about a week and I am close to insanity and driving the wife crazy. I stumbled across this old video you posted and laid down and watched. Mike it was just what the doctor ordered. My blood pressure dropped dramatically and I relaxed for the first time in days, then fell asleep. Well, when I woke I cued up several more of your video postings and set them to auto-play. For the next few days I will be living vicariously through you. I hope you don't mind. Mike I thank you and your wife and my wife sends you both big hugs. We love your videos.. Please keep them coming.

WOW, another awesome video. My daily job is driving a concrete mixer for the largest concrete producer in Columbus, OH - Anderson Concrete. And, on slow days I help out in the "yard" department mowing and trimming about 40 acres of grass and 2 miles of tree lines. Since I turned 62 a few years ago, I have worn Carhartt Force breathable LONG sleeve shirts. They keep the sun off my arms and the ticks at bay. Plus, they really do breath and actually seem to keep me cooler. I have worked highway construction since I was 20 and now I have a better respect for skin cancer. Thanks for the great videos - my wife and I enjoy watching your family. Have you ever considered trying out the a Rural King UTV? Thanks, Charlie

Can't believe there are people who vote "thumbs down" on these videos. If they don't like them, then they should just go to watch someone else's videos. You and Melissa did a great job clearing that trail. Made great use of the equipment you have and the manpower (and woman power, lol). You really keep your property looking good.

Excellent job Mike & Melissa. Melissa is not afraid to get a good sweat going, way too go girl! Amazing what a couple hrs. work can do... I was doing very close to what you guys did yesterday too. Day (15) clearing brush above my pond area & laying it down off to the side. It was 89° @ 4:00 pm & 88° @ 4:10 pm & dropping. No chainsaw work, all brush work opening up the view to my worksite & the pond itself from my house. 2.5 hrs. later I called it quits, profusely sweating, temps had dropped to 82° @ 6:40 pm... Ticks are thee most insidious insects amongst parasites & totally grosses me out when I find them on my body! I will be looking into a lightweight, breathable (1) piece jumpsuit in all white that has velcro closures at the ankles & the wrists, with only my neck & head areas exposed. I am also looking into " natural " repellents that I can apply to my neck, ears & face & also onto the brim of my hat. Currently I have been using isopropyl alcohol & I have used witch hazel also. Witch hazel isn't quite as powerful but it is also an excellent astringent in either case. I DON'T use harsh chemicals on my skin for obvious reasons as the body does indeed absorb them! At the end of my workday, without exception, I strip down naked outside the porch, do an all body check for ticks & each & every stitch of clothing gets thoroughly checked, both inside & out before entering the house... I also wear a set of 12" RedWing logger boots with high calf work socks with my work pants pulled down outside the boots... I apologize for the novella here, but this is a most important topic that justly deserves attention. Bill on the Hill, Vermont, USA... :~)

Just so you know. ..on the back of your tractor. ..the top link arm...you can replace it with a chain...this will let the rear of the Bush hog go up and not hang you up when the tractor goes into a ditch. .. Great job...she still out works you. .. :)
@billonthehill9984
@billonthehill9984 5 лет назад
The pull up bar still allows the 3PH hitch mounted implements to float up or down & is safe. The key word here is safety... What I observed Mike doing crossing the ravine was to back into it first watching that the brush hog had the proper clearance... However, the chain idea would be great in a pinch if it became necessary...:~)

The deer ticks here in CT are horrendous. I treat most of the clothing I wear when working on my woodlot or hiking with Sawyer insect repellent (permethrin). It will kill most ticks and such when they make contact with treated clothes. My Mom and a few friends have had Lyme Disease from ticks, it can be very nasty if not detected early. I'm on vacation next week and hope to spend time in the woods at my lot. Be safe! Hi Hunter, hope the ankle injury is better.

Can’t wait for the next Hunter Sammich pick. Should start a pool to see which one he picks the most over a month and the winner gets a t-shirt. He’s had his fill of Parm for a while so he’s doing Spicy several times. Doubt he’ll ever go back to plain ole chicken. ONE DAY he’s gonna fool us all and get a hamburger or something. That is truly some of God’s country you’re livin in there. I’d never leave if I had that. Perhaps Sherman could make it up that hill since he’s a lot lighter? Is there a natural looking way to add some traction or perhaps find a way to drain or divert water away from that hill? Love the shot at 14:00. It ALMOST looked like you were using a drone.🙃

We seem to have a bumper crop of ticks in northern NH this year. I have had a number of them, and one bad incident with a deer tick who embedded itself in my leg and ended up giving me a bad case of cellulitis. (many weeks of antibiotics later, and all the swelling and pain is finally gone) I hope your tick issues are better in PA than in NH.

LOL we hit a warm spell here in our neck of the wood Alaska yesterday, it was 44 F(that global warming is glorious). Course this morning it is back to 28 F, but being at 3718 feet in elevation on my porch overlooking the lake and all of our compounds around it at varying elevations depending on the rock base the pads were set into. All of our plants up here are in protected home made greenhouse style structures, admittedly odd looking but serves its purpose when seen inside. Everything in those greenhouse are edible (for human consumption) and are part of our waste disposal. We have no non human processed soil, its all specific to the species needs. Everything is organic in these different soil and processed by us, in other words the plants thrive with no interference with parasites, disease, molds, invasive plants or "weeds". Horticulture was and is still my favorite study in my college years when I was young and still stupid. I have found that over the decades that everything I was being "taught" in college was not at all practical at all, when it comes to places like Alaska. The only thing of value that I learned in allot of my studies from those 3 1/2 years is to question everything, and trial by error is THE BEST education. I was luck that my mother could grow corn with NO SOIL, take that one U.W.! Yes we do allot of hydroponics, and other ways of growth without UNNATURAL means. Our seeds are hardy because of hydroponics methods, again beat that U.W.! We grow ALL of our trees as well, protected from the high winds but open to the environment. They are all in individual clay pots till they are 5 years old, then they are rotated into plots in the valley outside and down the banked walls of our man made plateau hills, surrounding our enclosed man made deep water lake/water shed. Its been in the making since 1927 and over the past 4 decades it has surpassed my father and mothers dreams who started this venture. We are a fully sustainable community and we have over the past 2 decades shown our fellow homesteaders our way of living WITH THE LAND not in the land. (even though allot of our homestead is rooted in the rock of our plateau, for it all started by excavating out mines that the gold rush created in this area, but that's another rant) Our entire family lives within our homestead, works in our homestead thrives in our homestead and has for going on a century. Very few have achieved what my parents and my wife's parent's and an entire section of a once so called uninhabitable state! We have proved adapting to ones surroundings not stripping it of its resources and moving to another resource. We give just as much as we use, nothing is wasted nothing is buried that does not grow. There is no trash collection here for there is no trash! Family, Faith , Freedom Always...

But, when I ask her to move something forward, it usually goes in the opposite direction I intended.
