Returning home from Fort William after a week spent filming at the Scottish Photo Charter and the last week of the 2013 'Jacobite' allowed me to capture this SRPS charter from Fort William to Polmont. As last year I decided to film at the wonderful location that is the Horseshoe Curve, between Bridge of Orchy and Upper Tyndrum. I chose a slightly different position from last years shot and used a little more zoom as the engines pounded their way to County March Summit.

well done for not kicking the tripod during the over 180 degrees pan, spectacular footage, wonderful sound, mainly from front loco, seemed two firemen shoveling front loco while second locomen were having tea....luvly jubly Austin, Cheers.

@@acw71000 Thanks a bunch for your replies. Give yourself a big pat on the back. You deserve it ten fold! I've looked at many steam train videos over the last couple of months, and, The West Highlander is probably one of the most enjoyable. Maybe it triggers some Scottish ancestry. My old Pop would have loved it!

So glad you managed to get some clear (if not great) weather for this again Austin. If I'd been there you'd have been lucky to see your hand in front of your face. Superb panning as ever (as you slowly screwed yourself into the ground). Words cant express how enjoyable this was to watch. Thanks for capturing and sharing it. Chris

Many thanks Bob. I think this was the best of three videos I've done at this iconic location as the sound was being carried nicely towards the microphone. It came at the end of an enjoyable week in Fort William having filmed The Jacobite and gone on our first, and only Scottish Charter. Moments after the train had passed spots of rain appeared which soon became heavier and it rained all the way home!

That was right up there with your best. It was a great idea to pan out for the last shot so we could experience some of the heroic scenery. Your film last year at the horse shoe was so successful I am surprised that you seem to have been the only person who posts on youtube who went back this year. Hopefully some more video will appear later in the week from others.

How strange to encounter you video shortly after my recent visit to the famous Horseshoe Curve near Altoona. I visited or passed by this highland one many times over the years but was never fortunate enough to enjoy a steamer traversing it and crossing the Auch: only DMUs. So, your lovely video of the two 5s heading down south not only brought back good memories but convinced me this Horseshoe is more majestic and a superior experience and atmosphere to the Altoona one, as good as it is. Thanks.
