Footage of the final week of the 2013 season for 'The Jacobite', operated by West Coast Railways. K1 No.62005 handled the final weeks trains and offered a few new photo opportunities as she was turned for two days to be smokebox first from Mallaig. The sequence of shots included in the video represents the journey to Mallaig in order of location and the same on the return so it may look a little odd in terms of continuity to see the loco tender first one minute and smokebox first the next. The following scenes are included;
Two views at Corpach, one on a windy day and the other a panoramic shot from across
Loch Eil on a very still day with wonderful reflections in the water.
Crossing Glenfinnan Viaduct and arriving at the station followed by a departure from Glenfinnan
Beasdale Tunnel No.3
A panoramic shot at Morar
Departing Mallaig
Kinloid
Loch Non Uamh Viaduct
Two scenes at Loch Dubh/Polnish
Loch Eilt near Ranochan and finally exiting the tunnel on the approach to Glenfinnan Summit.
The shot at Loch Eilt provided a surreal moment as from atop the hill we were perched on we saw a car pull up and a chap ,dressed in a kilt got out and proceeded to play the bagpipes whilst filming himself doing so. The bagpipes can be heard doing their best to drown out the K1 as she pulls away up the gradient. Not something you see every day!
Thanks to West Coast Railways and the hard working footplate men and support crews for providing some fine running.

Brilliant Austin. I loved your Jacobite last year, but this year it gets even better. You successfully combine the drama of the train with the grandeur of the landscape. Your Masterpiece! Noel

It doesn't seem a year ago that you made your last pilgrimage up to the West Highlands Austin.....you were blessed with perfect conditions, and Autumnal colours to die for....Faultless work throughout...Thanks for producing such memorable material...Regards...Bob

Excellent stuff again. The bagpipes as well make that a unique shot! I play the bagpipes myself! Love the whistles from the k1s

Pam and I feel we must be descended from mountain folk Alan as we love mountainous regions so much. I do have some Scots ancestry too as my great grandfather was born on Skye. Thanks, as ever, for your kind comments

Cheers Stuart, I think the West Highland must be one of the best spots to capture both hard working locos and splendid scenery. I can't wait for next year now!

Another set of great and imaginative locations Austin. Love the reflections in the second shot making superb use of the still conditions on Loch Eil. The rest is pretty good too of course!! Chris

Thanks very much Bob, very fortunate with the weather, obviously not the near perfection we had last year but we stayed dry and there was little wind

Thanks for your very kind comments Ian. I'm always aware when filming in desolate spots how difficult it was for the hard working navvies. Interesting how the railway blends into the landscape far more than roads

@acw71000 11 лет назад
Thanks Chris, the loco being turned was a great help allowing some different locations to last year. That second shot was extremely fortunate as it was taken on the second camera, left on wide angle as I had zoomed in on the main camera so that there wasn't as much water in the shot but an unfortunate senior moment meant I forgot to press the record button! That was really the only day that such reflections were possible

Fantastic as ever Austin , the panoramic second shot with the mirror image will take some beating but to get the bagpipes at 16-33 for me was the icing on the cake !

Cheers Andrew, it did help a great deal with 62005 being turned especially as I had pretty well done all the locations in last years video. I'm sure a turntable at Mallaig would be a good idea especially with regards to evening out the tyre wear on the locos. I'm sure you will agree it was a memorable week

Many thanks Bob, have to agree, we were lucky to be able to film in both directions as it allowed a variation on last years video. I would have paid the piper but by the time we got down from our perch he was well gone!

Thanks Mike, we were very fortunate with the weather during the week as most fell at night and when we were driving between locations. We never actually got wet whilst filming and of course, some great skies resulted due to the conditions

Admit it, you hired the bagpiper, didn't you, to provide atmosphere. Lovely lighting in that shot. Those cuttings hewn right through the rock are pretty impressive.

Thank you very much Noel, quite different conditions this year which produced some very moody skies. I feel that you have to try and show as much of the magnificent landscape as possible

Thanks very much, funnily enough I hadn't planned to do that shot but as I was walking under the viaduct I thought it might be worth a try. It was a different view to one I'd used before so that was a good thing
