Just wait till you get a few mods on it! Mine will stand up in 3rd with no clutch up just twisting throttle. I got rottweiler intake PCV tekmo header with leo vince exhaust i also went -1 on front sprocket and plus 3 on back. Lost a lil top end speed. Still tops out at 109. But way more fun down low where you want the power!
Nice! I have a ful leo Vince exhaust coming along with a PC6. I'm not messing with the airbox tho, I hear you lose some bottom end to gain top end? Also, I don't trust the rott intake with riding off-road which I want to do. I won't mess with the gearing because I want to do some touring in the future. However, I may make adjustments in the future after getting a feel for this bike.

I agree I currently own a 2022 Honda CRF450RL supermoto conversion full fmf exhaust vortex ecu and I just picked up a 2024 husqvarna 701 sm and I tell you the 450 a different beast man I love it I also love my husqvarna 701 sm I still haven't broke it in yet it has 120 miles but I will keep both because they both 2 different bikes but I love them both if I had to choose 1 to keep it'll be the husqvarna 701 sm only because of the low maintenance and highway capabilities
Nice! Great to see you can relate. It is irritating to constantly be thinking about oil changes and maintenance on the YZ, hpwever, that about all the maintenance I do. I have yet to check the valves on the YZ. We can literally ride the 690/701 across the country and back without doing an oil change. The power on this 690 is so nice, just an enjoyable bike to ride. I really love it so far, no bs.
@@jceeezy I’ve had both and the sumo’s are a lot more fun imo. Depends on what riding you do. A lot of highway riding vs back roads etc…I’ve had two 690’s

Good comparison of both bikes. I have both motorcycles in dual sport trim - YZ450FX and 690 Enduro R. If I could have just one, it would be the YZ because I don't do a lot of long-distance rides. The YZ does it all, even with 15:48 gearing, and it is a much more lively, nimble bike. The 690 gives me a lot more range for those days when gas stations are further apart, and it's a lot more comfortable on the highway but it is horrible offroad because of weight and ground clearance.
I really love thus KTM, even in stock form but it too quiet. Tons of mods coming....it will be completely transformednot just in performance but looks too.

I have a fulll leo Vince exhaust coming in a few weeks along with a PC6. I'm not going to mess with the airbox tho because from what I hear you gain on the top end but lose some of the bottom end and also more dirt could get into the airbox, I don't trust the Rottweiler intake system. Right now, this bike is too dang quiet in stock form, sounds like a scooter.

@@CycleCruzaI originally got the Rotweiller intake and use sock type filters on top of that. Then I got a Rade Garage Rally kit which might be a good option for you if you want a fairing and they have a Twin Air foam filter available that is tiny and lets you add an auxiliary fuel tank. (haven't installed the filter yet because you need the original velocity stack or whatever Husqvarna calls it and sadly I threw that out). Also check out the FMF titanium exhausts, need a little modding but they are sweet, especially with the Tekmo Ti header.
You made a review with the traction control on the 690 while the YZ has no TC... The gearing is super long on the 690, do a 15/45 swap and try again with the TC off. ;)
Yo, cycle cruza, I just picked up that same bike. The deal was too good to pass up. They told me valve checks are required at every oil change, every 6k miles. Im still reading the manual, but it seems kinda overkill. Thanks, man.
Cool to see the comparison! I owned a 690 for years and did many ADV trips on it. Couple things I found annoying while doing such trips 1. Gas tank in back is fine but the opening sits right underneath all your luggage. The BMWs have the opening on the side (probably for that reason) 2. Gas mileage sucks. Even tho it's a 3 and change gallon tank, you still have to fill up every 100-130 miles. For ADV riding, that's not great.
@@CycleCruza I did. After market exhaust, seat. hand guards, sprockets, etc. I didn't experiment with any of the extra fuel options because I felt the price was too high for not enough difference. It was a great bike for almost anything ... shoot... i even rode single track with that beast. But for ADV, there's better options at that price point.
Yo Cycle Cruza check out the 890 SMT KTM is considered a Supermoto slash touring bike. Just saying. It has a TFT dash, cruise control and three rider aids. Give it a test ride and see if you like it.
I know it says 6k miles between oil changes, but I advise 3k, and make sure to check your oil level fairly often. I have 3 of these motors in my garage, and they all use some amount of oil. It wouldn't be a KTM if they didn't :)
I have 3 smcr’s 19/22/23. If you want a stout combo I recommend a powercomander 6 from Rottweiler, kn air filter, Ktm evo 1 air box lid, delete the o2 sensor with a fuel dongle and last a wings muffler after all this il put any 450/500 to shame on the streets and twisties
Pipe, intake, and remap... it's money well spent. I have a '21 E I have SM wheels for and I think it's one of the best and most versatile bikes I've owned. You can ride it everyday and a lot further than the WR. I've owned a few 450s and a 500; won't sell the 690 for awhile. It does well off road too.
Hey, I like the Michael Franzese intro rip off 😂😂😂. I think you like the 450 overall. Plus you like that lighter weight. Both nice bikes. The 690 has a bigger gas tank and 6k mile oil change which is VERY nice. Hopefully, your next purchase will be a super sports bike or a cruiser, like a Harley Davidson Road King.
My man knows the deal 500 best of both worlds tiny bit longer on the maintenance because it doesn’t have to work as hard as the 450 to make the same power there’s nothing like it the torque on the 500 wants to bull your arms off too love my 2023 500 supermoto 😊
I'd definitely go for the YZ450 as I grew up on dirt bikes. Nostalgia hits hard when I grew up doing offroad and motocross. But honestly I got a chance to test ride the new Hypermotard Mono coming up so I'm curious how it compares as there's already a few KTM 690's at my dealership.
I'm going to try and get a test ride on a Ducati 698. I don't like the double exhaust, extra weight and bulk. I never liked dual exhausts on dirt bikes.
I'm trying to find a KTM 500 to run street tires on. You have inspired me. But there's a good deal on a KTM 690 smc up here. Ugh. Decisions decisions. The 500s are the same price!
You are not comparing apples to apples. That 690 is currently road legal in California and Europe. Your YZ is road legal in Tennessee circa 1964. You got to uncork that 690 then we’ll talk. The 690 will always be heavier so if racing on a short track is your end game then you’ve got the wrong situation going on. The 690 will have legs/stability that your YZ won’t which would only work in an environment where the top speed would be faster than the YZ could accomplish. Get rid of the secondary air system, open air filter, recycle that thermonuclear reactor of an exhaust flash/powercommand that bitch and we’ll talk. With the loss of weight and given the better frame geometry & suspension superiority, that 690 will destroy your YZ and basically every sport bike on the road up to speeds under approx 200 kph. 🤙

Wild bike! Be careful in Ohio they got me for wheelies and gave me a reckless op 224$ and 4 points that also flagged the insurance company and they raised it 10bux a month.. I tried to switch carriers and was rejected so there's that!! Thanks for sharing! I'm not gonna stop bustin wheelies tho!~
You should do both, you can't ride the 450cc that much because of the high maintenance as where the 690 I can ride to California and back without doing an oil change.
@@CycleCruza I like bottom end grunt the 450 has. But haven’t ridden anything that powerful. Biggest I’ve rode was a 250 dirt bike and that was pulling wheelies on me. I’m working my way up haha
You should have bought the KTM-890 SMT, at least. More modern electronics, roomier for light touring, and more desirable at time of sale or trade in. A bit pricier sure, but not by much. 🤷🏻♂️
the 690 is better if you get the windshield also it will pull up and flip over in 1 2 and 3 no problem also turn off the tc youre riding with it on I can seee the lights aren't off
If you can afford it, always get a new dirt bike to do a supermoto build unless you know the seller and how he rode it and maintained it. Dirt bikes tend to get beat on a lot and get worn out unlike most used street bikes.

LOL! I had to because this stock exhaust is so quiet. I have a full Leo Vince exhaust coming. No, first service will be done at 600 miles at the KTM dealership to make sure I don't have any issues with the warranty. Also, I won't be doing any performance mods until after the first service is done. After the first service I will do oil changes myself.
hey cycle cruza, you still ride with tc on. at least on my gasgas es 700 it limits the ability to wheelie and the gearing is damn long. So if I want to wheelie in 3rd, I have to go at leat 55 mph. At this speed I don't even need the clutch.
Thanks for viewing! That is the breather tube coming from the fuel tank, you'll see this on dirt bikes. The tanks have to vent to allow for the expansion of the fuel and the ingress of air - if no air can get in you'd get a vacuum forming inside the tank and no fuel would gravity feed to carbs/injection system after a few kms.

Another thing don’t do a soft break in run it like ya stole it. I did the soft break it on my 2019 and it used oil until 2500 miles I stopped doing that on my 2022 and 2023 smcr’s and they don’t use a drop like my 2019 did
Acquistato KTM smc 690 - R anno 2023 dopo aver avuto un modello precedente della stessa moto. Davvero un abominio di moto. moto notevolmente nel motore e nella componentistica. Visto l’abominio acquistato ho deciso di modificarla completamente per provare a farla andare correttamente. Ho completamente modificato la moto con: - Scarico Tekmo completo no cat - mappa dedicata - filtro aria dna - rimozione ricircoli e cannister La moto è migliorata ma l'erogazione rimane pessima. Cosa poi che non riesce ad essere modificata è la mancanza del freno motore causa intervento elletronico. Non si ha quindi freno motore e sembra di guidare un 2T. inoltre l’accelerata che viene data ti fa sbagliare i punti di frenata se freni forte. La qualità di tutte le plastiche è poi peggiorata tantissimo, ho già i carter del motore tutti segnati ( probabilmente dovuti ad una plastica più scadente ). Pessimo acquisto NON COMPRATE questa moto se volete un motard
In conclusion. The 450 is way more fun to ride but needs more frequent oil changes and fuel fill ups. That KTM makes a terrible long distance touring bike with no wind protection and a dirt bike seat. You won't be doing hooligan stuff on it or taking it offroad for fear of dropping it. Sell it and cut your losses. :)
Actually, the KTM is a very enjoyable to ride on the highway, at least for me. I love this bike and not just saying that. Try one, see every other motovlogger that rode one and you'll be hard pressed to find a negative review of a 690 smc r or the husy and gsgas version.
My 1990 350s will pop up in the 1st 3 gears and 4 gear will clutch up and 5/6 gear nothing . Lol . Really the KTM 390 is a better bike for off-road riding .
Yeah for pure off-road riding the smaller lighterweight bike is the best but the cool thing about this 2019+ yz450fx is that you can custom tune the engine via your smart phone and load two maps on the switch, so it is like I have a 250cc and 450cc bike all in one, so when I head off-road hit the switch to map2 which tames the power down to like a 250cc.

It's a question not a smart remark back C.C. I had Harley's my whole life . I don't want heavy no more . Plus I'm into off-road riding . I had a DRZ and I got hooked on it . The funny thing is I think the DR350s was a better bike in everything. No radiator it comes with a 6speed has a bulletproof motor well its dependable to say the least . The DRZ has a radiator no 6speed taller heavier the bike has a tad more h.p. power but the weight takes away from it . I can't see why they would stop making the DR350s ? Was it a sale thing . I don't know 😕. My year is kick start only . But it's simple and easy . Starts usally 1st or 2nd kick it's starts . At least if I had a battery issue I can still start my bike . Minus headlights but I'm still moving !
Unless they changed it, the suspension and geometry on the 390 adv sucks for offroad, 690 enduro R is better. Beta 390 is way better offroad but has tiny oil capacity.
@@brianrahuba6919 Yeah sucks no one makes a street legal bike like the DR350 anymore. I think they still make the DR200? Though that won't do highway. Would be nice if Yamaha came out with something like a new air cooled XT400 to replace the WR250R with decent suspension and light weight, maybe tall and short seat options.
@autismion I'm not positive, but I thought I saw for 2025 a XT500 . I'm almost sure . It did have a radiator, but it was compact and up high in the frame . It looks like a flat track bike . If I'm wrong, I apologize, but yeah, it was a Yamaha .
You just don't know how to ride the KTM yet. You don't know what you're talking about.. You haven't even run this KTM yet.. They make the same bike in off road as well. I've had my KTM 690 up to 135 mph.
What state do you live in? I have State Far here in Ohio. Ohio has the cheapest insurance rates in the entire country, one of the reasons why I sold my GA property and decided to stay in Ohio.

When i was younger driving in Mi didnt know different or have comparison. Plus much longer ago so think cheaper. I pay around $160 month for Van, scooter, bike and some hospital indemity i have no idea how to use or what is. Pays me tiny amount if in Hospital. Also have some accident insurance different company some hot girl conned me into while at work. Ya ya im busy hurry up...ok ill take it lol.
Yes you can, go look at motovlogger's Jake the Garden Snake's video on weighing a bike. He does it my way, front and back and also he weighed it with a center scale and they were both the same weight. Also, go look up the official weight on the KTM 690 SMC with fuel, 355 lbs. Mine if 1 lb off because I did not put on the passenger pegs.
