Folks have already expressed my same sentiments about this video, but I still want to say fantastic job, thanks so much for the info, and wonderful to have these clear instructions with examples and sourcing info too! 😁🙏
Thank you so much my friend I really appreciate it, also I’m so pleased that this video will help everyone make a disc detainer pick, to enjoy picking disc detainer lock. Have a fantastic weekend & stay safe. 👍
Thank you so much mate, I’ve tried a few ways to make them, with out having to use a lathe, this is definitely the easiest & most precise way I’ve found so far. Have a great week. 😎👍
Thank you so much Mate, I really hope this video helps everyone to make a cheap & easy Disc detainer pick so they can all enjoy picking disc locks. Have a great weekend Tipene. 👍
Thank you my friend I really appreciate it, I’m going to be putting together a DIY kit with all the bit needed to made this, & a few all made up. But it won’t be until the New year. Thanks for watching & commenting. Have a great week, Xmas & New Year. 😎👍
Nice video, I just got an Abloy 341 "The Enforcer" to work on, it has the keyway that looks like a smile. I also have one with a half moon, but it has a key. Have a great day
Thank you so much Wayne, it was an absolutely pleasure to make this video, I really hope that it helps everyone to make this cheap & simple to make disc detainer pick. Have a fantastic weekend. 😎👍
Outstanding work Daz. I have tried to help countless with this but to this extent. You did a bang up job. If this doesn’t help I’m not sure what else would. Stay safe my friend.
Thanks Albert, I know that the professional Disc Detainer picks are very good, but they are out of reach for the majority of locksporter’s & as you know disc locks are fantastic fun to pick, so this simple Design will be easy & cheap for everyone to make. 😊 Have a great weekend mate.
@@dazevers I completely understand. I wanted to buy the Ableater but it costs as much a used car. 🥴. If I can ever find the time I want to make an Abloy pick. But to be honest I don’t see Abloy locks much so it’s just not that important. Like you mentioned, DD locks are great locks and a super cool skill. Still not many people that can pick them. Most thought the Sparrows tool was magic. Can’t rake a DD lock.
I was glad to hear, I wasn't the only one harassing you about this video lol It did not disappoint, gave me loads of ideas. I will have to watch a couple more time, you packed tones of information, witch I loved by the way. Thank you, thank you for making this. Hope I can do something as cool as yours.
Thank you so much mate, I’m so pleased this vid is helpful, I’ve been meaning to make the video for a few weeks now. I really hope that it helps everyone to make a disc detainer pick that cheap & easy to make, so they can all enjoy picking disc locks . Have a fantastic weekend.
Thank you so much I really appreciate it. I’m so pleased that this video helped, the pick is really straight forward to make, the tips & tensioners are a little fiddly but fun to work on. Have a great week. 😎👍
Wow. You have a great pick design and I think it's as good or better than the 400 dollar silver bullet which is great, but way to expensive. Such a great job and Thanks for sharing. Again great video. Take care and looking forward to seeing the other videos. Be well and have a great day. 👍🙂🍻
Thank you so much Brian I really appreciate it. I agree the SB is so expensive & out of reach for the majority of us Locksport’s which is why I really wanted to design & make one that we can all afford & make with the minimal of tools. Have a great weekend. 😎👍
There's a good reason the silver bullet costs what it does and I promise, it's not because I am getting rich from it. It costs a lot to make to the specs, tolerances, using the materials. At the end of the day you can make a pick from a car aerial, or 2 wires. The silver bullet is actually the cheapest professional DD tool available, and by a huge margin. You're looking at £1600 for the next one. Forget the knurling, 2x laser engraving and case, good luck picking an IFAM, or similar.
Some video that mate. I wish I'd seen this before I just ordered the sparrows. You went right into the detail...love it. Happy picking mate and have a wicked new year buddy.
Thanks mate, the Sparrows DD really is a great pick, a good price to, some of the other DD picks run into £100’s which is not really good for Locksport. My DD is cheap & easy to make it will also pick virtually any Disc Detainer lock. 😊 Have a great week & New Year. 😎👍
Thanks mate, I really hope that this video helps a lot of people to be able to pick Disc detainer locks as they really are so much fun. Have a great week Giles.
Thanks my friend, I’m so pleased that you like the pick. If I can find the time to make a some I will let you know, I’ve had a few emails from people that want one. I will drop you an email when I’ve got some made. 😎👍
Absolutely fantastic tutorial on all those picks. Clever and easy to make, Thanks heaps for sharing your great designs. Will you be doing a tutorial where you give the measurements of how long those tips made out of the tube need to be, the length from the tip end to where the tubing starts to get shaped to the pick. Cheers mate
Thank you so much PW , I’m so pleased that you like & found the video helpful, I will definitely be making a video on the picking tips & tensioners. But if you have any specific questions just drop me an email & I will forward you all the info. Have a great week. & stay safe . 😎👍
Wow. Great video. I just bought a Chinesium pick but I have a feeling I might be upgrading to one of these after that, because I have little metal tools but certainly enough to make this. (I have a good tapping set so that should get me a long way)
cheers for taking the time Daz, gonna have a go at a DD, been making 2 in 1s in batches of 3 a day, just finished some Era/Yale/Ace pin Old English padlock picks and next week I’ll do a batch of 5 gauge stubby mortice picks. Great fun using the lathe and mills for making things that then open a lock, like giving birth, hahaa. Hope you’re having fun with the pick blank steel😛🤣♥️
Hi mate, having a lathe & a milling machine 😍, I’m very envious. 2 in 1 lever pick are very similar to disc detainer picks so I’m sure you will be able to make a very cool pick. It will be really interesting to see what you make. The steel is awesome mate, I’ve still got a few bits of the 10mm you used to sell, I only make a few picks each year now. These disc detainer locks have taken over my life at mo.😂😂 I hope all is good stay safe & have a great week.
@@dazevers no way, that’s brilliant, I remember that box of blanks fondly, it brought up a whole group of us on UKLS, teaching us how to make picks. The 8mm seems to be just as popular, can’t believe that out of 2 coils, I’m down to the last couple of hundred. I need to make a warded pick, I’ve just found a Diamond brand Chinese padlock from school, never have picked it, haaaa, my nemesis. Great to see your superb work, love the feel of the vids💪😛🤣♥️
Great vid, so much interesting content. It is true that a tool such as the silver bullit may be a bit expensive for many (but an exceptional tool), your homemade tools just nay be may be the solution. Don't forget to send me your logo if you want a few stickers.
Thank you so much my friend. This is why I made this video, disc detainer locks are truly awesome & so much fun to pick, I really hope that this cheap easy tool will help so many people to be able to pick them. P.s I’m so sorry I didn’t reply to your previous message I did mean to. I’m really interested in getting some sticker made, I will drop you an email so we can so things out. Have a great weekend.
I haven't started disc picking yet either but I'm definitely getting the sparrows pick if nothing more than out of respect and for decoration I'm definitely going to do this instead of paying $500 for a pic
The Sparrows DD pick is very good, especially for the price, $500 for a Locksport tool is a lot of money, considering this is just a hobby for us all. This pick I’ve designed in such a way that anyone can make it & everyone can afford it. Disc detainer locks are such a lot of fun to pick. Have a great week my friend. 👍
I like your design choices Daz 👍 Making things so simple normally requires quite an effort on the designing side. I can think of some changes but nothing really to make it simpler. 🎩🎩 off 👍 I'm mostly managing on the tool building side, with the occasional mess ups, but the silver soldering thing is something I never tried. I need to find a source of small tubes here... Your design is high in my experiment todo list 👍
Thank you so much my friend, this DD pick really is easy to make & works a treat. The majority of the bits I got from EBay, apart from the ejector pins that came from AliExpress. The silver soldering is really easy as well, but there’s plenty of video’s on YT. If there’s any specific questions or help you need just drop me an email, I’m always here to help. Have a great week. 👍
Impresionante trabajo, amigo Daz.
Great work, and if you can't get the right pieces you may find that the smaller brass pipe fittings may come in compatible sizes, but I'm only guessing at this point, though they may cost a bit more, you just gotta use what you can find and repurpose! have a great day
Well you certainly packed a lot into this video. It contains an awful lot of useful info. What a great pick that doesn't cost the earth and hopefully the parts will be easy to source. Thank you so much for the effort you put into this video and I am sure there are going to be videos of locks being picked with replica tools. I am thinking a meme may be developed that says "I am going to use the pick that Daz Evers designed". 🤣👍🏻
I’m so pleased that you found the video helpful, I’ve tried a few ways to make a Disc detainer pick that didn’t require a lathe, I think this is by far the easiest & cheapest way. I really hope that a few people make this pick & enjoy picking disc detainer locks. I will get a video made soon on the picking tips & tensioners. Have an awesome week Roy. 👍
Wow what a great job! The "killer" DD pick system is born. Leaves everything else I've seen in the dust! I hope you can start selling these somehow but doubt you'd keep up with the demand. 😏 I read in the other comments you were thinking of putting together a kit - is that available now? Great work and thanks for sharing with the world.
I read on Sparrows website that they're "always looking for new designers (who) have a product" - maybe you want to reach out to them? They'd be foolish not to seriously consider producing this one!
Great tutorial, many thanks. Only thing I can't find where to purchase is the injector pins. any pointers as to where to buy them would be much appreciated
Hi my friend, I’m really pleased this was helpful, the ejector pins can be brought from Amazing or AliExpress. You will need the 1.5mm one’s for the normal tensioners & the 4mm shaft pins to make the Classic tensioner. 👍
Daz I am once again asking for any information on how you made those additional picking tips for abloys. Looking through the shopping list I am having a hard time visualizing the process you went through.
Great Video.... but are you talking about "injector" pins or "ejector" pins.... from what you have written in the description, it seems to be injector pins, but what are they traditionally used for? They appear solid.... Thanks for clarifying... Doug
I'm in process of making this pick, and I've mostly been relying on a regular file. The stainless steel pipes that I've got were definitely way easier to work than the ejector pins (is what those are actually called, their intended use is in molding). At first I couldn't even make a scratch on an ejector pin that I've got, but after scraping it with sandpaper for a bit and then breaking up the surface with the edge of the file applying decent pressure, it started to give in. Almost feels like their surface is hardened, but I have almost no experience with a file prior to this, so don't take my word for it.
I do plan on making a video on the different pick tips & tensioner soon. But the tube for the middle tensioners i make from 2mm OD - 1.7mmID stainless steel. This i think is the best. 👍
Wow 😳 that's what I'm talking about those picks are fantastic I tend to be ham fisted to make such works of art, so the next question is do you sell the set? or individual pieces I'd like to get to the next level.... Robbie from Huyton Liverpool UK. Please give it a thought! Many thanks.
Hi M8. so i have to ask. Have you thought about modifying the sparrows DDQ picking tool so that it would accept different tips so you could pick all the styles?
Does anyone knows where to buy “16x (to compensate for any errors) 5mm (O) metal inserts with a M4 thread”? I searched but could only find od 6mm m4 inserts. Thanks.
Thanks my friend. If you are in the UK all the bits can be brought from EBay apart from the ejector pins. Which can be brought from Amazon or AliExpress. If you search 20mm thick walled Alu tube that should get you too the place to buy all the Bits. The grub screws & little inserts can be brought from 100’s of place’s on EBay. I hope this helps 😎👍
Great pick. I'm trying to recreate this design in CAD, but am a bit confused on how the "grip" piece (the brass one, you also showed a few variations) attaches to the 10mm tube. If the 5mm hole is drilled AFTER / above where the 10mm step bottoms out, then there is no mechanical way to grasp onto the tube. Does the grip even attach to the 10mm tube, or does it just hold the picking rod thing and the tube follows along? If this was the case, then adding markings to the tube wouldn't really work, since it would act more like a free bushing than anything else. I think I'm misunderstanding the design. Thanks for your help, I'd love to build this pick!
I’m definitely thinking about it due to the amount of interest in the pick. I will definitely be making a couple up & doing a GIVEAWAY in the next few weeks. 😊👍
I also was wondering if you would consider making a diy kit with the parts in one package. I would snap that up in a heart beat. Great tutorial as well. Cheers!
@@Osirus1972 Yes I’m definitely going to put together a kit for all the components to make this DD pick. I’m just organising the bits. I will k look at everyone know when they are ready 👍
Very very interesting video 👍🙂 Bingo my interest to this platform of cylinder's and more.... now !!! Very good information about dicks locks! Thank you Master 👍🔓👏
also... where on earth did you find those flush metal inserts with the m4 tap? did you make them yourself? I found one that were knurled or also had threading on the outside as well.
Thank you mate I really appreciate it. The Sparrows DD pick is truly fantastic. I really hope this video will help everyone make a universal DD with out having to spend to much. Have a great weekend & stay safe. 👍
@@dazevers I think homemade tools which only cost a few quid sometimes work as good if not better than the ones that sell for silly money Well done sharing yours mate 👍
Thank you my friend. I’m so pleased this video has helped, this DD pick really is very easy to make, & works a treat. The picking tips & tensioners are also fantastic fun to make. Happy picking & have a great day. 👍
Can't you just unscrew the tension & disc manipulation parts on the sparrows tool and attach your modificated tension and disc manipulators to the sparrows tool ?
That's what I ended up doing, but not with the Sparrows tool (can't really get my hands on one conveniently), but rather with the typical Chinese combo of two picks (one with the handle like he shows at 15:07, the other is the one similar to Sparrows except typically in nickel-plated steel look). I just reused the knurled handles that have the screws to hold the tensioner and the picking tip, so all I had to do was make those
@@bigMmarshall I’ve just had a look & Amazon sell the ejector pin 1.5mm & upwards, The last time a got some, i got them from AliExpress . I hope this helps. 😁👍
Buongiorno amico mio spero di trovarti bene e in ottima salute E un po che non pratico per vari problemi. Ti volevo chiedere se potevi indicarmi dove acquistare oppure costruire un attrezzo per abloy protect Grazie mille a buon rendere
Most of the measurements are in the description; the cutout can just be made with a file and doesn't need to be precise; it's just here so that the set screw can press the 6mm steel tube against the 10x6 aluminium insert to fix the steel tube in place
Ciao Daz,come va? Spero benissimo Potresti costruire per me un grimaldello per assabloy protect? Fammi sapere quanto costa ti invio i soldi.. Buon lavoro amico
