We owned a smaller "Apartment" Dyson... would not "suck" up anything... After a few years... of it not working every time I wanted to use it. I tossed it off my balcony... and man did it feel good when it hit the ground. It was tough, only the wheel cover came off. I owned a Kirby G4 for years.... and they are built to service... and keep. Best money I ever spent. My wife has major back problems, so she cannot use it. She just cannot lift it. For me, or the strong; it is great. We own a Shark now. She Love's it, and can use it... and best of all... cannot kill it. I loved your review, and I just am so amazed at the mess... almost throw away design. Most folks could not repair that. Anyway, fun video.

@jimgillion6453
@jimgillion6453 7 лет назад
OK, guess we need to tear down an old computer and find some cables and hope the ends aren't destroyed when we make them fit the DC28 or try to use the old ends. (and what did you super glue together?) the difficult part is disassembling the vacuum LMC and nozzle housing which you blow through at fast forward. what was the time frame for the complete repair? I would guess a couple hours the second time. I assume that the harness you repair is not the one sold by dyson as there are no parts available to repair the nozzle head?

how to make it reliable take all the boards out of it you will loose height adjustment every hard drive cable plug the small hole on motor and take the servo with the clutch turn it in till its tight gorilla glue the gears so it wont disengage solder black wire from man board to main black from power do the same with the common and you now have a good vacuum!!!

I've an old Riccar 1400 canister vac. Four screws & you can replace any part in the beater head. In over 20 years I've only had to replace the hose once & I needed some parts for the head. But decided to replace the head instead. The replacement head cost less than $100. I paid $250 for the vacuum 20 years ago. I've heard some real bad things about the Dyson. The repair shop says they keep him in business. LOL BTW the head automatically adjust for carpet height without a muscle...LOL

It poorly designed, not over engineered. I worked on one where the PCB board was in the air duct. Did the engineers ever think about static electricity? Or just the just dust alone? Guess what fail on that one? Then some of the newer Dyson use cheap plastic that connect to main switch that breaks, how I trashed picked my last one. I hate Dyson’s and don’t get why people pay as much as they do for them.

I love my DC28 Airmuscle so much that I will never trash it or get rid of it by any means whatsoever in anyway shape or form. Adamant Decision: I’m not getting rid of it! The point I was making is how can anyone tell by how your repairing the vacuum when the procedure is Timelapsed. Does it ever occur to you that there might be enthusiasts watching this video because they are interested in how to refurbish it? Your audience can’t tell how you are doing the repairs due to the Timelapse in this video. You’re also hardly showing how the repairs are being done because of it. Perhaps you can show this without the Timelapse and show us close up on how the repairs are being done.

@danielp763

based on the content of this video, you overengineered the repairs more than Dyson overengineered the vacuum cleaner. the flashing lights in the switches, according to the manual, mean the cam assembly is blocked or jammed. 99% of the time all you have to do is clear out the cam assembly of accumulated dust and hair, not disassemble the entire vacuum because you "know" what's wrong beforehand. You can see at 7:35 a big ole dust bunny fly off the cam without you even realizing it. You fixed the problem by accident without knowing! Not to mention the lack of any visible damage to the cable itself. If you knew what you were doing this could have been a 5-minute fix, but you overcomplicated it about as much as possible. While unnecessary, the adjustable height roller and the air muscle are useful features. The adjustable height allows the vacuum to be used effectively on every type of carpet from short pile rugs and mats to more lush long pile carpets and the air muscle helps to keep the brush head in good contact with the floor surface so the bristles have a chance to get deep into the carpet fibers instead of just getting the tops like can happen with some vacuums. They're certainly not critical features but they can be useful on some surfaces.

I've had this vacuum since released and have never had this issue even with near daily use. You make a few mistakes in the short portion I watched. the filters are a pre and post motor filter. I have no idea why you would think the post motor HEPA filter is for filtering parts of the brushes? as I write that I assume maybe you were referring to the motor brushes but even so, the HEPA filter takes out much more than just that as evidenced by what looks to be ruined filters on your unit that definitely need replacing. shouldn't be black if you've been doing the maintenance properly. You keep referring to the device as overengineered but I think it is more so you have an overly simplistic view of what it takes to make a quality vacuum that doesn't exhaust dust back into the air. I'm not sure what your wife is doing with the vacuum to keep breaking it, but tell her to calm down and not spend an hour rocking it back and forth from locked upright to unlocked. you shouldn't be replacing that cable with hard drive cable after going through all that trouble to fix the neglected vaccine. why not make a more durable cable from some high strand wire and stop using the wrong cable to replace it. most HDD cable I've taken apart is single strand copper which you DO NOT WANT. One crack and it's done. Use something, anything, with a strand count above 1 and problem solved. now when she abuses the thing and a strand breaks, it won't matter. over engineered would have not used a harness but wireless to communicate control to brushbar or modulated the air to transmit information. dynson vacuums are sold on engineering, it is how he started everything and continues to this day. you want a simple vacuum, buy one. Dyson vacuums definitely aren't for you if you insist on simplified versions of technology with their problems and all.
@Casey-uk3wy
@Casey-uk3wy 7 лет назад
Yes the motor has two brushes. And which emits carbon. Which is black.
@lostintheelectricalaisle5318
@lostintheelectricalaisle5318 7 лет назад
But not that black unless you're not washing your filter. Still have all original parts with mine and even with daily use it is nowhere near that colour and I've got 2 large dogs and 2 cats plus I vacuum all sorts of stuff I probably shouldn't. While some carbon will be emitted it is a small fraction of all the other dust that makes it through the cyclonic filtration and why it uses a HEPA and not a simple filter that could catch carbon had that been the intent. Wonder what sort of restriction that trashed filter is causing. Those intake pipes look pretty nasty.
@jameslarson6555
@jameslarson6555 Год назад
Agreed, that filter is bright white and easy to clean. Never have seen one that was black, maybe it was the lighting or camera angle.

You actually can take out the beater bar on a DC28, you just need to detach the cleaner head in order to access the high torque clutch and loosen it up and then pry out the beater bar and replace it. You can replace the beater bar it’s just requires extreme patience and twice the effort of other Dyson models. So instead of replacing the entire cleaner head, you can rebuild it with a new beater bar.

if you have the capability to manufacture an improved cable with all 4 ends designed to fit the board, then sell it for $30 (poorly designed original is $15), go for it, there may be a market for it. the original likely lasts for 3 or 4 years, so replace it once in the vacuums 7 or 8 year life.
