good job in the video i like to glue one side of the cork gaskets used to be a chevy mechanic we found out on the old valve covers that were stamped steel that worked really well and they could be reused some times.
Glad to see you "Snappin" again! My Pa In Laws old one is leaking grease like crazy at the right rear wheel. I paid a guy to replace the boots but obviously needs more. I keep hearing my Dad`s voice saying "Boy if you want it done right, do it yourself!" Thanks for the vids!
I decided to find this video just to make sure that I was doing it right. Found an 8 hole gear in a tear down of a donor machine and was rebuilding the 307XS Snapper that my dad bought in 1968 and put my butt on mowing the 8 acre lawn. I reused the bolts and had to use a rotary wire brush to get all the old loctite out of the treads on the bolts. Then, when I got all the gears lined up, found about .020 error of alignment. This, I discovered was due to the old loctite inside the bolt hole threads. Ran a 5/16 x 24 tpi tap through the holes to clear out all the old thread sealant and the alignment problem went away. Put some loctite medium loctite on the bolts and torqued them all down, checked for proper gear mesh, and was satisfied that it was good. Then, I found this video just to be sure that I was not forgetting something and reassembled the rest of the differential. Thanks Jim for posting such detailed and informative videos. You have helped more people than you know keep their mowers in good working order.
Just put mine back together yesterday for my 33 inch. I did not know that both gaskets came together. Wish I would have trimmed the differential gasket. Oh well. Now I have an extra set. Need to adjust the cable for the clutch brake and get the end caps on, grease the hex tube, and finish boot clamping. Will fill with 85W-140. If anything is not quite right, I know I can find it on your videos! Thanks, Jim.
@@SteveFrankFilms trying to get some pictures of where it’s leaking out of before you switch from snapper 00 to gear lube there are some points you have to seal so it doesn’t leak. Jim
Well, if you look at video numbers, 315 and go to the description section, you’ll find a complete list of all my videos by description name, and a number to help you find videos you need, as far as I know I am the only person on RU-vid that numbers the videos to help my viewers find the ones they want. If you need any help please let me know. Jim
I used lots of cork gaskets in my past life as a tech, I found that if I put sealer on them they would tend to "squeeze out" if I left them dry they would stay put but as you said you need to retighten several times, my boss once told me the gasket is the gasket, it needs nothing else, who knows, I put a sealant on some things and not others.... Thanks for all the nice Snapper tutorials.
I am definitley for the Permatex airfresheners and I cannot wait to get the old Snapper out and mow the lawn and The Lithium 12volt Motorcycle battery has proved its worth and has lasted almost 3 yrs even left in the cold
Interesting idea with the motorcycle battery. I’ll have to see what those sell for compared to the small Battery snapper has went to on the newer machines. Jim
Another great video Jim; With very very helpful content. As I like to say thank You so much for your help. I've been busy with some other projects, But 3 of the 4 Snappers are ready for another season of mowing; I still haven't started on the engine rebuild for the 1974 Comet yet or the refurbish of the entire unit, But the workshop has more room now to start on it; More on that later. Thank You again for a very helpful video SNAPPOUT.
Do you sell any of these snappers once in a while I get viewers I want to know if I have any for sale if you do, I could pass on the information in the next video. Jim
@@jimjackson9381 Hey Jim; Simply put I do not they are used for specific parts of the property. That way it's less wear, & tear on the equipment, & they last longer as long as maintain them, & I like having backup in case one goes down. Thanks though I'll keep You in mind if I ever do.
Sorry about that I meant to show the front of the envelope and I forgot all about it so I added it to the description section in the video. But the number is 7028762YP Thanks for watching and I hope you’re a subscriber that really helps and so does a thumbs up if you like the video Jim
I kinda replaced my snapper last season, with a zero turn 42", can't get it through one of my gates no real problem, I just use push mower to trim pool area. I was having a problem with trans/diff when pushing snapper backwards into shed, it would sometimes lock up, like chain was a problem. Would give me a heads up of a possible problem/solution? Please, and thanks for your time and videos.
I would stand the machine up and check the differential cover for any issues or slots cut through it then turn the clutch disc assembly with the machine in neutral and see if the tires turn while you’re turning the assembly. Let me know what you find out. Jim.
You can get one from me I have a source that has them. I’ll need your information, but I will need you to contact me through my email which is. jimsfixitshop@gmail.com You don’t want to put your address in this description area. Everybody can read it.
Well, there’s several places most of the stuff I buy from Parts Tree.Com My local Ace hardware Area snapper dealers that are still selling parts And sometimes Amazon I don’t buy much of anything from eBay because they don’t always sell you the correct part. If it looks good, they ship it to you. Thanks for watching.
@@gregoryvanek9038 well, I’ll tell you in February 2014 Russia invaded Ukraine and all of the US based companies pulled out of Russia except for Pepsi they stop selling Pepsi in Russia but Pepsi owns more companies and you can count and they’re all still selling products to Russia so I don’t buy any Pepsi or any of Pepsi‘s products from there sister companies.
