This video we’re going to assemble the differential and put the fenders on the rear case. And as always work safe have fun and I’ll talk to you soon. Jim.
That looks like the same 12 ton Harbor Freight hydraulic press I have! I was considering the 20 ton, but for the money?? That 12 ton has done everything I've ever needed.
I don’t have a hydraulic press, but I have had good results by using a 2”x1/2” IPS bell reducer with several combinations of flat washers and a 1/2” bolt through the whole assembly. It works to get the bearing out as well as back in. Those longer bearings makes it so that the outer rubber boot barely fits onto the fender.
Jim i put thread locker on the differential pinion bolts ,, but my concern is that there may have been a layer of oil or grease that may have made the thread locker not hold.. i guess we will see.
0:15 Can you even find those 8 pinion gears anymore? PartsTree lists them as NLA. It’s comforting to hear you say that we don’t really need them for normal mowing and that the 4 pinion gear will interchange without issues. Still, I’ve got one of those xtra tuff machines and dream about restoring it to the way it was.
