Mr.Sklar I know you are a number one bass player ,you do not get that smoothness over night ,just great pleasure to listen to you.You always talk about other people being great for me it's you that's great.
@@MelissaThompson432 Apologies, I reacted and wrote what a lot of people knew already. I really enjoy Leland's talks and background information, and his relaxed way of doing what he does.
The funny part is JT wanted to call the song "I Feel Fine," but there was already a Beatles song with that title; so he changed it, and then the Beatles ended up using his title.
A master class on "Colors" from pick ups and intonation. It's the instrument...but it's the player knowing his instrument and what they can get from it! All in just a minute. Brilliant!
What few have said here is what a great person Leland is in how he conveys, plays, tells stories about this and other songs and his experiences. You’re a wonderful guy, Leland and an any of us who have played backup in bands know that you’re as integral to the success and sound of a song as the lead. Thanks for being a backup treasure, a great teacher and calm, humble story teller.
This recording of this song played a big role in teaching me how to think about bass lines when it’s just an acoustic guitar. Seriously, this song is a semester course in and of itself
Keep the squeak! And there was someone yesterday on my comment asking me to leave a message on a number they posted. Not sure what they wanted to accomplish, but I ignored. Thanks for the visit today! Everyone stay safe and have a wonderful day
Yeah Linda I saw that same comment myself here also as one of my daily Joy's after listening to our good friend lee is to read alot of the comments and she posted the same comment as a reply to a few people's comments here just she changed some of the wording
got my 2nd shot today! On the 1 year anniversary of the WHO announcement. Now if only my orchestra would start playing again...one can only play along with youtube for so long. Thanks for making this whole mess a lot better, sir!
I think the beauty of this song and others of JT is they speak directly to people, myself included, this takes me to a very very special place in my head and heart. just beautiful. thank you Lee
My heart always gets gooey and my eyes swell up I took my dad to see JT every time he played in my area very sentimental RIP daddy miss you each and every day
God bless your heart, Tobi. Such an almost unbearable hurt when a loved one passes on, especially a parent or a child. It's a precious blessing that you have those memories. I hope that one day those memories wont trigger hurt, they'll just leave you with a smile on your face and peace in your heart. Rest in peace, Tobi's dad.
MY very very dearest Mr. Sklar you are just amazing I could not ever think of that song without the way you lock down the rhythm and play harmony to the vocal what makes you think like that your bass part is orchestral complementing all the music around it . I don't know if I should sell my bass burn it or practice more with all my love and respect I am flipping you the bird right now stay well my friend and thank you so very much for posting every day you always make my day better
First, at the beginning of the video when I saw the title, I thought it was the George Harrison song played by James Taylor. I like when you play the bass guitar in these videos. 👍🏻👏🏻🙏🏻
Happened to be at the pharmacy when they were trying to figure out what to do with extra vaccine they were stuck with because their computer system went down and they couldn't contact the people who had signed up. I raised my hand and ten minutes later I had Moderna #1 and #2 scheduled -- let's hear it for serendipity!
Best day in a long time! Talked with someone that I hope will be my girlfriend for the first time and it turned into a very long call and rounding of the night with a relaxing clip from you feels very good. Thanks for bringing the good feeling to us all Leland!
Yes, we here in Texas don’t have a statewide mandate anymore, but we are definitely keeping on with masks for most businesses, thankfully. Well, at least here in Austin. Happy I got my J&J vaccine today! Such a beautiful song. Thank you, Lee, as always. Take care everyone and stay diligent!
Hi Lee - Your California rains are going to turn into a blizzard over Denver this weekend. Big storm rolling in from the west this weekend. We all need the precipitation! Love this song - and a hearty congrats on reaching the hearts and souls of over 150,000 humans from all around this beautiful planet.
A simple, yet beautiful song from James. I couldn't imagine auditioning in front of those Liverpudlian fellas. With the pandemic still in the air, lots of Americans are spoiled. We need to follow through, yes it's been very difficult, but always resort to Common Sense and don't give up. We're closer than we've ever been to wiping this mess up. Stay Safe Everybody. Shout out to Maureen and the kids. Talk to you guys soon. Love ya folks. Doug
Great song indeed. Thanks. I got my first shot two days ago after a couple of weeks wearing out my iPad trying to get an appointment (I think my forefinger is a tad shorter now). Feels so good to be on the way to getting fully vaccinated. But it is so important for us all to stay vigilant and keep at mitigation practices for a little while longer yet. It will be so worth it.
I remember Robert Christgau very well from his years as music critic with the Village Voice. Back then I used to like that kind of writing. I remember when this second version of the song was released, and I never quite understood why James Taylor decided to do it, except, it seems, to get it in front of a wider audience of people who never bought or heard his Apple album. The original version and the sound of his voice at the time had a certain quality that can’t be replicated. And I also remember the first time I heard Harrison’s “Something in the Way She Moves” and saying to myself, “Hey, he ripped off James Taylor with that opening line.” I’ve never understood how that could happen without any copyright problem, unless Harrison asked James if it was alright. Maybe James was so flattered that he didn’t care.
As I've recently had the pickups on my Jazz bass replaced, I now realize how 'hybrid' are the pickups are on Frankenstein! I see 'Fender', look at the pickups and say, "wait, how'd those get there?" 😂
This is great! I, like every other 16 year old guitarist, tried to learn to play this in 1971. I could never get it right... even with the sheet music. Now I understand why. There is simply no way to capture that great bass harmony with a walking bass, while fingerpicking the chords. I would need alien hands. Thank You!
Hello. I love listening to your story's mostly of Phil Collins one of my favorite musicians of my high school and college Years also enjoy the other singers and listen to your guitar playing of bass you really taught me a lot thank you very much for sharing:-)
Great bass part that nicely anchors the tune. That bass is very acoustically rich sounding too. I couldn't help but think how much fun it would be if you did kind of a "Live from Daryl's House" live stream with different guests you've played with over the years..
Thank you, Lee! I just had to learn "Something In the Way She Moves" for a private party I have coming up this Sunday. You just taught it to me! It IS such a beautiful song. Thank you for doing these videos!
Nice James Taylor song..nice bass licks..i love that bass..the sound thev look..and thanks for responding to my questions about what sttings you use.Greatly appreciated.Be safe.ps Can't wait to hear you working with Julian Lennon.!!
I've loved that Greatest Hits re-recording of this tune for a long, long time, and I feel fine. (Still.) Thank you for revisiting a wonderful song with this bass accompaniment. It's the part of most songs I follow best, 'cos I have the approximate vocal range of a frog in a downspout, relying on resonance.
Your daily visits and James Taylor’s songs have a marvelous trait in common: sincerity. And having James covering the bass part really brings out your musical creativity-letting you “sing” harmony on Frankenstein. Congratulations on 150,000 subscribers! Well done. Stay safe and stay well!
Your videos are so inspiring and informative. As a mentioned to you at Allie's service, I played bass with Sha Na Na. I now have a U-Bass that I pick up every day and imagine, for a moment, that I can aspire to your excellence. Thank you.
Love this man, I’m always chilled after listening to him, regardless whether it’s him speaking, playing music, walking the dogs or wandering around his garden. What a lovely soul.
I love James Taylor and his songs. Now I know who laid / lays out these magic bass lines. Wow... Thank you so much for the music and for sharing these gems with us. BR, Per (Denmark)
One of my all time favorite JT songs @lelandsklar ! Such an iconic melody and track. Once again, it’s an honor to be able to be your friend and perform with you. #Respect ✊🏾
You’re such a good, kind person. Your videos are wonderful - entertaining & interesting! Keep on keepin’ on. We all love it! I’m finally on a list to get called to schedule an appointment for my 1st shot. It’s a start!
Everybody’s a critic. The piece you read reminded me of a scene in One Trick Pony wherein Steve Gadd is reading a review of the previous night’s show to the rest of the band (Paul Simon, Richard Tee, Tony Levin, Eric Gale) and they're all just shaking their heads. Eric: “What’s... ‘mellifluous?’” Steve: “I think it’s about the same as ‘bodacious.’”
Beautiful. Thank you so much for posting this. Your collaborations with James Taylor are written in stone in the golden book of 20th Century music. Bless you both.
I was looking at those Artist/VIP passes hanging on the wall. My guess is you have bunches of those things. It would be a good episode to show them off here on the channel.
Ever since I was a kid first listening to JT into my adulthood, I’ve always found his voice, music, and dry sense of humor a great comfort in this world.
Your sound is so satisfying to the soul. Thank you for sharing this. Love the tone, timing and listening. You clearly love the music and it is infectious.
My favorite (of many) Donovan lyric quotes (From Young Girl Blues) "The book you are reading is one man's opinion of moonlight." I have had many times that i have referred to that line and it's prescient philosophy. (OR - "everybody's a critic".) ;-)
Critics write reviews because they don't have the talent to do what they're reviewing themselves. The general rule with me regarding reviews, is that if the critics hate it, it must be great, so I buy it.
@gatekeeper65, Exactly. another version - those who can, do, those who can't, crticise. and I go by your rule of thumb if they dislike it or really hate it, then I'm interested especially for an artist I like
That is really nice. Fun to watch how you dissolve into it. That’s the mark of genius song from the heart. One of his bests ... and one of yours. ‘Nuff said.
One of my favorite JT songs. Enjoying your channel. I was also impressed to see that you played on the Cobham album Spectrum-especially Stratus. Groovy stuff!
Back in the day I was a bass player in NYC for almost thirty years. When the Village Voice was free everywhere Robert Christgau was the head music critic for it. If you DID NOT get slammed by him you were doing something wrong! He slammed every great recording and great show ever done. A good review from him was the kiss of death. The one you read about James Taylor was a perfect example. Do I have a bone to pick with him? Bet your ass I do.
obviously a universal trait for critics, when I've read crap reviews for a concerts I've loved I often wonder what show they were at. 'cause it certainly wasn't the one I attended. 😊
Hurrah!! Ride along Roger will ride again!! And soon. Have you ever been involved with Ry Cooder in any projects in the past? He did some stuff with an old bud of yours, David Lindley. Take good care sir.
Gee i love this song .i love the bass line! i know by heart if you wake me up late at night the bass line ,and also the bass line of Carolina in mind ,im not a bass player ,(am an acoustic guitar player ,.Your playing Lee is a SIGNATURE ,to these beautiful songs ,god bless you for that !! thank you!
Few Things - 1) Congrats on the 150k subscribers. 2) If the WD40 is silicone WD40 that would work - it worked on my bed (don't ask). 3) Thank You! Keep up the good work.
