LYRICS
Something In The Way She Moves by James Taylor
Well, there’s something in the way she moves
Or looks my way or calls my name
That seems to leave this troubled world behind
And if I’m feeling down and blue
Or troubled by some foolish game
She always seems to make me change my mind
I feel fine any time she’s around me now
She’s around me now almost all the time
If I’m well you can tell that she’s been with me now
She’s been with me now quite a long, long time
And I feel fine
Every now and then the things I lean on
They lose their meaning
And I find myself careening
Into places where I should never let me go, no
She has the power to go where
No one else can find me
And to silently remind me
Of the happiness and good times that I know
Well, I guess I just got to know then
It isn’t what she’s got to say
Or how she thinks or where she’s been
To me the words are nice the way they sound
I like to hear them best that way
Doesn’t much matter what they mean
She says them mostly just to calm me down
I feel fine any time that she’s around me now
She’s around me now I guess just about all the time
And if I’m well you can tell that she’s been with me now
She’s been with me now quite a long, long time
Yes, I feel fine

My mother loved Sweet Baby James and played his albums all the time as I grew up. She passed away three days ago and this song makes me feel so good. I know she’s with me and still making me feel at peace.

On May 29,2024 I saw JT is concert at the Hollywood Bowl. The concert started with a video of the very young JT starting to sing this song. About Every 15 secs JT aged a few years as he was singing this song. When the video finally arrived at the current JT age and look, Taylor stepped out on stage to finish the song with no distinction when the band started playing and the video stopped. What an intro to the concert!!! He played for two hours and just SLAYED it! I've been a JT fan since he made his intro into the music world in 1970 ( I was a sophomore in college). Go see JT before he stops touring.....you won't regret it!

These BBC recordings of James Taylor absolutely astonish me. It was such a complicated, divided, and conflicted time, and here comes this strung out, homeless heroin addict with the most honest, pure and virtuosic live performances ever recorded. And, in my opinion, no solo live performance has ever come close.

Who could not be inspired by such a beautiful expression of pure love. ❤ Every song he sings is straight from the heart & so comforting, whether he sings of heartbreak or joy, there always seems to be an assurity that all will be okay. From my 'bedsit years' in 1970 through the subsequent years when I started to find my feet, Sweet Baby James accompanied me through his music. And as I sit here in my 75th year, we still 'ride shotgun, free & easy'. James you good man, Long may you Ride. ❤😊🎉

🎉🎉🎉 beautiful ! Immediately connected in a deep way with JT's music starting with his first album which I heard and I was about 11 years old. I was a troubled young man even at that age and those feelings continued for years with me but James Taylor always made me feel better just to listen to his music. It's no secret that the man has his experience with troubles and isn't afraid to address them in his music and he also did not fail to help the young version of me deal with things better.🎉🎉🎉 I don't listen to him as often as I could but when I do I know his music is like medicine for my soul. Much love to him and everyone here who appreciates him also ! 😅🎉❤

This is the way to hear James Taylor. I went to Tanglewood and heard him with a really big band with multiple backup singers blah blah, but for me all that production obscured the beauty of his songs. The guy's a folky singer songwriter, as good as they get. In the concert he played rockers and blues tunes that were absurdly overly slick and wooden. He's not a rocker (to say the least( and he sure isn't a blues man. He's a folk singer. And a real good one

“Gone to Carolina in my Mind” - 1971 Fall in Chapel Hill JT played Carmichael Auditorium (then UNC’s basketball facility) - I got 2 tickets but my sister, a HS senior, adored James - so I gave girlfriend Patty one ticket & sister the other - an hour before showtime I snuck into Carmichael via adjacent Woolen Gym - a guy in the tunnel asked me why was I there? - I told him I was with the stage crew - unexpectedly he assigned me to carry some co-axle cable up to the spotlights - Minutes later I moved down to floor level and laid Patty & sis’s blanket front row - I put a song request list on the piano - the week before event Patty & Sis had a screen printed t-shirt made with “Sweet Baby James” on front (green field with yellow letters) - I took the wrapped shirt to the dressing room but was stopped so I asked security to deliver it - the outside doors opened and Patty & sis joined me at floor level - within 10 feet of JT’s virtuosity - he played his first set - took a brief intermission - then started playing again - after a few more songs Patty pokes me & points toward the entry way from dressing room - leaning against the wall wearing the t-shirt was Carly Simon! No shit! - can’t wait to return to Chapter Hill - Class of ‘74

I have been a fan of Mr. Taylor since the early '70's when I stole two of his albums from a friend's parent's record collection. All the writing was in Chinese, so I believe my friend's dad may have gotten them while in Vietnam. As much as I have enjoyed his later, more sophisticated albums, my favorites have always been his first 2 albums.......the stolen ones.
