The size of those components must present a challenge. Just the necessary tools to deal with something this large will weigh a lot, let alone the strength needed to use them! Interesting video, thanks, Rick.
I can swing 40” on my big lathe or just over 48 on my boring mill. I imagine you probably have access to bigger and closer but it’s available to use if you need it.😊
Looks like it's gonna take several thousand dollars' worth of babbit for one big end... that stuff is crazy expensive now. Hopefully you've got some old babbit stashed.. just need a little new to freshen it up.
About a decade ago I found the babbitt shop in a closed down steel mill and brought a lot of ingots home. So we have new babbitt as well as some big bearings that we can melt the babbitt out of to reuse.
