Having been offered speeds of 1-2Mb through the copper wires to the cottage, I had no option but to try 4G Broadband. This video shows some of the issues that I have faced particularly with O2 having become unreliable and the solution that I hope I have found with EE.

Useful comparison; thanks for sharing.

Interesting, I have used 3G/4G routers before and I wouldn't get one without ports for an external aerial. That is just a precaution for worse weather or supplier performance. Also with larger wi-fi aerials you can improve reception thro the house. I would use a sim from Smarty for £20 , as long as 3 works locally. The router I have found to be good is Teltonika about £190.

Hi thanks for that info. I'll maybe give smarty a try and I'll look into the Teltonika as well

@@NiroPensioner Smarty is also only a 1 month contract you can set to auto renew, or change plans or cancel any month.

@@NiroPensioner Yeah smarty are owned by and use the same network as 3, The only difference between them is Smarty's unlimited plans come with a FUP fair use policy where they may cancel (very unlikely they ever would) or throttle\depriortise your traffic speeds) 3 claim their unlimited is truly unlimited no speed caps, they do also have a FUP in their contract but the difference is they don't include what the fair data amount is considered to be. I never hit what ever 3's was when I was with them and when I tried smarty and exceeded their 600GB fair use they never cancelled my service and I never noticed any slow downs compared to 3, I know smarty kick you off 3's 5G service when you exceed the fair use as well, but since i'm in a 4G only area I never got that ether. Also why I didn't stay with Smarty before I switched to EE is because with Smarty compared to 3's Smarty uses what is called CG-Nat, EE is also a CG-Nat type as well but Smarty's behaved completely differently, with Smarty my ip address would change multiple times a minute, the only issue that gave me was with netmeter's site my speed test results wouldn't always save even though I was logged into my account, this was the only issue I had and the reason I was looking to record my results was to see what difference I may have from switching from 3 to Smarty since they are both owned my CK Hutcheson and both use the 3 network my results should be the same which they were for speed. The ever changing ip address every second of every day was a difference I didn't like. 3 is not a CG-Nat type but is also not a static ip address it will change when you reboot the router or reconnect to the 3 network if you suffer a link down. EE is a CG-Nat type but the ip address will behave the same as 3 where it'll change with every reconnect to their network, but the ip address is shared with other EE users. a CG-Nat type isn't something to be concerned with really, but it can have issues if your ever looking to play games online. The only issue it has give me is with my Nintendo switch, I game on my PC and haven't had any issues even when with Smarty. with Smarty and EE the Nat type on my switch could say i'm D meaning I can only play with my friends online if their nat type is A and my friend with a switch is nat type B.

@@NiroPensioner like Teltonika you should look at Mikrotiks LHG series satelite outdoor routers, I agree you should only ever get a 4G 5G router with external antenna ports. I do have antennas on the side of my house because I need them due to living in a no service area indoor or outdoor from any of the 4 providers. Thanks to the external antennas I do have a useable service now. which gets my 90Mbps down average and 10Mbps up with EE I didn't know about Mikrotiks LHG series outdoor router before doing my setup but I know it offers a higher gain of 18dbi compared to the 10.5dbi I get from my iskra antennas and it costs in around the same price for the setup I have now. Also an important note is there is no cable loss from the Mikrotiks antennas, Iskra are a very good company and provide the test charts for the signal gain of each of their antennas, BUT they do test the antenna's with a 2.5Meter cable, But you can only buy them with ether 5Meter or 10Meter cables. The longer the cable the lower gain is going to be due to cable loss. My Antenna's are the 10Meter version and I should've got the 5Meter since my best signal was much lower down just below the drain pipe of the first floor roof. If they offered 2.5Meters that probably would've still be more than enough in my case. Like I said I still went from No service to 1bar with great signal quailty of RSRQ -4.5 to -6.5. I still should've went with the Mikrotik LHG if I knew about it at the time. But external antennas do work even with a 10Meter cable.
