well, the teutons speak old high german from about a thousand years ago though, chances are the sentence structure was different back then. I mean most of what the units say are words that sound kinda similar to modern german and you can make the connection to what it could mean but the words are pretty different now. I'd love to get some information from the devs on how and where they found these words, probably a good question to ask Sandy Petersen

​@@4Hardy They units in the game don't speak Old High German at all. It's more like Middle High German (from 13. century at the earliest I would say) but even that is more of a jumbled mess than anything else. The worder order in most, if not all west-germanic languages used to be V2 (even in Old English), that is the same word order as modern German. So this sentence structure is unusual in OHG as well. Also, the sentence in actual OHG as it is written in the Hildebrandslay(Hildebrandslied) - would be more like "Dat skal ik', or 'Daz skal ihh'. I put two versions, because while the first is closer to the Hildebrandslay, it's debatable if that is actual Old "High" German, because of the apparent Saxon influence on it. The first version would be more "Old Low German", if you want. There were many different West Germanic language varietes spoken at the time, many of which could be considered "German" or "Teuton" from today's point of view. Saxon (not a "high" german dialect though), Frankish, Langobardic, Allemanic etc... I don't know if I can post links so I will just say if you're interested you can google "wiktionary sculan" (for the OHG word for "sollen") and "wikipedia hildebrandslied" (for a sample of what OHG looked like).

Lern english man. "Das ich soll" wird korrekt als "that I should" übersetzt, nicht "the I should" und es ergibt sehr wohl sinn. Genauso wie "I want to come with" ein vollständiger und korrekter Satz ist aber in der Schule so nicht beigebracht wird, da Schulbuch für english immer "I want to come with you" vorgibt. Gleichzeitig wird hier altertümliches deutsch verwendet, früher hat man anders geprochen. Z.B. "Die geilen Recken", sind nicht Reiter die total horny sind, sonden das "geil" steht für froh/glücklich. Genauso wie früher "toll" für Wahnsinn stand und nicht für "klasse/super", gibt es heute nur noch im Wort "Tollwut" in seiner alten Bedeutung.
