Short video from my flight from Elvington (ex RAF Elvington), an airfield with outstanding, 3000m long runway and currently a home of Yorkshire Air Museum. The Museum itself is outstanding with lots vintage planes to see and other activities. on that day I was making blind radio calls as the frequency was not manned. Runway itself is long and wide however be caution of ofter traffic like truck potentially crossing through as I experienced just before take off. Landing fee costs £25 and this includes entry to the museum (2023).
That day I arrived at Sandtoft (EGCF), a small private airfield 22m to the south of Elvington. gentle touch down on the runway 05 with around 12kts crosswind. Great and accommodating place with relatively short runway you would not want to overshoot (there is a bank just before threshold of runway 23). Landing fee cost £15, there is also a cafe open.

Good landing on narrow runway with a bit of crosswind. It looks like a good weather to fly to compare to what we have outside.

I like your new summary introduction feature. Hard to think of two airfields with such different features as Elvington and Sandtoft. O e huge that stands out in the middle of nothing and can be seen for miles, the other cunningly concealed on the edge of an an industrial estate and hard to spot even with Skydemom showing where it is 😅

Thats true, it wasn't east to spot the runway at the first place 😄😅

Phenomenal footage you've taken here. I'm lucky enough to live within a mile of Elvington, I flew at the airshows many years ago when it was known as the "Great Yorkshire Air show" Keep up the great work and have a lovely time doing so. Sincere regards buddy!

Thanks Hamad :) I always plan my route so then i know what to expect. The GPS track is also recorded so it is easy to go back to it. Do you fly? How did you find Elvington?

@@theflyingadventures As a PPL student I find it extra interesting to hear details of the approach configuration and choice and management of airspeed.
@theflyingadventures
@theflyingadventures Год назад
@@colinbartram3467 It all depends what plane you are flying to be honest. With crosswind landing just take it easy, don't fight with the plane. I usually adjust flaps to 20 degrees when crabbing down to the runway. You have got a few methods you can use. I think it is beneficial to explore all of them during training and remeber, if you are not sure just go around!
