4K Canterbury cathedral & city, England virtual walk 

I moved to Canterbury because I had a girlfriend there, made my best friend there, got my degree there, met and married my wife there and lived with her there before moving to Whitstable. I write this during the coronavirus 'lockdown' of 2020 having lost my wife a decade back and best friend last year and it is wonderful to be able see a City I love and virtually walk its memory-laden ways that I know so well. Thank you, whoever made this. Can you tell me the date that this was filmed, please?

I love Canterbury; such a charming little city that has managed to retain many of it’s medieval/ Tudor buildings. Of course the most important being the gorgeous medieval cathedral (such a shame it was partially covered - but beautiful nonetheless)! I must say that I also really enjoyed the boat tour (when I went), extremely picturesque, with ancient buildings, greenery and crystal clear water. Thank you for the fantastically filmed video (as always)!

This was Canterbury before the pandemic closed so many of the lovely shops shown. I was there recently and most of them hadn’t reopened. 😢

Thank you so much for this tour. I am fortunate, that as a guest University Lecturer, I have visited Canterbury many, many times. It is a beautiful city, the history, the gardens, the trees, the wildlife, fish in the River Stour, and if you are lucky, with a giant Pike gliding past ! On a personal note, after my wife was diagnosed with terminal cancer, Canterbury was the one place she wanted to see for a final time - she died two months later ! So, your video has deep meaning for me, more than you can imagine. As a final comment, and for anyone still to visit Canterbury, look out for the small, unobtrusive entryway to Greyfriars, off Stour Street. The remains of a Franciscan Priory, together with an acre of English meadow, it is a stunning place to visit, a place of calm ( and quite often ) solitude in the midst of a busy tourist city :) Don`t miss the ruins of the St Augustine Monastery, and St Martin`s Church - worth the walk !!

Walk through that ancient gateway and there before you is IMO, the finest building in the World. Sure there are some cathedrals that are more spectacular from the exterior but internally there is simply nothing else to match Canterbury. An absolutely extraordinary place and of course witness to a thousand years of history.

Nice little tour that. Im supprised you didnt include the castle though. Or greyfriars garden. The latter is my favourite spot as its just off the main highstreet and is a very chilled place to relax. It even has a wild medow garden just before the bridge

Hi, many thanks for this. It certainly brought back memories. I usually visit Canterbury from my home in Scotland yearly . During September of last year, I was able to visit it only for the day during a brief relaxation of lockdown travel restrictions. I recognize two of my favorite places in Canterbury, the Kashmir Indian Restaurant and the Dolphin pub! I subscribed to your channel, some time ago, after seeing your great Hastings video. Good luck to you all during these difficult times.

I heard that this Canterbury cathedral is from around 1350. Older than notre dame. It wasn't built by the catholics. It has some middle eastern "Turkish like motifs" inside and in some of the arches. The disciples of Jesus left Israel and moved up into turkey which at the time was Greece and near Constantinople, which later became the capital of the eastern orthodox church. Rome became the capital of the western Roman catholic church. So, this church is very late medieval early Renaissance probably built just after the black plague took it's toll on England. I like it in fact. The colors of the glass work with the red and blue, colors of natural organic chemicals found on the island. Lots of catholic glass has been upgraded with more modern glass but Canterbury glass looks original and Celtic in fact to me. I like the late medieval feel of the stone work, all the different types of stone used, the colors and textures, the wear from hundreds of years of use walking upon the stone. Canterbury may be older than London, early Monks moved up the Thames and stopped on the left probably before moving further upstream to found London. So, I never saw the inside before. That gate arch at the beginning looks very old to me. It's not Roman, remember original Jerusalem had gates and walls. After the Roman's destroyed Jerusalem in 70 ad everyone left ancient Israel and moved to Europe, through the black sea and up the Danube River and by ship through the strait of Gibraltar heading north and eventually making their way up the Thames River. It looks like it has been maintained very well and has not been burned or pillaged or fallen into ruins. Other structures built in the 700 to 900 have suffered fires and collapses. Fire is hard on stone. So, I am related to Llywelyn the Great and Last of 1282 here in the US. I'm upset with what has occurred over there to the original peoples of the UK and all of Europe as well.
