Hi 👋 please travel to Southern California and visit Anaheim I miss that place so much I used to live there Ball & Brookhurst st ♥️♥️♥️ you’re doing a great job thank you 🙏🏻 I have relatives in Houston. Love from Egypt
@@kazoo6186 doesn't mean it has any culture this city is dead no activation of the streets and corners. The planning and zoning director from 3 -4 decades ago did downtown a disservice
@@MultiLuner Understandable but the downtown is underutilized and unfortunately not maximized to its full potential. People need options. That is a ghost town and o sunshine. The tunnel effect is strong there.
I’m Brazilian American!! Been here since the 80’s don’t pay attention to the two it’s comments!! Just come visit!! It’s very diverse!! Lots to do!! And we also have a lot of Brazilian restaurants!!🤪🌸🌺🍀🌻🦋✌️🤙 and amazing Bar B que !’😎
You really need to explore the underground tunnels. Downtown Houston has 7 miles of underground tunnels and people always wonder "where are all the people" when they go to downtown.
Yup, you're absolutely correct. I've been in one of those downtown Houston about 3 years ago. Kinda cool with all the stores and shops and restaurants. I loved it.
after living in LA most of my life and joining the Airforce. My wife and I will probably move to Houston but more of Cinco ranch or league city or Galveston. Even downtown Houston is so clean compared to LA.
Imo Downtown Los Angeles and Houston are comparable in several ways but I must admit Houston has an extra welcoming (if not under appreciated ) edge to it overall. Thanks for the tour!
@@joe3009 Well, Phoenix has lots of trees that aren't native to the desert. That's why irrigation systems were invented so that they can survive in the desert.
As a Japanese guy I always dream about going to The United States. It's the place I wanna settle there in the future. If I have to choose a state I'm going for Minnesota, Minneapolis. I HOPE this dream gets true 😔🇯🇵🇺🇸
@@GrandGamesReviews oh that’s cool, Houston is a good place to live, i’d recommend moving there if you want to go to the US, houses there are also pretty cheap but I recommend taking action soon because they’re getting expensive
I went to live in Japan. I couldn’t wait to go live my dream and go to Japan. Once I got here, I missed Houston so much, it ached. Can’t wait to come back. I miss my city.
Over 7 miles of underground pedestrian tunnels that connect every building downtown. It looks lifeless above ground but underground you’ll find restaurants and stores.
I live here and this was shot on a Sunday, there is much more foot traffic and vehicles during the week. There is also a big long underground air conditioned tunnel below downtown with lots of shops and resturants so the street level is not as crouded as a lot of big cities.
Since I'm a Houstonian, to answer those that wonder why there are so few people on the streets, there are basically two reasons-one is that it's probably a Saturday or Sunday, and the other is that there is an extensive underground tunnel system that is air conditioned with plenty of shops and restaurants that connect different parts of downtown, so many people are walking down there during the week. I was stupid enough to move to this dirty European big city to live with my wife and the contrast is astounding. Here nothing gets painted, cleaned, grafitti is everywhere and nobody cares. Houston continues to beautify, renovate and make things more liveable, clean and esthetic. Downtown Houston even looks a lot better than it did when we were there last. God Bless Houston and the USA. I can't wait to go back to Houston, stay there and never look back
Saturday and Sunday is when you should see people out the most. This city was poorly zoned and developed from 4 decades ago. It is literally dead no activated streets or corners on the backside of buildings and brick walls where there should be storefronts
I've just come back from Fort Worth, Texas. I had a 3h long walk there around 15-18 o'clock on a working day and saw in total only 6 people walking around, and there is no extensive underground system there. So I guess it's rather because of your crazy car-culture and getting absolutely everywhere by car, and as a consequence - there is nothing interesting down there for a pedestrian. I loved the experience though! And I'm also curious what European city you're talking about, because not at all every European city is dirty (rather there are some dirty exceptions), and my European experience is the opposite of yours.
@@denislinnik Totally agree with you . As a city it is quite clean and nice but without people outside . Parks are mostly empty . Passive city life and almost no social activity
@@kapiljain7010 I born in Malaysia. Malaysia is the best. That I am not happy to be born in Hong Kong and China. And that I wanted to be born in United States Of America
Most beautiful downtown but at the same least populated one. I can tell you the reason, Houston unlike other cities is very huge and the population is extremely distributed. And moreover unlike other downtowns, Houston downtown is more of a business center rather a city center or tourist center or shopping mall & dining center. So you never find a crowd here unlike other cities like Boston, NY etc
I prefer distributed. But i did live downtown and it was fantastic, clean and quiet, especially after living in a one downtown center like Boston for 6 years, as well as others.
Alright this is getting tiresome. Downtown is the business district, and when it's hot people use the tunnel system under the city to avoid the heat. And there are restaurants in the tunnels. Downtown is NOT the entertainment district hence you dont see a shitload of people. There are more people living in the downtown area as they build more accommodations like in other large cities and they're now catching on. Most Texans want space and they dont want to live in downtown,it's the transplants that are behind the sudden growth in the business district. Most people who dont live here dont understand just how big Houston is. At its widest point it's 100 miles across. The city center only makes up a small part of that.
No one walking everyone expelling has into the air and getting zero exercise. As clean as it is, it is clean because no one walks. What kind of life is no walking
Did you notice the date? Its pretty busy during the day during normal times. This wasn't one of them. I lived in New York it's too busy and loud and violent.
No one hangs out in Downtown. There's nothing to do. If they continued following the bayou or visited the Museum District or Galleria, you'd have seen crowds. Both of these areas are close to Downtown. I live in Montrose and there are more murals and crowds of people. It takes me 10 minutes to walk to Downtown.
This was shot in June 2020, during the height of the pandemic, even NYC was like this, also summer time is really hot in houston, downtown has underground AC walkways, shops and restaurants which makes it easier to walk without going outside
hi im from England UK.... looking at Huston its a little empty with not much going on... UK cities are hustling and bustling busy with lots of people around
I like living in this metro area I like how the downtown is planned similar to nyc or Chicago with its architecture and use of modern buildings compared to other southern cities that use the generic southern garby architecture such as mobile or Jackson Houston is one of the few gems in the south
I know america only on films. So, I can not say much. I saw walking tour atalnta video, walking tour boston video, and now this town. Why the streets are almost empty of pedestrians. This is not fun. Where is community interaction. Despite some praising comments, i would think, boredom and loneliness must be rampant in america
Thanks for watching! Please do note that this video was taken during the height of the COVID Pandemic concurrent with George Floyd's nationwide protests. The weather could also be a factor. There's also an extensive underground tunnel system for pedestrian in Downtown Houston.
@NTL There weren't hardly any suburbs around Houston in the 70s' plus there was a oil bust because of Jimmy Carter, the 2nd worst president in history except for Biden. The thugs would come in from the east side and the southeast side and cause all sorts of crap but it ended in a few years. But as far as a major Democrat run city, it's the only one in the country so far that hasn't had major lootings and smash and grabs and burning down everything. The thugs went to the burbs, sent there by Lanier, and White and Brown and Turner, and all their sect 8 property ownings, now it's a free for all out there. Downtown is safe because of only that.
The park is very busy every Sunday and Saturday also there not really anything going on no sporting events or anything the big building to the right of the screen in the first couple minutes of the video is an amazing convention center but nothing is going because of covid
@@noahbattistelli9931 Last fall I was in Miami and there it was a bit similar. There were often hardly any people at the airport bus and MetroRail station. In Europe usually there are more people in that kind of a place.
@Lova Sampson We are truly spoiled in Houston. You never know that until you leave Houston. That or Houston doesn’t have what you’re looking for. Other than that, there is a LOT to do in Houston.
@Timothy Ray. Klide Boy gtf outta here its probably nothing to do for you because what you call fun may not be our definition of fun And you probably don't have to many friends here to do anything with Anyway🤷♂️😂 So what would you expect TF🤣👀
I work in downtown Houston. Not enough drug addicts trying to follow you to where you work or grabbing at you. Downtown Houston is beautiful but don’t walk alone even in daylight.
I've lived in Houston most of my life. I grew up in a. small town North of Beaumont, TX. My extended family always had connections in Houston, so H Town has always been a 2nd home. For the last 35 or so years it has been my main home. Is there racism in Houston? Yes it exists, but no more than any other place. Racism is everywhere. Classism is the same way. They have economic segregation, and gentrification as well. I believe Jesus is coming back soon. For the record I am African American. I worked for a DMV type office for many years. People are pouring into this place from all over the place, especially Southern California. The oil, gas as petrochemical industries bring in educated foreigners from everywhere, like those from the 10 40 window. If you can deal with the floods, heat/humidity and mosquitos then come on down. Crime, such as violence, homicides has been increasing. I mostly stay home, or I visit nice areas. Don't let your guard down. You can easily get jacked here. But again, that is true anywhere. I am recently retired. I should take my go pro & make videos of my own. I like this video, by the way. Peace.
Houston is a very beautiful city.I had been in Houston for 5 months and I and my wife had stayed with my daughter who has settled in Houston with her family.(from Kerala).
I love the zoning in Houston because there is no zoning. I rented an apartment once that was right next door to a famous strip club so coming home at night after work was always fun, a real experience!
When I heard this city got destroyed by that hurricane I was shocked. To think that all this is gone now. Can anybody from Houston confirm if any of the city still stands? Are there still a few buildings left in downtown?
I'm not sure if this is a troll, but I'll bite haha. Yes everything is still there. The hurricane happened in 2017 and this video was posted last year, so it's accurate.
People for the most part don't live or walk around downtown Houston. You get in your car, drive downtown and park in a garage and go inside whatever building you work in or place you are visiting. Not much reason to walk around. Everything is spread too far apart. There are some bars and restaurants on Main Street you will see crowds at night on the weekends. Rice building you show used fo be The Rice Hotel. John F. Kennedy spent the night there before going to Dallas the next day where he was assassinated.
They should do a Lone Star game also with features from San Antonio, Austin, Ft Worth, West Texas, Gulf Coast, Piney Woods, etc. So much content could be put in it.
@@JEdwardBanasikJr and the new high speed rail that they are building between Houston-Dallas would make traveling easy between both cities in real life lol like less than 2 hours
Thanking you very much for all your efforts until now in present and in future that we may to enjoying in your magnificent videos of the beautiful USA ONE WORLD ONE PLANET FOR THE RIGHT ONE!- ED
Man, I sure do love the fact that the streets are so clean in this richer neighborhood and area. I bet the city spends just as much time assisting the poorer areas as it does this place! Right?
There’s a huge blind spot to the fact that if you make those poor areas look nice. They will soar to expensive prices and only the rich will live there. Many groups have protested projects cause they will push out minority residents. The sad part is if the city spends a lot on a poor area, the poor will be pushed out by the rich someplace else and the cycle endlessly continues
This area is an extremely short walk to the Greyhound station and all that. I'm used to walking through some "unsavory" places, but that's definitely a good place to get shot or mugged.
@@alopez1974plz Hush! Bcuz Miami isn’t all south beach and L.A. isn’t all Hollywood && NYC isn’t all Times Square every city has both it’s good&& bad!!!
Believe it or not, there used to be an airplane service that took you from Clear Lake into downtown Houston. I have no idea where the spot was that dropped folks off. They got rid of it years ago.
When I lived in Downtown Houston in 2015 I think somebody told me the total resident population was only 8,000 residents. I'm sure it's more now but this is very typical of DT surface level, eerily vacant of pedestrians traffic. The underground is a bit more hussle and bussle but it's closed on the weekends.
