A couple of weeks ago I had the opportunity to take and film a senior Southwest Airlines Captain’s retirement flight. And I’m excited to be able to share it with you now! Captain O’Neil, after serving his country for 11 years in the United States Air Force, was hired by Southwest Airlines where he spent the next 31 years accumulating over 15,000 hours of flight time. He spent 17 of those 31 years as Southwest’s chief Phoenix based pilot, where he helped train, oversee, and guide every other Phoenix based pilot throughout that time. On March 12th, Captain O’Neil operated his final flight by flying a plane full of family, friends, and passengers from Long Beach, California to Phoenix, Arizona. I was honored to be on that flight, and to be allowed to film the entire thing to share with all of you. I hope you enjoy this very special flight and I have more special Southwest flights coming up soon!

I think the first time I wore them was for the Imua One introduction in Long Beach. So, I've had them for awhile, but I only wear them when I take special flights on Southwest. Otherwise I still just wear my regular black Converse haha. If you see the Southwest shoes, you know it's a special flight haha.

Great video, and may Captain O'Neil enjoy his time as a retiree! One note about the 737 and this video: I absolutely LOVE the flap sounds on this aircraft, and it was a shame you didn't get the seat next to them. Aside from this minor issue, great video. Thanks! - Elevators, Trains, And More
@sla31
@sla31 4 месяца назад
Well the good news is that I have tons of flights where the flap motors are audible. In this case I felt it was better to sit closer to the front because I figured they'd do some speeches and stuff that would be easier to hear and see form up front. Thanks for watching my friend!

I want to fly on a MAX but I bet the one time I do decide to get on one, something will go wrong. I’d rather not take my chances 😂 besides with the amazing videos you put out, I don’t need to lol Thank you for your service Captain O’Neil 💕💕
@sla31
@sla31 4 месяца назад
As someone who has flown the Max nearly 100 times now, you’ll be fine. The actual percentage chance of being involved in any aviation incident is microscopic. There was a recent graph put out those shows that both Embraer and Airbus aircraft have been involved in more incidents in the last 6 months than Boeing. You just only hear about the Boeing incidents because that’s how the media works. Don’t let the media scare you into not flying them 😁. But none of that should stop you from watching haha. I’m glad you enjoy them my friend! Thanks for watching!

I did know this was happening ahead of time. I am very fortunate to have a great relationship with many people at Southwest and they knew that this was something I wanted to feature at some point. So, once they found someone who was willing to have their life shown on YT, they let me know when and where its as happening.

First and a great fly! Have you heard FAA is investigating after two Delta aircraft clips each other at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport?
@sla31
@sla31 4 месяца назад
No I haven't heard that, but again, as we've discussed recently... This is not unusual. The FAA is always going to look into incidents like this. We're just hearing about them more right now because of everything that's happening in the last few weeks. In fact, I'm surprised it was reported at all in the media given their recent fascination with focusing on United haha.

But but the media keeps telling me this is a death trap and it's just soooo dangerous. How are you still here uploading all these amazing videos? SN Are you going to the Flight Sim Expo in Vegas this year? (I don't even know if you're into simming as you do the real thing all the time LOL)
@sla31
@sla31 4 месяца назад
I do enjoy flight sims, but sadly I really don't have time to put towards it anymore. I have a decent X-Plane 11 setup, but it's been months since I even did anything with it. So no I don't plan to attend the Flight Sim Expo in Vegas this year. And it's crazy right? I've been on the Max 8 and 9 nearly 100 times now. With the way the media reports on things, I should've certainly been involved in some incident... Of course, you and I know that the media likes to... Exaggerate things... The Max had a major problem with its MCAS system, but that was fixed. And the QC issues at Boeing, although troubling, are also being examined with a microscope now. And frankly, the fact that the Max 9 had an entire door plug blow out and the aircraft landed safely is a huge testament to the overall structural integrity of the plane. Not so many decades ago and an explosive decompression like that would've been much worse. So for anyone reading this, as someone who has nearly 100 flights on Maxes now, and as someone who was the only person in the country to fly on all 4 US Max operators inaugural flights post grounding. I have zero hesitation when boarding a Max and I will continue to fly them without prejudice.
@xox_nevaeh
@xox_nevaeh 4 месяца назад
@@sla31i completely agree with you. many people have hesitation when boarding the max but how would it be in service if boeing didnt perform years-worth of fixing and tidying to the aircraft? people have to understand that it takes a lot for an aircraft to be certified. and to this day, the 737 MAX 8 is in my top 3 favorite aircraft.

For a moment, i thought the 737 max you were flying on was going to be retired. LOL
@sla31
@sla31 4 месяца назад
Haha, nope. If fact you have a remarkable contrast here. Captain O'Neil is retiring after 31 years, and the Max 8 he flew for his last flight was only a couple months old. And I even wanted to kind of showcase that a bit with the closing shot. Captain O'Neil on the ramp getting hugs and congratulations on a great career from friends and family, then panning back to the plane, that is already being serviced for it's next flight.
