Tulsa, Oklahoma: Tulsa, Oklahoma, the second largest city in Oklahoma and the 48th most populous city in the United States. Incorporated in 1899 with a population of only 1,300, today the city boasts an impressive 1 million residents that live inside its metro area. Tulsa has a rich history spanning multiple avenues including those involving Native American history, oil and petroleum production, and America's famous "mother road" Route 66. Tulsa was originally settled between 1828 and 1836 by the Lochapoka Band of Creek Native American tribe and the area where Tulsa now exists is considered Indian Territory and most of Tulsa is still part of the territory of the Muscogee Nation today. The Muscogee Nation originally established a small settlement under the Creek Council Oak Tree at the present-day intersection of Cheyenne Avenue and 18th Street. They named their new settlement Tallasi, meaning "old town" in Creek, which later became "Tulsa." Once known as the "Oil Capital of the World," today that remains as a nickname only. Although oil and petroleum still play a large roll in Tulsa's economy, the city is no longer the driving force behind worldwide oil production as it was over 100 years ago. Tulsa is also world famous for having an impressive amount of art deco architecture that goes toe to toe with the largest cities in the country, a thriving arts and culinary scene, and a rich history of music that inspired a genre named after the city and so much more. There’s just no place quite like T-Town. Tulsa is also often refered to as "The Capital of Route 66," "Birthplace of Route 66," or "The Mother of the Mother Road." In 1925, Tulsa businessman Cyrus Avery, known as the "Father of Route 66," began his campaign to create a road linking Chicago to Los Angeles by establishing the U.S. Highway 66 Association in Tulsa, earning the city its first nickname as the "Capital of Route 66". Once completed, U.S. Route 66 took an important role in Tulsa's development as the city served as a popular rest stop for travelers, who were greeted by Route 66 icons such as the Meadow Gold Sign and the Blue Whale of Catoosa (both shown in this video). Geographically, Tulsa is located in the northeastern corner of Oklahoma between the edge of the Great Plains & Oklahoma City, and the foot of the Ozarks & Joplin, Missouri. In a generally forested region of rolling hills. Tulsa serves as a gateway to "Green Country", a popular and official designation for northeast Oklahoma that stems from the region's green vegetation and relatively large number of hills and lakes compared to central and western areas of Oklahoma. With that all said, I invite you to sit back, relax, and enjoy 35 minutes of peaceful, relaxing shots, as we travel to, from, and throughout, Tulsa, Oklahoma! Great Travel Series and first! So according to Google Maps, I have to pay toll to/from Tulsa via Muskogee Turnpike. That's no problem because I have PikePass Portable (can move to different vehicles) unlike yours where you have the sticker. I'm definitely going to visit that bridge with Route 66 sign attached to it from your last community post during the Labor Day weekend.

I just finished watching The Towering Inferno and now, I'm watching your guided tour of Tulsa. Back in March 1980, I was at the Sears Skydeck (Willis Tower), and I chatted with one of the employees and we talked about The Towering Inferno. She said that all employees there were required to watch that movie to see how people would behave in that kind of situation. Hard to believe that that movie is now 50 years old. Anyhow, Thank you for the tour of Tulsa. This is a city that I know very little about. I haven't been anywhere in that part of the US. The closest I've been is Springfield, MO. I've never been to OK at all so that whole area is Terra Incongnito for me, a foreign land. Next time, you'll have to do a video visiting the Pioneer Woman's Ranch and Ree Drummond's kitchen. Anyhow, one of these days, you're going to need to go on State Hwy 20 going from Newport, WA over to Anacortes. When you get to the Okanagan River, this is where the very western edge of the Rockies meet the very eastern edge of the Cascades. Each side looks distinctly different from the other. It's fascinating to see. And you'll LOVE North Cascades NP. Those are some of the most rugged peaks in the entire Continental US. They're also WAY more snow covered than the rest of the 48 states. The glaciers are bigger there too. And you could do a tour of Anacortes. Or Friday Harbor. Or Eastsound on Orcas Island and while you're there, head to the top of Mt. Constitution. Anyhow, if you ever find yourself in a 100 plus storey skyscraper attending a big party on the top floor and a fire breaks out, don't do what a lot of the people in The Towering Inferno did. And hope that Paul Newman and Steve McQueen are there to figure out how to rescue you.

I like how you got close to the Steam Locomotive at 15:29! Steam trains deserve to be in a good/operating condition and not a rusty, bad condition. I prefer steam trains over diesel/electric. Those locomotives have a unique charm, the whistle, the bell, the steam hissing across the track, and the whoosh! When the brakes are applied. Man, i could just listen to those all day….

If only the interior had been open on the day I was there haha. If I remember correctly, I'm pretty sure my wife and daughter ended up having Covid not long after I filmed this. I think that definitely helped lead to the quietness of this video, but I also think I was downtown on a weekend which also explains a lot.

Yup, civil at leasts. For anyone readying this and wanting more info, American Airlines' worldwide maintenance headquarters is located on over 300 acres of land at Tulsa International Airport. They have facilities for engine overhauls, as well as heavy C and D maintenance checks for the 737's and 777/787 fleets. They also take delivery of new aircraft at the facility as well. The largest civil aircraft maintenance faculty in the world.

Hey Traveler. It's Fall Foliage in September ??? Pretty. When it Absolutely, Positively, Has to be there Overnight !!! The colors are so beautiful on the trees. Here in Downtown Montreal, where I live, almost all of the trees turn yellow. Very few reds, just a handful here and there. Get your Kicks on Route 66 !! If you had the choice to be in the Locomotive or the Caboose, where you rather ride? I'd rather ride in the Caboose. it would be the last car to run off the rails in case of accidents. Oh Boy, I'd love me some diner food right about now !! It's almost dinner time here !! There is one thing conspicuously absent from all those pretty buildings, TAGGING all over the walls. They are blessedly clean of that scourge. Was that an American Airlines MD-80 ?? Hey from the sticker, you're supposed to fade to sneakers in your seat !! "If you are connecting to another airline, well, you made your choice, Good Luck !!"
@sla31
@sla31 Месяц назад
Yup, around here we typically start to get fall weather towards the middle of September. By the middle of October we've had our first hard freeze. It's not unusual at all for it to be below freezing on Halloween when the kids are all out and about. Then my March things are starting to green up again. By April everything's fully back to green. As for the locomotive or caboose, I'd have to say locomotive. I'm too intrigued by that kind of thing to sit back in the caboose haha. And yes, that's one of American's old MD-80's on display as a static display at the Tulsa Air & Space Museum. Unfortunately, it wasn't open for inside tours on the day I was there.
