I love both cities. Santiago is a lot more organized and relaxed. The traffic in Santiago is organized and a lot safer than Santo Domingo. For tourist Santo Domingo has a lot more to offer but I am never disappointed in either city. They are both wonderful places to visit. 😎
I’ve been to both cities and I think each city offer its own unique vibe. If you’re looking for that big city vibe with great restaurants, malls, nightlife experience, then Santo Domingo won’t disappoint. Conversely, Santiago is more laidback and has a more tranquil vibe. Santiago doesn’t disappoint in the entertainment and restaurant category, but it’s just a more relaxing environment.
I've never been to Santo Domingo, but if there ever be a need to choose between those two then it's gonna be Santiago .. just because I've been there, liked what I saw, and some of my good friends still live there. Actually it's a bit of shame .. you have such a good channel, informative and enjoyable to follow, but still so little audience .. I sincerely hope these numbers will increase by time significantly .. until then, I wish you enthusiasm and perseverance to continue .. it was a very good comparison! 👍✌
Well I Prefer Santiago offers less pollution, better quality of life, and higher life expectancy, plus it's less humid. While Santo Domingo is nice, it feels too chaotic for long-term living. For me, Santiago is the cleanest, safest place with so much to admire.
@@PurelyWalking its called why you should visit this small city in dominican republic. It did 172k views. By the way, Im not trying to promote on your channel so no disrespect. Just info for you to check out
I'm from Santo Domingo and my Mother is from Santiago and I love Santiago because majority of my family are from Santiago. Santo Domingo is not only the Capital of DR, Santo Domingo is the first city in America and the historical value not only going on top of Santiago, from Santo Domingo Nicolas de Ovando was governing the island San Juan Bautista "Puerto Rico" and Cuba. Nobody can compare Santo Domingo de Guzman with any city in America, that is the main reason the people with knowledge want to know where everything started in America. Obviously Santiago is more residential than Santo Domingo and everything will continue changing because the population continue growing in Santiago.
well, I'm rooting for the city that is less than 1 million people and we produce 20% of the country's GDP. the cleanest city safest wow, so much to say
I prefer Santo Domingo, there is more diversity and it is more developed, although Santiago is very good, you have to give him his respect, but most events are held in Santo Domingo and that is where I have the most opportunities.
Santo Domingo is much better than Santiago. Santo Domingo is the economic and commercial center of the Dominican Republic. More advanced and has everything because it is the capital. Santiago is a very expensive major province and contributes 20% to the economy while Santo Domingo contributes 32%. What they should do is connect Santiago to Santo Domingo to increase economic dynamism.
Amooor... Once again, Gracias!!!!Te dire, the last time i visited Santo Domingo was when i was 12 years old back in 2014. I heard that it has changed a whole lot. I've never been in Santiago, the closest I've been to Santiago has been Constanza. So, I can't give my opinion about neither cities. HOWEVER, I'm visiting DR in December for a Quinceañera, i will make sure, I visit both cities..... I CAN'T WAIT!!!!
The homicide and vehicular accidents rates are far from comparable from DN and Santiago , for the simple fact of ratio and percentage , way less people live in Santiago , a little bit more then half of the amount that live in SD and they have more murders same as the car accidents they have way less cars and more accidents so the percentage is way higher in Santiago then in SD DN. So seems like Santiago way more dangerous. Love both cities though
My mom is from Santo Domingo but her pops (my grandpa) is from Santiago. Everytime I visit DR I go to his place because i just like it there more. It's more of a country side. You got the chickens and the grass and social interactions and good food and my Grandad has a donkey that he's had for over a decade and idk how lil bud is still alive lol. I'm half Puerto Rican too and my Puerto Rican side is all jibaro de los montes so I guess I'm a countryside gal eh? My mom hates the countryside lmfao. Ain't nothing wrong with organic milk and eggs.
I rather Santiago city and the province because of its low crime rate and strong middle class. Unlike SD the ppl in STI are much more friendly and hate high crime rate .
Nice video. I’m new to DR culture but I know Dominican people. Good people. I will go to dr Sosua and Santiago and Santo Domingo all in my trip. Hell yeah. I’m eating Dominican food now he got me right for 15 payneen and oxtails with a orange Sunkist can. Bendencion. I learned that today ✌🏾
Im happy of just seeing the growth of my island , I have to say I’m form el cibaooo but as business person my first investment was in la capital😂 but Santiago will be next, For sure . keep up the good work you have a new subscriber
I am an American 🇺🇸 born and raised, but of Dominican extraction. Culturally I identify most with my mother’s province of Puerto Plata, which identifies more with the Cibao region, which is where the city of Santiago is situated. That said,my dad was born and raised in the city of Santo Domingo, and which shares a different sub culture which my dad proudly embraced almost to a fault. That said, the advantage goes to Santo Domingo from a strictly structural and cosmopolitan standpoint to me and nothing more. That said nothing beats the the warmth, hospitality, and people of “EL CIBAO”. Unquote. And for Dominicans, this is saying a whole lot.
Is Santiago (i.e. Los Alamos) a good starting place for a first time visitor to the DR compared to Puerto Plata or Santo Domingo (Piantini)? Is Santiago less prone to hurricanes? How's the climate compared to Puerto Plata or Santo Domingo??
There is no best , it’s like saying who has the most beautiful women 🤷🏾! They both are wonderful places to live and visit , but I’m going to be living in Santo Domingo really soon
La primera persona que sale en este video (2:16) es un extranjero, quizas indocumentado. Eso es muy significativo y refleja el gran problema que tenemos.
Why do some expats in the beach cities have a negative view of Santiago at least for foreigners? Are there neighborhoods in Santiago close to amenities and conveniences for people without cars, especially older retired expats?
Great content and thumbs up but a little too much music so I had to speed it up to 1.5 or 1.75. never been to Santiago but perhaps that's the place I need to start looking because I'm trying to move to the island
Santo Domingo by far. SD is the financial district of the country. Best city for entrepreneurs and to investors. Most of the industries are located over there. Santo Domingo is more modern and there are more things to do as well.
@Manny_4u Yeah you're right. Both cities shelter slum. Most of those slums in SD are populated by countryman of other provinces who got there looking for oportunities in 70s-80s decade. But it doensnt matter we all are dominican.
@Manny_4u Obviouly! 42% of the vehicle fleet of the country is located in SD... Heavy traffic doenst make a city less attractive than other... Los Angeles, Miami, NYC, Bogota, Lima and all those big cities have heavy traffic. I hope Santiago doesnt become in a heavy traffic city. you know why? beacuse streets over there are very narrow. so remember in SD are been built subway L2C, L3 (soon), bus station, bike system...
Less pollution in Santiago, more quality of life and better life expectancy in my opinion, plus it is not humid. Santo Domingo is nice, but for me personally is too chaotic for long term living.
Both cities have their I don't know what I know what to fall in love with. God bless and make not only one or the other but the entire DR prosper, but I prefer Santiago, it is safer and it improves its goods and services every day.
📛Santiago is no longer a shadow of what it was 20 years ago it was paradise. But strange beings have arrived. many from the neighboring country to break down the city. no offense but it's true.
Great video! This gave me a good overview of Santiago. I have not been there yet. So I suppose, for now, I am #teamStoDgo though I can't stand the traffic.
@Manny_4u I'm humbled, my mom was born and raised Santiagueña, so I have no ill feelings, but will say is not a fare comparison, who wants to live in a crowded city? The capital due to her nature ( businesses, central government operations etc) attract a wide migration for different reasons, so to me it's comparing apples and oranges, but overall Purely Walking is an awesome channel because of its content, I'll recommend it, keep up the job 😍👏🏽
I’m curious to know why you put this younger white person for Santiago and an older black person for Santo Domingo. I know there are racial makeup majority and minority in both but the picture you are depicting is very interesting for the common person who has never been to DR. Have a good day
