Enjoy footage of the rotary snow plow running on the Donner Pass.
The last time these mammoth machines ran was in 2017, before that as 2011.
Today's purpose was to clean up the steep snow walls reaching over 11 feet in spots. These tall snow walls were encroaching on the 2 track keeping auto racks from running on that main and tying up the route.

@@michaeldorosz6446 Two SD70ACe's deliver 8,600 horsepower and 310,000 lbs of continuous tractive effort by 24 wheels driven by AC traction motors - nearly impossible to stall out. In contrast, four GP-38-2's bring 8,000 HP but only 218,800 lbs of TE to the rails, with easier-to-stall DC traction motors. Back in the day (1950's), the Southern Pacific pushed a steam-powered rotary and tender (but no F7B snail unit) using a single AC-12 Cab Forward locomotive, delivering 6,000 HP and 123,400 lbs of tractive effort on 16 drivers. Tragically, in Jan 1952, Cab Forward #4245 while attempting to rescue passenger train 101, the City of San Francisco, overturned when it hit a slide, killing engineer Holland Raymond. (Snowbound Streamliner, by Robert J Church.)

Actually it’s not just the aces I think, those other railcars behind the snow plows are B units. I’m sure those probably help too.

There is a narrow gauge road that has two built in the 1920`s and 30`s that use all steam mainly because no one builds them for that gauge.RU-vid has an example a from a few years back,that is imoressive!

I'm guessing that the F-Bs I see sandwiched between the rotaries and the locos are demotored and the prime movers used to power the rotary's blade?

That's what I've heard elsewhere, they likely still have their alternators and send the power to the Rotary. Still cool to hear those old EMD 567's chugging though!!
