Hi Gary, just subscribed... My car (Isuzu Trooper) slips when reaching 35 mph (not exact) and only when it is warm. Oil is ok, winter mode works ok, reverse works, etc. I let the gas pedal and reengages in gear (2nd gear?) only when speed goes down to 20-25 mph. If I put the lever in 3 it works how it should, but sometimes the rpms are too high (3000 at 40 mph, for example). I've being driving the car only locally on rural roads, since I can't get more speed than that. The problem showed for the first time when driving in 4wd Hi. I wasn't driving the car at the time. No Check Trans light. What can be going wrong? Clutches? Overdrive?
@@GaryFerraro when cold it reaches 55-60 mph like it should, and if I maintain the speed it will slip in overdrive once it starts to warm up. When temp is warm, it will slip in 4 gear or so it seems. Then, I put the lever in 3 to stop slipping, but I'm limited to a low speed unless I want to make the engine explode... It seems that 4th gear and overdrive slip.
And I don't know if in 3rd gear should have overdrive when the lever is in position 3? Because sometimes in 3rd gear the engine revs are high and sometimes are normal (with the lever in position 3)
@@GaryFerraro Definetly no slipping between 2nd and 3rd, only 4th and OD. Today I drove it again to confirm that. Since I never got any trans light on, can I discard solenoids as the cause fo slipping? Btw, many thanks for taking the time to answer my questions
I'm getting codes 4f81,4f92 and 4f97 on my 2008bmw550i. any ideas ? care goes back to park after put in drive or reverse. after pressing break down hard it goes to drive. slipping on 123 gears and get tans malfunction. able to get past that and drive on 456 with no issues on freeway. please help ?
Yes, after the pump is built, i use the TC that will be going into the car. The TC is a sealed unit, im hopping its ok since it was rebuilt, the original TC all you can do is check the hub where the bushing rides and i use snap ring pliers to check the sprag in the stator.
Hey Gary, awesome video. I also have trouble after a 4L30E rebuild and no really local help. Can I contact you for some help, I don't have facebook just email? Thanks.
Hi gary, I have one of these transmissions in a 1994 isuzu bighorn (trooper?) that intermittantly drops from drive to a false neutral always below 50km/h speed, if you put your foot down again it grabs again and works fine again. Also some times the torque converter doesnt lock up when traveling at 100km/h. Just wondering with your experience what you think I should be looking at with this one? Thanks for the videos, very informotive .
Hi, thanks for your reply, yes fluid level is correct and clean. it can drive fine for days and randomly does this driving 30-50km/h. I havnt owned the vehicle very long but has done this since I have owned it. I am a mechanic here in new zealand but dont have too much to do with the auto transmissions. The check transmission light does come on when it faults into false neutral so I should start by checking the fault code I guess.
when it go neutral, take your leg from pedal, push S button or put manual 3 if box gear up from 2 to 3, problem is B selenoid (2-3 selenoid) change A and B selenoid together. problem will be solved. lock up condition will be solved by rebuilding converter. dtc comes from that, box try to gear up 3 but selenoid dont work, if you push pedal for 2,59seconds and car not speed up, tcm recognize a problem and make a fault. dtc will be "gear ratio" you never see dtc about B selenoid only gear ratio
Hi Gary! I've got the same transmission model in my 98' Opel Omega 2.5 v6. I want to change the transmission fluid which is dark and sticky with a new fluid (Dexron 3) but some mechanics said me that if i change the fluid the transmission may brake after the change. Is this true? The transmission has no problem except a little shake while changing 1 to 2 and 2 to 3 .
if you still call them mechanic... what ever, as a omega specialist i advise 35k km (not mile) for little cities, 30k km for big cities (ankara istanbul izmir). push for 6lt change need a more time. dont forget changing filter. mobil 320 good choice for oil. and never look far away for your answers, turkish channels have omega trans oil change videos. try "opel omega türkiye" youtube channel.
@@omegapolat thank you for your answer. We already talked with you on the phone and you advised me too much. I'm following the opel omega club Turkey page on youtube and already watched the video about the transmission fluid change.
Hi, Gary. Thanks for the video. Is it necessary to wash off each part in the parts washer to get rid of any potential metal debris or is that overkill?
I dont do much performance work, but people that ive spoke to usually use the Alto Reds. Alto is the company that makes them, maybe google them to see if they have
same thing happened to my BMW318i trans. 3rd drum blew off at the snap ring. it is a weak design but such a clever manufacturing process to make these sheet metal drums. it seems to be common as it happened to my Mercedes A160 on 2nd. Europeans eh? but american transmission.
@@GaryFerraro 2000 but i sold it after spending a fortune on it now i have only the BMW to worry about. can you sell me spares. banner bushes spacers etc?
i rebuild hundreds of this trans (gm version - opel omega same with cadillac catera) only see one blewed 3rd drum and one time blewed 2nd drum. i think its because of a plastic bushing (there are 2 of them in trans) broke down, they couse harsh 2 or 3rd gear, if owner goes without bushing so long and gear up high revs, they blew. but i dont have proof.
@@omegapolat that sounds plausible because there were the remains of that plastic bush in the trans. i will do the modifications to the transmission detailed in a paper i found on the internet. it was a very good article. i have a plan to strengthen the drum around the snap ring area as well. but parts here in New Zealand are so expensive and 3 series BMWs are becoming less common now. i'm only doing it for a bit of fun.
@@bryangrimshaw5607 we make 280hp engine and use this trans with it. No any problem. Still a lot parts in eu. Old bmws rising now. But shipping your big problem. Good luck.
Surprise that someone would go through all the trouble and expense to fix a car that is 22 years old. The cost to rebuild that trans is probably more than what the car is worth.
