Well you helped me out brother. I have a whole donor truck and as soon as i pulled the yoke out of the t case on the 2500 i put a glove on it to protect it never looked at it. I was under the assumption it was bigger and wasn't compatible. I just went out there and pulled the glove off and what do you know, same thing smaller u joint. I was looking all over the Internet trying to find a conversion joint for using the 2500 shaft on the 10 bolt rear. (I'm not ready to swap axles yet the 10 bolt has 513 gears. I'm already hemorrhaging enough money just getting this 4l80 in there without swapping axles the truck has been sitting since 2012 when i blew up the Monster "HD 4L60E" after 5k miles... so i want to drive it and iron out the problems I'll have from it sitting before i deal with the problems troubleshooting the solid able swap Dana 60. I'm hoping doing one thing at a time will make it more tolerable) I'm thinking because the truck is lifted 9"my 1500 driveshaft should work fine since this one did on a stock height truck. Thank you! That was one of the bigger worries i was having.

This is great I’m doing a 4l80 swap on a ecsb truck so I’m hoping this will work with the 2 piece driveshaft setup Edit on 12/23/2023: I finally put the 4l80 in my extended cab and I don’t need to use one out of a 4x4 1500. Depending on what your 4l80 came out of you may need it but the carrier bearing mount holes are slotted so the carrier bearing can be move forward/ backwards to make it fit

@MohawkMotors
@MohawkMotors Год назад
Changing the engine from 4.3 to 6.0 will not make a difference if you're using factory mounts. The flywheel doesn't affect where the transmission is mounts in the truck. If you use factory mounts the rear machined surface of the engine will be in the same location as well so the transmission will be in the same place.

I have a 2003 Sierra work truck with a fleet side 6'8" long bed. I want to remove the 4L60E (23.5" length) transmission and replace it with the 4L80E (26.4") length transmission. The math seems to say I need a 32 spline yoke that slides into the rear of the 4L80E transmission that is shorter by approximately 2.9". My main issue is that I have not pulled the driveshaft off yet so I cannot share the yoke parameters currently on the truck. But I'm not really sure that would be very meaningful as the current 4L60E transmission is being replaced anyway.
@MohawkMotors
@MohawkMotors 28 дней назад
The 4l80 yoke has more slip/spline length than needed in most applications. Assuming you are stock ride height, and the yoke is not rusted or damaged, you can remove some length from the front of the spline/slip area (the part that goes into the transmission) to shorten it enough to work. The hazard of driveshaft being too long is it bottoming out in the transmission when your suspension travels, removing excess length from the front of the slip yoke, can achieve the same thing as shortening the driveshaft, as long as you still have adequate spline engagement on the output shaft, rule of thumb for spline engagement is 2.5xdiameter of shaft.

the output yoke for a 2wd 4l80 truck is not the same size, they use a 1350 yoke size which is wayyyy larger than the u joints they use in the 1500 series trucks. You can cut the 80e slip yoke to shorten it up, just try to keep it as cool as possible while you're cutting, and do a really good job of deburring the cut end so you don't get any gouging or rubbing that could cause a stress point in the output shaft.

what do you mean wobbling? the yoke is wobbling? The steering is loose? I wouldn't sand it down to make it fit, you're pretty much guaranteed to make it out of round and then you might get a vibration. The 447 u joint is a 1350 to 1344 u joint, too big like you said. I made a video on how to measure u-joint to identify their size. You'll need to measure your yoke, and measure the driveshaft, find out what size u-joints will fit each (google the measurements) , then find an adapter u-joint for those 2 sizes

I have a 95 Yukon 4x4. Would this method still apply?
@MohawkMotors
@MohawkMotors 2 года назад
Switching a 4x4 from 4l60 to 4l80 is a completely different process, you'll need to change the input shaft on the transfer case to match the larger output shaft of the transmission. You may need to find a different transmission to transfer case adapter as well. Plus the transmissions are different lengths so you may need to get the driveshafts lengthened/shortened as well as relocate the transmission crossmember. It's a substantially more involved project to change from 4l60 to 4l80 in a 4x4

Which transfer case are you using? Most of the new process transer cases, share the same 6 bolt mounting pattern. You should be just fine with a transmission to transfer case adapter from a 99 to 06 2500 series pickup.
