That plastic clip holds dirt and moisture that is why they get so bad in that area. All of the lines (Brake, Power Steering, Transmission) on vehicles should be Stainless Steel from the factory. Nobody should ever have to have these things changed unless they were in a bad accident......charge me the extra 100.00 from the start.

I have the same problem with my 2006. Just bought it and it's drippin like crazy over the a arm. Mines dripping from the fitting at the rubber line from what I can see. Video was a super big help bud. Thanx for posting
@mlubeskielectric

The upper is a pita! Pro tip - reach in from behind the transmission there is enough opening to get your arm in there, feel around for clip and pop it out. Just did mine and was watching your video hoping for an easier way to remove these lines without damaging them.

Did u do the bottom the same way he did or from the back of trans

I agree with you matt i just did my top one from the back of the trans. thank goodness for your comment or else i would have had to bring it into a shop or something. REACH BEHIND THE TRANSMISSION!!!!

The retainer clips are a pain in the butt at the transmission end. The easiest way that i found was to remove the fittings from the transmission housing, in stall the the clips and then reinstall the fittings, otherwise it was a futile effort with very tight limited area to work.
@jpete3027666
@jpete3027666 Год назад
Yeah I learned that when after installing the new lines there was a leak from each fitting because it is impossible to get the clips in properly. So I took the fittings out and installed the clips, which was so much easier. Put it all back together and no leaks.

Best way is taking out cross member jacking up trans then lowering it down enough to get your hand up there.Its tough but you can do it.A lot of extra work but I don’t know any other way.

Sand ate the galvanizing off the line and enabled it to rust. Sand will do it on the fuel lines also! Anyone that does off-roading needs to make sure to wash the undercarriage good after each trip.

Please explain how you got the transmission line back in? I’m working on the lower line. I’ve got the old line out and I’m working on getting the new one in. I can’t get it past the front diff. It gets hung on something every other way. I’ve even tried dropping the diff and still can’t get it through.

I have a 2000 silverado I have kept since 19 as a beater truck since I got my new one. I was convinced my rear main seal was leaking and was in the process of getting ready to sell it due to not wanting to dump that kind of time and money into it since I dont really need the truck anymore, just kept it as kind of an old beater truck. I decided to take a look at where the leak was. Turned out it was exactly this. Couple hours and i had them changed. It lives once again

I know it's an old post but if this helps someone...upper trans cooler line, made a pick out of a welding rod to pop the clip. Pull out the line. Replacement ( skinny arms help) Do not install the clip on trans. Push the line in the fitting while wiggling it. Once it's in put the clip on. Worked for me!
@coreyhollowell6645
@coreyhollowell6645 3 года назад
Being a pain in the ass for me can I put clip on first then push on? I'm having trouble putting clip on after
@andrewhunter5843
@andrewhunter5843 3 года назад
@@coreyhollowell6645 I tried that, but due to its location and the space you have to work with you can't (or I couldn't) get enough oomph behind it to press it on and snap the clip over the flange. I was able to get the line in without the clip by wiggling it for a few minutes until it bottomed and then after fiddling with the clip for a few minutes I was able to get it to snap into place. It wasn't the easiest repair but it can be done. Seriously if you have big forearms and larger hands it might be damn near impossible.

I have a leak and I'm going to undertake this nightmare tomorrow. I got down under the truck and saw where those lines went into the transmission and just shook my head. I got the lines off the radiator no problem today. I'm thinking about taking a reciprocating saw to the lines on the transmission end and cutting them off, if I can even get the blade up in there. Then I can maybe get a socket on those fittings and remove them instead of fiddling with those clips that you can't even get to. While I have the connectors off, I'll see about replacing the o-rings too (I don't intend on doing this job again.) Either way, I know it's going to be a frustrating day. Thanks for the video, sir!

They make a small plastic fitting to go inside the clip, then u just pop or pull it out. Done. I Kno sounds easy, it's not. Harbor freight sells the clips.

I'm going to be doing then on my 03' avalanche. My plan is to just pull the y pipe off. I'm currently having a new y pipe put on by professionals who have a car lift, and they know how to deal with the rusty down pipe bolts. Then, in a few months, I'll just pull the y pipe off and the side heat shield and replace them, and I will most likely replace the rear transmission mount too. My best suggestion from just looking at it, is to take the y pipe out so you have more room for the top one

I replaced these on my ‘05 2500. It has the 6l80e so I’m not sure it is better or worse than yours. I have to say it was one of the biggest pain in the ass things I’ve ever done on my vehicles. As frustrating as these things are to do it’s satisfying when you can do it yourself. Also not paying shop rates is almost always worth doing it yourself.

I have watched your videos and really have enjoyed them. I know this may be a simple question but have you replaced your rear bump stops on your Avalanche? If so how? I am having issues getting my new ones in.
@jtmoffroad
@jtmoffroad 5 лет назад
Thanks for checking out my vids! I haven’t replaced them but when I did the lift on the avalanche you have to cut a bit of length off the bumpstops. Mine came right off. No tools, just pulled the rubber bumpstop out, cut it, then pushed it back on. Not sure if that’s exactly how it’s supposed to be 🤷‍♂️ what kind of issues are you having?
@davidrentzel1888

@pepperorig

@@jtmoffroad They're quick connect when brand new but after years of road grime not so much. When it comes to those things I just cut the old line then use a socket wrench to remove the fitting then mess with those damn clips on the work bench.
@515moto
@515moto 3 года назад
@@pepperorig I just finished doing the lines in my Sierra 1500. I cut the top. and then just backed out the fitting as you said. Much simpler than fucking with the clip in a spot where you can't even get your hand into. I only did the top since my bottom was still in relatively good shape. My truck has the Aux cooler mounted to the front of the radiator. those fittings were rotted beyond reusing them. If I were to do this job again I get all four new fittings ahead of starting.

Because it's a P I T A if you do it for real and nobody has the guts or patientce to do it . That's why alot ov videos on yt are staged, parts loosened, and the like. It never comes out as easy as most show, and if it did we would forget what we did anyway. Just work at it, take your time and be patient. Patience does make it easier to get it done but that too is a learned habit.
