@Milwaukeetools please set this dude up with a FUEL m12 impact, and ratchet!!! Thanks brother for taking the time, I was nervous to tackle this, but after watching and performing my rebuild, thanks to you I now have my tow pig rolling solid again!!

The way I was taught to replace Teflon seals in the oilfield was to warm them up in a cup of hot water. Put a cup with about a half inch of water in the microwave for about a minute then put the seals in the cup for a minute. They will stretch really easy without really galling them up. To shrink them back down, we would wrap electrical tape wrong side out (so the sticky doesn’t get on the seals). Stretch the tape really tight as you wrap it around 5 or 6 times, and the stretch on the tape will compress the Teflon seal into the grove. Then set the part in the freezer overnight. Good to go.

Great job on the video! I would never take on a task like this. That is a lot of parts and a lot of room for error, makes an engine build seem like a piece of cake. The parts look heavy duty in this transmission, that is why I will be installing one of these in my 1970 Chevelle.

Awesome guy you are, I'd love to work with a guy like you, finding Techs that have real aptitude for mechanical is tuff, it takes more than a big toolbox this I've learned as a RV Master tech it's actually scary to me who all are out there doing work that is over thier head basicly only throwing parts at a repair not even understanding the inner operations of how it works so the repair fails soon after its done if not right away. Thanks for this video. I used it while doing a first time 4L80 rebuild. Along the way, I found a tip that can hep you at 1:44:18 when trying to install the large piston. I could not get it to seat using a feeler gauge. I used a similar item as you did on the Teflon seal compressors. I cut up a soda can into two pieces, cutting off the top and bottom from each so I had wide flat pieces of metal. I then placed one on each side under the lip seal and put the pieces together. Keeping tension on the top piece, I used a small screwdriver to push the lip seal into place in each of the two gaps. The piston went in with minimal effort. I used a small pair of pliers to pull the two can parts out. If you had a long enough piece of thin metal you would not have any gaps. The piston turned with a little effort so I know it was sitting in the housing properly.

Ya made it look so easy! I was wondering whether one might use that transmission assembly lube to hold the check balls in place while you're reinstalling the valve body

I need some advice. At about 1:50:00 you install the snap ring that is in front of the reverse band. I did this and had it pointed at 9 o'clock per the overhaul manual I have. The problem is my center section is out of alignment by maybe 1/16 of a inch. It is not back far enough, both the bolt hole and cooler seal are too far forward. I've retried it several times and using just the center section it still will not align. If I remove the snap ring and install it, then it is slightly too far back. The snap ring is in the first groove in front of the reverse band. My 4L80 is a 1997 2WD model I am converting to 4WD. Thanks for any help. EDIT- I had the wrong (too thick) snap ring in there. I used the thinner of the two and it aligned properly. I do wanna say, I dont know if you rebuild transmissions for a living, or if you did tons of research. Either way absolute awesome job on this, attention to detail amasses me. GM trained trans tech here, and not gonna lie, totally used your video as reference to get mine back together. (sat apart for 2 years) Most of the time we put SERTA units in, especially with a 4L80E. Most of the time the rebuild was more then a new unit.

The bottom plate on the forward drive drum and direct drum will be either "dished" or "wavy"

Thanks for a great video. i have a similar gearbox. That had a oil leak. and the oil pump has go bad.(The rest of the transmission looks fine). I have changed the oil pump. But the transmission don't work at all:( no power on the wheels and if i take of the cooling oil pipe from the gearbox it don't come any oil.seems like it have no oil pressure. The converter seems to be corecetly installed. Any idea what i should i do next?

I thought that "warped " steel is supposed to be wavy. Maybe it only applies to certain 4l60e transmissions? Iwas watching another video that showed one of the steels being wavy and he mentioned that its supposed to be. Maybe he is wrong? Lol. Got to take all this info with a grain of salt and do our own in depth research. Great video. Glad we have folks like yourself willing to give instructional video for us to learn.

Would that pressure switch on top of the valve body cause it to not shift into 4th gear? I've asked around and got answers from bad clutches to bad 3-4 shift solenoid to rear speed sensor. I was hoping it was the sensor because the speedo wasn't working right either but no such luck. A new sensor just made it worse. Wouldn't shift into 3rd after that.

I am searching for a complete rebuild kit for the 4l80e off my 1998 Chevy k3500 4x4. I am not sure if you recommended any vendor in the video as I haven't gotten through the entire 2 hours. It's been very informative and I've learned a lot so far. Taking notes as I pause it. Should I just buy a complete rebuild kit instead of trying to figure if a part is burned/scored etc. My 4l80e has 300k on it and I stopped driving it when it went into limp mode. Can't go faster than 50mph right now. I am gonna get that transgo kit, but as far as getting a rebuild kit I'm not sure which is a reputable vendor I can get stuff from online. Thanks!

The reason the boost valve would not come out is because you used a pry bar and not a puller on the pump.
