I have successfully rebuilt many engines from Toyota to Chevrolet and many others. But transmission have always been a nemesis of mine for some reason. Way back in the day, I helped with a 727 Torqueflight and that is the only transmission I have literally been into. R&R quite a few but that is different ballgame altogether. I am literally in awe of Richard's ability to remember where all these small parts go and what function they serve. Much respect for all professional transmission rebuilders that take care of the details like Richard!
I serviced my e450 this morning after watching someone else’s great video and then when done a Precision Transmission video showed at the top of my feed so I watched it. It was an early one with Richard not wearing gloves and I was cringing because I currently have a big cut on the tip of my thumb, so of course I wore gloves. Then his next video he wore black gloves, then his next was green gloves and first day with his new Milwaukee cordless. I need to get back to the garage and fill my tranny, but it’s been so comforting watching the pan debri in these videos, knowing that mine looked great - just 49,000 miles on my ‘04 Born Free RV.
Man I'm so glad I got my 87 Lincoln into your shop before you retired I am so happy with the results thanks again for all the work you've done on my transmission it's still working great👍
I do a lot of mobile mechanic work on all makes & models. I love watching your transmission tear-downs and learning from all your years of experience. I'm not comfortable going that far inside an automatic! People ask me if I can rebuild theirs and I say "no way, you really need a specialist for that." Thanks for handling these transmissions Richard & Teresa! You do top-notch work in a really challenging field.
I really would like to see the build video for that transmission with all the mods needed to make it shift correctly and tow well. I’m glad you both are healing and I like your new shop!
Big hello from the UK, find your work fascinating and your knowledge is endless. I am an engine man myself and avoid auto transmissions as they scare me 😊. Keep up the excellent work and super videos.👍👍👍
i'm a little disappointed youtube didn't recommend your new channel earlier given how often i watched the other one but better late than never, i'm here now or as you guys say: right back atcha! 😄
Richard, Teresa, I’m a long time fan from East Tennessee. I missed out on what has happened with thing earlier in the life of your business. Now you son is not around, so I figured something bad has happened within the family. I still hope that someday if I have a transmission problem, hope to get out to you all for the repair. Stay strong as I see you all are. God, will make things easier and better things will continue to happen your way. Ronnie
@@Failure_Is_An_Optionwhile they did assume that something went south in the family. Not one word in their statement was judgemental. In reality you are the one who assumed and passed judgement because of your disdain of religion. The funny thing is atheists in general get bent out of shape over another’s belief system. Whether you believe or not you shouldn’t get upset how another lives.
The biggest trouble disbelievers have is their philosophies often fail to provide enough hope during bad times ? Hence , " there are no disbelievers in a foxhole " ? See nihilism and Marxism .
Not brainer something went down in their family. Very similar to Mr. Rawlings channel " gas monkey garage" .His son Chase went Audi5 oh! so fast. Not rocket science his dad and aunt had to let him go and Mr Rawlings never acknowledged or mentioned his son getting let go. Fame, money does weird things to people, worse when it happens in the family.
Richard / Teresa it is a pleasure to watch you work Richard . What great knowledge you have an most genuinely work to share. I am so surprised that your subscribers are over a million. But no one wants to work on these bouuger bears. I sure would love to see and meet you in that beautiful shop. I pray the Lord.Jesus touches your body and returns you to good health and health and happiness..
Richard & Teresa are awesome at what they do. Still love the 4L60 uograde with the 3:43 gear swap ❤ get well my friends sending prayers for speedy recovery
Also reaching out from East Tennessee! Your family has been my number 1 resource for US domestic transmission information. I have learned so much for free, I just wish you all worked on Hondas/Acuras xD
This was THE most complicated auto trans (or trans of any type) I've seen to date . I must have missed others you have done on these . When a customer screams about the high cost of rebuilding one, just refer them to these videos . lol As always, the master done a fine job . Thanks Richard and Teresa . Ah, and Annie too . :)
Several shops are just doing trans swaps now. Cost of labor far exceeds the cost of a new/rebuilt unit. Dealerships in my area are now charging $225/hour for shop work. A 7 hour R&R has nearly $1600 in labor alone. Add to it the parts (with the obligatory 300%+ markup) and you're at over $5K in many cases, especially if you need planets, pumps, etc. My Tahoe is at a shop now (3 weeks and counting due to a mess up on their end), and they don't rebuild transfer cases any longer. They can buy one for
Yeah, it's been off the hook for a long time now . When I first started working for my dad, our labor rates were 12.00hr. lol There's never been a time I trusted anyone but myself or my dad to touch my rigs ... Well there is one, Richard . :) All most mechanics (oops, "techs") can't even trouble shoot anymore, do a proper tune up, do brakes, differentials or anything . And they get paid as they do . But it's the same in most jobs . There are a few mechanics out there that can, and they're all called "masters". Let's face it, we're done . lol @@WreckDiver99
wow , fantastic to see you and teresa again! missed your dead pan wisdom and techniques. so glad this popped up today.. best wishes for your new channel! back at you!
I just rediscovered your channel. I had wondered why you stopped posting and kept going back to see if i missed something. I watched all the teardowns even though i will never do one. Glad i just randomly found you again.
Been looking forward to another 4r100/e4od from yall. My 7.3 e4od slips a touch when shifting into overdrive so im planning on rebuilding it myself soon.
I have a 2000 F250 7.3 Powerstroke. It’s a low mileage (97k miles) cream puff. I think it has that transmission and watching this video is going to give me nightmares tonight.😱
Glad you are back…..somehow these videos are very satisfying. When I service my transmission I remember the things you’ve shown, common mistakes people make. Thank you and God Bless
You know, if something ever happens to you, there is a world on knowledge going with you that I doubt there is anyone person could ever have. You are amazing..... :)
I love your videos Richard... I love the Ford 427 engines and what transmission would go to that. The C6... Holman Moody would love to have you on their team...😊
Oh my God I can't believe I found this video. I am so damn excited to see you back online🎉 I missed it when you had to leave. I'm subscribed, looking forward to anything you can put online.
Towards the end the sound was cutting on and off. Wow that’s a lot of transmission and to remember how to put it back together looks very complicated but with your experience it will be better than before. God Bless Y’all.
Ford spelled Backward, is an Acronym for 'Driver Returns On Foot' My only experience with Ford Transmissions is with the 3 speed in my 66 Galaxie, and my Company F250 with a V10. That Transmission failed less than 100 miles after the Warranty Period. It was covered, cause I had taken the Truck in about 1700 miles before, but some Part the Stealership wanted to replace, was gonna take a few days to arrive, so they gave me the Truck back, and a week later it was on the Hook going back to the Stealership.
They had a update to the high pressure oil pump O rings. My 2001 had a big oil leak coming from up top. Service bulletin fix to replace O rings with newer versions.
I like the 4r100, they never spawn extra neutrals like GM offerings often do. At least in my ownership experience. On the park paw, it's light engagement isn't a problem, you have a much better chance of the bolt falling out of the steering column linkage.
Perfect timing. Just got that same truck, just in bronze. Yeah, they are a big machine. Is there any was that you know of to change the overdrive off button on the shifter to act like the tow/haul feature of later models? Thanks. Have a great day Richard and Teresa. And God Bless. o7
I’m looking to rebuild a Mercedes / Chrysler transmission 722.6(72) AWD transmission I would love to see you tear it down and rebuild it worth every penny
Love watching your videos. I just found out about the new channel. I thought you guys stopped the videos because every time I would check the old channel there wouldn’t be any new videos. Question- do you do transmission rebuild videos or just videos taking transmission apart??
WOW! Always thought I wanted to work on an automatic transmission... nope! If I would have worked on that I'd have door stop parts for the whole neighborhood! How do you remember all that?? Do you ever work on the Alison transmissions for Chevy\GMC? Would love to see what's in one of those!! Thanks for the learning and keep up the good work. And take care of yourselves!
hello not to be critical but the shaft that engages the parking brake when held in place with the output flange adaptor holds it the parking brake then will be fully engaged
Great videos as always. What is the maximum transmission temperature you want to see say pulling a 6 or 7 thousand pound trailer in the Texas heat. People have opinions all over the place. I am interested in your opinion.
I have a question about Ford Automatic Transmission swaps. I have a 1977 F-150 with a 302 & a C4. Will an AOD fit and function normally without any computer control? My friend keeps telling me the AOD is computer controlled, and I keep telling him that He's thinking of the AOD-E. Springtime is near and I want to start scouring the salvage yards for a worthy AOD core to rebuild. I appreciate any knowledge you may care to share. Thank you.
First off I love your videos and immense amount of knowledge. I have a question about a ford 5r44 transmission. i have a 2004 Ranger with a 3.0 and 5 speed auto. I don't like the way it shifts, especially into 4 and 5. transmission will not shift into these gears unless i'm doing at least 40 mph and when it shifts it is almost at the same time. if i turn OD off it will shift into 4 then will shift into 5th when I turn od back on. It seems to have a fairly high stall speed on converter. I believe that is actually stock configuration. Would a lower stall speed help? could there be something going on with the valve body? could there be several problems? Thank you for all the educational videos and explanations that go with teardowns.
Excellent knowledge to remember all of that sir; i have a 2001 ford 7.3 diesel 4x4 and i found pieces of clutch in my pan last fluid and filter replace; its only a matter of time until she quits isn't it? Please give it to me straight...thanks...
Richard may I ask your Personal Preference/Opinion. I'm in a love hate relationship with my 2 most prized trucks my 06 mega cab 5.9 4x4 . and my 00 7.3 Excursion. The Dodge only has 149k , the Ford is just short of 500k. the dodge is rusting out the ford is solid ive been considering swapping in the 5.9 since the dodge is rusting to pieces. Vs sell both and buy something newer. either way not sure as to which tranny would you run if it was your rig.. 48re or 4r100. We tow nothing too heavy, run these trucks stock (7.3 has a 50hp tune but that's it. I do have the GM Gov Pressure solenoid upgrade in the 48re and I LOVE the way it shifts. Appreciate you all as always. Thank you.
I purchased a jasper trans for my 02 f250 7.3 4x4 crew cab. I purchased all new sensors ,bypasstube, etc. The sensors were different lengths. At first it wouldn't shift correctly. The shop switched the sensors around putting the lomger one in the rear. They were definitely not the same lengths. I'm guessing I need to go ahead and order a new front sensor? I have t had any issues yet.
@@adamsorell4851 no. They wasn't. I've read multiple multiple forum after forums about this topic. I didn't pull the old ones out to check. Now the input sensor is the short version and the output sensor is the long version. In reverse it wouldnt shift correctly. Now it shifts fine and isn't throwing any codes. I've onky git a few hundred miles on is so I may just go ahead and change it. Or hope it grenades in the first 99,999 miles. Ill probably change it. I will say that I went to three parts stores. All three had the same part numbers. Although apparently they are supposed to be the same. At all three there was a short then lomger sensor.
Richard I've got a transmission question. What would cause an 83 th400 to start spewing the fluid out of the dipstick/fill tube and have the neutral act as if it were the drive gear?
I would say the forward clutches are welded together. That’s why you have forward in neutral wants the seal blew out in the drum now you have an internal pressure leak into the case of the vent circuit
Thanks for the teaching richard them ford need to get better shift solenoids they tend to bang in the gear n thats the 2013 eco boost 6 speed got 6 of them crap in there n right by module in transmission oil pan n on them nnew escape it starts to slip on awd eco boost saids to change oil every 30000 miles but its at 56000 or so n its rental but slipping like clutches in tq converter out
I have a lowish mileage '99 that has a tinny sound when warmed and idling. Now I'm wondering if that snap ring has let loose and rattling around on my coast clutch housing....what are the symptoms when that snap ring lets go?
A question from a novice: Might it be a GOOD idea for that parking pawl to just be touching slightly in case of someone (if it's possible on that truck) shifts into park at speed? I'm assuming damage either way, but maybe less in this case.
i’m in Alabama and i know you don’t like having trans shipped to you to rebuild and then have it installed by an owner, so do you know of a good shop on the level of yours in northern AL or TN that you could recommended for a TH350 that’s going to back up a Stroker 383 W/440Hp?
Hey Teresa and Richard! Glad to see you making vids. I have a 01 Sierra that will need its 4L60E rebuilt. How can I get in touch with you guys to arrange that? Thanks!
I have that same truck but an 01, had the tranny rebuilt 4yrs ago and had a billet triple disc put into it. A few months ago i started noticing that when I take off something feels like its shuddering or chattering or something like that as if i am running a Ujoint without needle bearings. But after it gets up to about 20mph or so that shaky vibration goes away. Almost feels like the clutches are worn away. Any quick online diagnosis you can point your finger towards for me?
