Richard and Teresa I love when you put out these videos when you do a manual transmission these are transmissions people just seem to forget about and yet they're a big part of keeping a truck running I wish more cars had manual transmissions put out more manual transmission videos these are the best ones I think you put out there .
I've must have watched every automatic transmission take down Richard ever presented here. This is maybe the second manual gearbox I have seen done by him. Love every bit of the presentation...
Pretty much how other transmissions are/were like to get the cluster out . Just cut the cage off and she pops right out . That guy ran the balls off that trans . When you start bangin' gears, especially with a diesel you better be ready to start buying hard parts when things go poof . lol I used to start laughing when a customer would whine about how expensive a rebuild was going to cost, when they have size 19 shoes . lol @@dzntz1
I’ve built loads of gearboxes Richard. Nothing like the weight of the good old cast iron case for a work out. The smell of burnt, old gear oil,it stays with you. I would liked to have a go at that gearbox, my cup of tea. A very expensive rebuild considering all the damage. Absolutely great video!!!!
Thank you for the content it helps me cope I'm a retired mechanic of 45 years prayers my friend hope to see a lot more but take it easy my friend .loved this video .peace.
You commented on finding a lot more problems after performing a clean-up of a transmission. How about doing a follow up after disassembling a transmission that is showing bad wear like the Dodge NV 4500 telling and or showing what other problems were found. A re-assembly video would be great too. I subscribed to you after watching this video. Very professionally done video.
Perhaps you could include some still images of the carnage that you find after the cleanup & inspection & include them at the end of the video. I, for one, would like to see that.
Richard, I’m almost in Amarillo TX and planned to stop by your shop. I flew from Maryland, and driving back. So, my wife was looking you up and your old business is closed up? The date is 14 March, 2024@ 3:45 pm. I’ve been watching your You Tube for over 2 years. I have a long drive back. I’ll be in Amarillo in about an hour. Is there anywhere I can see your shop? I’d hate to go all the way home and miss this chance. I’m the Army guy who reached out to you and spoke with you on the phone 2 years ago. Let me know. Kind Regards, Tom
I have a video request... I wish you'd do a video each on generations of transmissions. For example, in the Mopar line do a single video on the 904,727 and all of their children to the 48re. Have them all blown apart and laid out on the floor. Point out similarities, evolutions and SPECIFICALLY interchangeable parts that can be used to improve upon a transmission (like interchangeable planetary gears that can be taken out of 1 transmission and put in another to add strength). Do 1 video each for mopar, gm, and ford. That would be some AWESOME tech!
Please show us videos of what else you find wrong and how to put it back together. This is very interesting and I really enjoy seeing your and Teresa's videos.
This is awesome. I just looked on precision transmission. And no new videos and no comments so I had to Google what happened. Glad I found you And I subbed.😁
Thank you, I have only 'torn down' Disassembled one Manuel tranz, a 3speed from a chevy car a friend helped me. and I ended up putting a 4 speed in but reassembled the 3 speed I'm told it worked, but back in 1976 I didn't have the Patience to learn Transmissions. at 64 yrs old I get to learn some because I want to. Thank you for getting these videos out At lease I now have a starting point. I may try a 700r4 after watching you. This thing looks nasty you have on this video.
Gday from Australia ! Can I ask where’s Trent ? Looking out the door it’s dark ! Working nights mate …. I wish i lived near you . I’d work for free in your shop just to learn . I’m 61 this year . X TF dragster crew member . Tradesman boat builder / 1st class welder . Shade tree mechanic lol
I worked on one of these for a guy who was too cheap to go to a transmission shop. He heard that there was a large nut holding (Its been quite a while ago) something in tight and if it backed off, things got ugly fast. I do remember it was four wheel drive and that nut was most likely about a inch and a quarter, more or less, It had some tangs on a locking washer that kept it from backing off. I did as he asked and of course it was not as tight as should be. At that point, I figure there is more damage on the inside but he said, "Just tighten the heck out of it" and so I did, then reassembled it. I will admit it did shift better and never gave him any problems after.
My '03 Jeep Rubicon has a NV3550 and getting gear oil for it is a challenge. At 108k so far so good. That tells me that it is under-engineered and needs all the lube help it can get.
Richard that thing looks like it's new or reman trans time. Close to case value only. A good example of not paying attn to lubrication costing a fortune.
Redline Synchroshift worked fine in my Dakota 4.7 V8 NV3500 and my GMC Sonoma 4.3 V6 NV3500 for 200k each. Both shifted fine at the end of my ownership.
Glad to see Richsrd outta the furniture house snd bsxk i to what he likes, though Richsrd i heard you could put together a dining room table the fastest
Between the NV 4500 and a ZF 5 speed which one is the better transmission behind a 12 valve Cummins for a 2wd truck? Thank you Richard I enjoyed the tear down of the NV 4500
just a heads up richard , i am no mechanic , but when ever i change out manual tranny fluid , i always pour in quart of engine duralube engine treatment into the tranny then top it up with the proper weight of gear oil , even though duralube is for engines , it works great in manual transmissions , when worked into the various metal parts , the tranny shifts smoothly like a hot knife through butter ,been doing this for many years
In my 05 Dodge 5.9 6 speed MV not the Benz trans I run two quarts of Lucas oil stablizer Dino type and top it off with Amsoil sever gear and I have 152K and still factory clutch and still alls hood I don’t run auto trans fluid in my transfer case and I run Amsoil sever gear in it too because nothing goes into every nock and cranny like synthetic oil does .
Wow.... NOBODY gets 150K. That Amosil must be great stuff! Over 300k. NV4500 behind 400hp. Redline MT in the transmission & ATF+4 in the transfer case. Amosoil cheerleaders give the world something to laugh at every day.
With that much Carnage inside that transmission what about going and finding a used one that you can pull apart even though it's got where on it you can still be better off than having exploded Parts in it
Hey guys, I’ve been away from y’all since the feud with Trent. I see you are in a new shop. What happened to your old place of business?I hope everything is ok with you and your Son Trent. I love watching you dissect transmissions Richard. Keep up the good work. PS, great camera work Teresa!
@@jeremyking5684 I couldn’t believe what Trent did to Richard. I think Trent’s wife runs that family. Puttin her nose where it doesn’t belong, and ruined Father and Son’s relationship which appeared strong.
Hi Richard, it seems like these 5-speed transactions self destruct . Are they worth rebuilding or would an alternate be advised? I'm not sure if I can trust anyone up here in Michigan. Or would it be easier to bring it to you? 😊
Whats the best way to get in contact with you for a rebuild? Im having trouble finding a shop nearby that can rebuild a 68RFE. My stock one no longer goes into any forward gear just reverse with 425k miles.
New venture takes $20 a quart oil for junk results. Went through 4 3500s behind a 318 2wd. Granted the first 2 got ripped out by nitrous and probably by someone who has no business with a 4-5sp. You can't speed shift these. They weren't designed for that but, there are a lot of dummies in my home state. I never abused the last 2. Oh, $600 used if you can find a 2wd dakota.
92 nv3500 behind a SBC 383 stroker, only ever replaced the pickle fork pivot once and gear oil in a Bowtie C1500 Extended cab. And the nv4500 is supposed to be the HD transmission...
On my 05 the trans always makes noise when taking off and unless I give it some fuel and it won’t chatter on take off and I change every thing every 2-3 years depends on mileage Iam retired now and my wife’s car and my truck only gets the oil changed once a year with mileage is 5K and under .
@@shadowopsairman1583 I had a one piece drive shaft made in East Texas Dodge drive shat with a over size u joints no Carrie bearings I replaced 3 in 3 years and with a new 5” diameter 72” alum drive shaft has been nothing but fantastic and a fluid dampner it all made everything vibration free and it’s done this since brand new . My next move will be a clutch and one piece fly wheel from south Bend with a heavy single disc don’t want all the noise from a double disc and it has been a great truck with a 152K on the clock.
My 700R4 trans in my Nomad (with a 383) won’t shift correctly until it warms up. When it warms up it shifts ok. Any recommendations as to correcting this issue? Enjoy the channel. Tks for sharing.
Thank you for only showing us the fun part of transmission work, not the many hours of what comes next. Do you reference blow-apart diagrams when you put them back together? Like "does this beveled washer go on the shaft this way or that way?" Or you've just done so many of these you don't need them any more? My nightmare scenario is when a tranny that's been touched before was assembled incorrectly or with parts missing. I'm good at putting things back in the same order they came apart, but if something was installed backwards, in the wrong order or with a part missing... I'll never catch it!
I've just recently found yalls new page and know nothing about what happened. But, I just heard you say it took you 6hrs to clean that 4R100 from that Powerstroke, do yall not have that Parts Washer machine that was sent to yall awhile back anymore?
