This video shows traction differences between 4WD car with winter tyres and 2WD car with all season tyres.
Cars:
- Renault Catur 1.2 Tce EDC XMOD with Extended Grip system (all season tyres - Kumho Solus KH25 Mud+Snow)
- Suzuki Vitara S 1.4T AT All Grip Select (winter tyres - Nokian WR D4)
Next part coming soon - Renault Captur will get the same tyres as Suzuki Vitara, so we will see the difference between all season and winter tyres (and 2wd vs 4wd with the same tyres).

Yes and no 😅 SUV doesn't need to be used in terrain, there are many countries without snow and people are using SUV because they have better safety chances during crashes or you can save car riding through road holes. Or they just looks cool.

not really. The car struggled so much to overcome very little snow, with excessive wheel spin. Imagine what would have happened in a more challenging scenario. On a 2wd the only weapon you have are the wheels, so in winter get winter tyres. All-season tyres may be a good choice on a 4wd, where traction could lead you where tyres can't

Thanks for the test! Let me clarify something: M+S are actually not all season tires! Adequate and yet certified all season tires will have the Mountains and snow flake symbol! Made this investigation on my Subaru XV also equipped with M+S tires (they seem to be much better than those installed on the renault here in the test....sure also due to excellent AWD on the subaru). M+S are kind of off road tires with some snow/mud capability...not really all seasons (do not trust me: search it- I did) So again, proper all season, yet premium tires will do work equally well like many winter tires including also these the best ones (well, scoring will be compromised in some disciplines of course but they will be close). Michelin Cross-climate are one of them (did not have opportunity to drive them yet but at least seen them in many tests).
@4x4.tests.on.rollers
@4x4.tests.on.rollers 6 лет назад
+myslecinaczej Everything you wrote is correct, however in this case it is not the point of M+S sign, but info from tyre producer (and Renault) that these are all season tyres, with some better snow capabilities. Better than slicks I think....

@ChopStickZero
@ChopStickZero 6 лет назад
The Captur traction test didnt prove anything because in the second test you started moving the steering wheel left and right and trying to find alternate traction which is the classic way of getting out of such predicaments. If you did that in the first try with the ROAD mode on , the result would be the same as with the SOFT GROUND mode on, the Captur would have driven on.
@4x4.tests.on.rollers
@4x4.tests.on.rollers 6 лет назад
ChopStickZero Nope, I just moved steering wheel a little bit to the left, otherwise car would drive into bushes. Captur wouldn't drive on with ROAD mode on, rpm was cut at about 1200 rpm, not enough torque and wheel speed.

The clue is that tyres on Captur are useless on snow although the producer calls them all season. As you see - they are not. But sure, it's easier to write ironic comment first than to consider why Captur couldn't move. And what difference driving modes made.

@@4x4.tests.on.rollers Not all all all-season tyres are the same. There are some good channels on youtube where they compare all-season tyres in snow and yes some are really bad, but others are quite good. Of course snow tyres beat them all though, Im not sure there are many people that would think otherwise. If you want to compare all-season to snow tyres it is not a fair comparison if the other car is a 4x4 and one that comes out in tests as one of the better 4x4 systems at that.
