The oil pump itself will accept the hold-down bolt in either of two positions --- IF the tube didn't have that tab assembly to keep the clamp from being used in a better position --- one you can almost actually get to with a wrench! I'm betting that wherever the engine was built, the policy is to put the bolt in a very unreachable place and then force you to put it back in the same place! That's just mean! I'm going to Dremel that tab off so I can swing the hold-down clamp 180° to use the other bolt hole that's already in the correct position on the pump. .It's all threaded and accepts the same bolt and everything --- it's just mean that GM did this and it makes me wonder why. My GM Fanboi position has slipped a few notches.
Is the other bolt hole accessible? If so, you can get a special part to eliminate using the existing bolt arrangement. I have one of them if you need it.
@@SurferJoe46 what’s that look like? There’s another bolt hole, yea, but the part that some people can flip to the other side is welded into one welded piece. I tried wiggling it loose, but it didn’t budge.
@@littlecabininthebigwoods5720 It's a kinda horseshoe shape with a bolt hole and a new bolt to put on the other side ... where you'd like to be able to swing that clamp. Let me see if I can get a pix of it for you ... OK?
@@SurferJoe46 i actually got it. Then i broke a bolt to the oil pump. Might have to do my ship in a bottle magic act again. String and hemostats and a few hours and now i have a method. I luckily bought a ratcheting 10mm open wrench.
