Well 5.8 is clearly the right choice for you! I was just wondering about your basis of comparison in your particular flying environment. 5.8 didn't quite do it for me, but I'm glad we have choices. Thanks Bruce!
Sound advice. I'm using 2.4GHz for video at the moment using a light 12dbi Yagi on my receiver with a clover skew planar in a diversity arrangement. I also have an 8 turn 2.4Ghz helical but its a bit heavy. The direction of the the turns on the clover attached to the transmitter have to match the direction of the turns on the helical attached to the receiver: right-hand or left-handed. 5.8Ghz is good with decent antennae, and the 5.8GHz antennae are compact.
Calculate a 1/2-wavelength antenna by dividing 468 by the transmission or reception frequency, measured in megahertz (Mhz). Full wave:984 divided by frequency in MHz, need to get the SWR 1,1:1 but usually a reading below 1.5:1 is acceptable
CP antennas need to match. If you have a Circularly Polarized antenna on one side, and then a Linearly Polarized antenna, than that will introduce massive amounts of RF loss. Also if you are running CP, than you need to match the polarization direction. Right Hand CP to Right Hand CP. Left Hand CP to Left Hand CP. LP to LP. You need CP-CP or LP-LP, never mix them.
Your videos are always so informative. Thank you! Are the newer fatshark receivers better/more sensitive now? I just ordered attitude sd goggles with a 250mw transmitter. Will the built in receiver/transmitter combo with clover leaf antennas get me a couple of kilometers as wellor do I need to buy a different brands to get the more sensitive receiver?
Excellent video! What are your thoughts on the DJI AVL58? I'm using it with a Lilliput 664 monitor with built in receiver but I get snow even at 10m! I think the problem is my monitor. Any suggestions on the best monitor with built in Rx? Thanks!
Bruce, can you recommend an anti-Jello device to reduce CMOS wobble for GoPro cameras? I have the Dji Phantom and it can get quite bad. There are ones where the cam is suspended by looped cable, ones with silicone pads etc.. A heads up on the best one would be great.
could you give us what is the best package for the Hubsan 501S and the advanced controller for each the 2.4 and the 5.8 sides? It would be a great video for us to purchase from for long distances.
first off thank you for the videos! what would be the best for the woods? I am looking to film friends mountain biking and ill need something that can fly behind thick brush and big oak trees and my range about half a mile down hill.
I see a 5.8m 2000mW Boscam and Neewer for sale now Transmitter. I'm using the transmitters in the mountings with my "Rock Crawler'. I Realize i'm not going to get a lot of range, but I also don't need to worry about weight, so another battery won't bother the model. Maybe 4-500 meters is all the "crawler" is going to be.I'm in the western US, desert country, miles from anyone else... What do you think?
Hi man i like your video on the fpv and i got some question me and my friends want to make fpv racing cars at my garage do you think 5.8ghz fpv equipment will work fine since we are about 8 cars
Hi bruce i have a question about 2.4g video i fly 433 radio and fly alone always. i was wondering if i was at a field with other flying on their 2.4 radios i would give them any bother or even shoot them down (or mess my video) my tx is 600mw with clovers. thanks your a legend ive learnt so much from your channel
if i want to be able to fly in and around trees and concrete structures. what frequency and wattage should i use and will it also do well in distance flying.
I have a fat shark attitude kit with the white cylindrical antennas. The antenna on my goggles points upwards and the transmitter on my blade 350 aims downward. Is that the best setup or should I mount the transmitter on the top of my quad so it faces upward as well? I have signal breakup at some fairly close ranges if I'm flying around a tree. Please advise.
Which is actually the best (as video stability and video distance) 5.8ghz video transmitter? between boscam ts832 and immersion which do you recommend? if there are other brand with better performance can you link me here? thanks
how about fpv formation with 3 models using 5.8ghz on different channels. will they have a problems? pls explain best way to fly 2-3 models in the same band with different channels, do's and dont's when in that configuration.
with the hiee 5.8 600mw TS832 &RM5832 with cloverleaf antennas will I be okay flying 1000yards and keep full video? please email me back and let me know what you think! I respect what you say and I know that you know what you are talking about! love your videos very informative and easy to understand thank you god bless
hi can you tell me if using fpv on rc boats does the range get affected using it on water, i have this fitted on my boat and can only get a certain distance ( roughly 120 yrds ) before the picture goes, ive used the standard antena , cloverleafs and i also made a 6 turn helical and all the same result, using boscam 200mw tx , thanks for any answers
I am new to fpv!. I just bought a hiee TS832 and RM5832 and I also purchased a emerson hd action cam gopro clone 40usd, now I want to buy a cctv board camera I do not have a lot of money I am flying a tbs discovery clone quad usind naza fc with gps I was going to purchase a sony cctv board cam as my second cam on my quad I saw them from 17usd to 90 usd I do not plan to fly more than 1000yards
So? wich system do you advise?I am starting in fpv, but i need some range, let's say o1 km, and i need it to have realy good quality image, so that i can use it in my clients videos! Wich one friend?Best regards
Is it possible to use non fatshark transmitters with fatshark goggles? I really like their design, but would really like to use the transmitter i already have
Very good review. I'm new to fpv and I've learnt more from this video than anything I've read out there. Thank you for your effort and keep up the very good work!!
You said that 2 years ago and yet still that FPV gear is going strong. Don't be so quick to jump on the latest trends, You might comment on a video and look like a bit of a dick.
Very very helpful video. Thank you for taking the time to make this and explaining all of these. Im new to this and you are greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Great overview on these wireless video links. Hobbyking just got the FatShark PredatorV2 back in stock today and although it's not listed in the US warehouse, I sent out an order for one anyways to get hooked to my quadcopter.
I absolutly hate 5.8 gig its a short range frequency period. I like 1.2 much better and have better luck with it. Also 900mhz is nice but I run telemetry with that. I am a lisc ham so I have no issues using proper freqs and my call sign. Lots of bootlegging going on and from what I hear the FCC is going to start cracking down on the Commercial operators running in ham bands without a ticket. Anyhow seems to be lots of 5.8 stuff but it just doesn't cut it. And all the people selling antennas for ridiculous amounts of money should be thrown in jail for what they charge. Do your homework guys/gals and you can build your own setup for pennies on the dollar and stop buying 5 dollar antennas for a 100 bucks.
Candid Sky Productions yup, my 2000mw system is okay for up to a kilometer maybe. I just ordered a 1.2-1.3ghz system. Im excited to get some real distance lol
if you were running 2 watts and only getting a kilometer, you were really doing something wrong. Ive been able to do around 650meters on 25mw, or .025 watts. On 200mw you should be able to push 2km.
Nice video and it definitely answered questions regarding differences between Shark and other radios ( I did know that channels were different) with with respect to performance. I'm glad you stressed the importance of having an antenna hooked up.
Do you know if an American police car will interfere with the 5.8ghz and 915mhz signals? I've had 2 problems recently with very reliable quads. The first time I was flying maybe 1/10th of a mile away from myself on DJI and 915 ELRS. My video went black while in the air. When I drove to my crashed quad, there were 2 police cars nearby with their lights on. The second time I was flying in front of my house. I got a few houses away to the cross street and my radio using ELRS 915mhz failsafed. A few seconds later a police car came out of the cross street and blocked the road so no one would drive over my quad. I never have these problems with my quads. In front of my house I can actually fly around the block with this quad. That's about 10 houses between me nd my quad. This time I had no houses between me and my quad.
The most thorough, concise, and articulate explanation concerning the basic facts and logistics behind FPV system components. Thanks for a great video, with outstanding discourse.
Interesting videos - thx for them. Could you make a video comparison between 900 / 1200 and 5.8ghz systems ?? You made a video that showed 1200mhz but as you said it used a crappy camera so it's hard to compare really
Read between the lines...Harmful Provisions on Model Aircraft Remain in Senate With your assistance the Senate incorporated many of our suggestions into the FAA reauthorization bill, but today we learned that the Senate did not pass all of our amendments. One of the provisions would still require hobbyists to who build their own models at home to meet FAA design and production standards. The new legislation also potentially jeopardizes hundreds of flying sites within five miles of an airport. While this is disappointing, we still have other opportunities to shape the final legislation. We ask our members to continue to regularly monitor your email, our website, and the AMA blogs because we may need your help again in the near future. Your thoughts will man a lot to me. please tell me what is your point of view.. I come to a place where the law is oppressive, and the law enforcement is worst than the criminals!! I quote Jack Sparrow "Pirates Of The Caribbean" you can always thrust a dishonest man. He will make the dishonest thing first opportunity you give him. meaning you know what the criminals are up to, but from where I come from, you never know if the police is doing its job or what else are they doing..
another fantastic video, I flew 1.4km with my DJI Phantom and the video signal was solid, I used fat shark 250Mw and 2 Skew Plannars. video on my channel, I shall soon push for the 1.6km :)
Great video! I have a DJI Phantom 2 Vision and have been thinking about of making an antenna modification on the range extender to improve the factory FPV distance. I purchased a TP-Link 2.4GHz 5dBi Omni-directional antenna and a Mini PCI U.FL / IPX to RP-SMA antenna wifi pigtail cable. Is there anything you recommend I do before I make the change, or should I even bother? Thanks!
Its always best to tell the truth ,,, unless your getting free stuff to review on You-tube . Remember its OK to talk bad about the other guy BUT!!! never say the word """cheaper """ . If you want to keep getting free stuff . Just saying the company's sending you the stuff want you to push the expensive stuff or soon your emails just don't get answered and the free stuff drys up . But us poor folks like the truth , thats why we are watching You-tube to keep from making stupid (expensive) mistakes . Thanks saved me a bundle ! And remember no government wants you to have fun . That's why they make stupid laws that don't apply to them only the poor .
Hello sir. You are great teacher. I have watched most of your videos. You explain very well Sir what max. range can we get from boscom ts582000 tx from ground to ground. Basically i want to put fpv on unmanned ground vehicle.
In your opinion, what are the best FPV goggles if you don't go with the Fat Shark setup? Will you get a better quality transmitter/receiver by putting your own FPV system together or is more cost effective to just go with a Fat Shark setup? Great video by the way. I'm just learning all of this and your video is very informative.
By the way, at least in the US, getting your ham license is easy and free. You can get a Technician class license with a night of studying and a trip to a test site! This gets you legal up to 1500 Watts on 5.8GHz.
