1- earn more instead of save more 2- invest, money can work 24/7, you can't 3- be disciplined, practice delayed gratification (invest early and often instead of splurging early) 4- change your mind: recognize when you fail or when you're wrong, pivot 5- set ambitious goals, make concrete plans on how to achieve your goals

As recession fears mount on Wall Street and inflation remains well above the Fed's 2% target, some of the top commentators in markets, business, and economics have been sounding off on just how bad they think the next downturn might be - and how far stocks may have to fall. I need ideas and advice on what investments to make to set myself up for retirement, my goal is to have a portfolio of at least $850k at the age of 60.

I wish somebody taught me about job jumping when I was in my 20's. For some reason, I was under the impression that building solid years in a company is the ideal scenario, not realizing that I can still build solid work experience but would have been in a better salary negotiation if I sought the same opportunity but maybe in a different company. I hope more young people see this channel because it's very practical and really helpful.

That's not always true, if a hiring manager doesn't like job hoppers or see it as lack of commitment every year or so for several years it's more risky for them if they need someone that appears to be more committed and responsible. You should show some improvement in trajectory and show growth first then you have some leverage for good raise or look at other companies after a few years at least.

@@potato1084 I agree with you. They way the medical field in hospitals is set up is not conducive to making more just because you work harder. The CEOs aren’t beholden to this of course but the rest of us are held to a rating system. Even if you score the highest rating at the end of the year, it’s only a 1 percent or half a percent difference higher then a middle rating. There’s no way I could go to my boss and show him a list of things I have done during the year to improve performance , efficiency etc and ask for a larger raise than what the corporation has already decided to “set” for its employees. Not every job field functions the same.

My immigrant parent's goals were to give my brother and I "better lives". In humbleness we do have better lives, but now my goal for my kids is to be financially independent earlier. We're not there yet but I'm hoping after we can get there that they do it even earlier than us. Goals and still running the marathon.

As an avid investor, I frequently ponder how successful investors get millions of dollars from their investments because I see some people content with their strong portfolios. I have over $545K in equity from the sale of my house, but I'm not sure what to do with it. Should I invest in stocks now or should I wait for a better opportunity?

Building wealth involves developing good habits like regularly putting money away in intervals for solid investments. Financial management is a crucial topic that most tend to shy away from, and ends up haunting them in the near future.Making money is not the same as keeping it there is a reason why investments aren't well taught in schools, the examples you gave are well stationed, the market crisis gave me my first millions, people shy away from hard times, I embrace them.. well at least my advisor does lol.

Today's job market is different....employers are laying off as needed, even promoted people because they landed ton a project or product that's changing direction. Total comp was a good path to wealth but most employers don't provide big bonus and equity. And employees have less power to ask for % raise these days just because they work harder or moved jobs doing something similar. Glassdoor has market rate and you'll get paid that you are skilled at every at another company.

Yes, as you stated, Millennials and Gen Z went through tough financial times in recent years. But I know quite a few Baby Boomers who have had to support these generations through it all using our hard earned cash, common sense and frugality. Even some from the Silent generation have had to do this, they are great grandparents now! Draining us financially so they can live comfortably. ( Paying for their college, giving them a place to live, paying their bills because they can't find a job, etc. ) Hopefully these generations can take your VERY sound advice and run with it! You are a powerhouse, and a great source of financial advice. You go girl!!!!

Let’s state it a little differently - every generation faced tough financial trade winds in the era when they were coming up. I am Gen-X and graduated during a recession and the first Gulf War in the early 1990s. The job markets we had were much different then (e.g., there was no such thing as job hunting online widely) and difficult to navigate. She has a great message except fails by targeting Millenials and GenZ with the suggestion that they’ve had it uniquely tough.
