Art shops are my source for: Brown kraft paper for glue ups and finishing Boiled linseed oil, gum turpentine, and beeswax - to make finishes and paste wax, Scalpels and craft knives and blades - to cut and shape cardboard templates Small palettes and brushes - small finishing jobs Sketch books and pencils - designing and recording measurements

Also I found an arts supply wholesaler near work that is much cheaper than retailers

Great Share Anthony! I'm actually thinking about doing a future video to see what I can find at a Hobby Lobby. My only problem is I think there is so much there that it may be overwhelming. I also like to buy hardware sometimes from arts and craft stores (Hinges, knobs, etc!) Thanks for the excellent post!

Flynn buddy, the French curves and white scotch brite pads (although out of stock currently)are at my Rockler. Gotta say though I'm really liking the new style of video. Little more serious but still with some good jokes. Def going to check out those triangular 123 style blocks.

Damn! I was afraid someone would find some of those items at one of those stores! I swear I've literally looked for those damn scotch brite pads everywhere! Thanks for the comment, as I'm sure there are other rocklers that have them as well. Thanks so much for watching Amber!

Lol no worries bud. I have the unfair advantage of working there and there's like 50 some stores now too. Keep up the good work though. I always enjoy watching your vids.

Really enjoyed this video! Rockler does have a different brand of white pads for Rubio application. How about a video on using the Rubio?
@FlynndoggWoodwork
@FlynndoggWoodwork Год назад
Great Idea Blayne, I will probably work that into a future video. It really is pretty simple! Thanks for watching!

Great video! I just got my Rubio for my first tests. What I like about Rubio is the repair ability of it. It’s durable, but any tabletop surface will require repair eventually. Lacquer requires a professional. Rubio would just require the owner to get some Rubio and reapply on the damaged area. Assuming they can find white scotch brute pads! I’ll point my customers to your video! ;)

@FlynndoggWoodwork Год назад
Thanks so much Sandy! Rubio is pretty amazing! the only thing it lacks is the protection of a lacquer, etc. You are too kind, Thank you and tank you so much for watching the video!

I saw you have a large supply of white Scotch-Brite pads. But, another source (for cheap!) is to buy a white buffer pad and cut it into usable size pieces. A 17" diameter Diablo brand pad is about $10 at Home Depot.

What’s special about the white pads vs the other colours? Really loving your videos. I’m a new subscriber. I’ve watched a bunch of other YT channels and I’m gravitating towards this one. A couple of others I like are Wood Working for Mere Mortals, Jonathan Katz-Moses, Matt Estlea.

Thank you so much for subscribing HibsMax! I think you question is a really good one, and I'll be honest I'm not sure it really does matter that much. I think the white ones are less likely to potentially leave any coloration on the wood and they also are much easier to see how much of that expensive finish you have on your pad. I've used green ones for years and never really had that much of a problem with it! I love the channels you mentioned. Some of my favorites as well!

How do you like the Rubio monocoat? Does it seem durable enough for real world use? I am used to film building finishes like lacquer, polyurethane etc.
@FlynndoggWoodwork
@FlynndoggWoodwork Год назад
Lacquer is usually my go to! I've done about 3 projects so far with Rubio and it seems to hold up pretty well. I wouldn't ever use it on a table top because of the wear and tear, but I have used it on a night stand. I did it about a year ago and it still looks very nice. I do however wonder if it would look better with a second coat. it has a real matt finish, and I feel like a like a little more satin or gloss finish. I does look very nice though and all of the figure in the wood does come through very nicely. Its also pretty amazing how far a little will go. I used one of those small sample bottles to do that entire nightstand, and that was after I spilled half of it on the floor!

If you cannot find the Scotch Brite pads, order white buffing pads for a floor sander. They are like 20" in diameter, and you can cut the size you need. Five pads for a little over $26 and lasts a long time.

Looked up Rubio mono coat on A and there are a few variations. Which one should we get?
@FlynndoggWoodwork
@FlynndoggWoodwork Год назад
Hi Greg! Great question, the only one I've had experience with is pure, which is basically a clear coat. I've been very pleased with it it so far, it will leave a very matte finish. Hope this helps!

With that first clamp item super glue the pads on there if not you will lose them as you pull that thing in and out. I have one like it and had to order new pads but instead i super glued chair feet pads on them for saving my wood.
