Good video, however I would comment some of the points if you don’t mind: 1. E-brake: i agree, however BMW wanted to make this generation more luxurious than E85, that’s why it ended up with electric e-brake 2. If you think this is as bad as a 3-series, you haven’t owned a 3 series before. I have, and I can tell you the quality of Z4 is way above that, even compared to my current 2017 440i. When E89 came out, E90s were the 3 series, with even poorer interior quality. 3. Seats - you just didn’t order an optional upgrade 4. Door opener - same, it’s an optional upgrade 5. Get rid of the runflat and pack a flat tyre fixing kit or road assistance service. Run flats kill the fun, I agree.
Thank you for a very constructive comment! I understand why they would do a lot of these things, like the e-brake etc. but I still find it annoying as I just prefer the real deal especially when I’ll take the car on the track. Maybe my memory is a bit off, but my e92 BMW 335xi coupe has a much better quality interior and that car from from 2008. Run flats are only for the winter, can’t wait for weather to get back to 45+. Once again thanks for watching and enjoy your 440i, I’ve been looking at those recently. How do you like it?
SimpleCarGuy it’s a powerful animal and awesome for travelling but not as much fun as the E89 3.0 I have for weekends and fun. I wouldn’t give up the Z4 for the 4 series. Honestly, due to longer travels, I’m seriously considering upgrading the 4 series to 5 or get the most comfortable car, an XC60 Volvo for daily. Z4 stays forever :)
That’s kind of what I do. I have an F10 550i xdrive for really wintery days it when I drive more than 20-30 miles. That car just takes miles like nothing. Z4 stays forever with me as well but I was thinking of my maybe changing the 550 to a 440 since I don’t really need the extra space and weight.
SimpleCarGuy take it for a long term test if you can before you decide. 4 series gran coupe looks great and handles great, but the seat comfort and interior quality is not in the same league as the 5 series. I have the sport seats but apart from the good adjustability they are not that super comfy....
Thats a good idea, I drove a 435i back in 2017 for a few miles and wasn’t super impressed. I hope I like the 440. Maybe I’ll look into the 6 series coupes as well, but those get pricey.
Maybe you should rename the video to "About my specific BMW Z4" My 2014 Z4 has a way nicer orange interior, automatic retracting front screen where you have your lid box, and very nicely designed alcantara sport seats. Also the 35 I version's engine is superb.
Thank you brother for the updates...What is the problem with the timing chain? Is this going to blow at 100,000 miles and tear up the engine....what to do?
The timing chain tends to ‘stretch’ over time and the guides wear out. If you hear ticking noise or ‘chain slap’, I would get it checked out before it gets bad. I have a video on how to replace the timing chain on my channel if you’re interested in the process (it’s a pain). In general, change your oil every 5k and replace the chain tensioner if you are over 50k miles.
As you describe the car you just need to buy a z4 35i and you will be happy 😅mine electric hand brake some times doesn’t works and makes a strange sound too 😢
4:11 Thats an option you can buy when you order the car ;) 5:40 its for legal reasons. the emissions are getting tested under the condition that the auto start stop is on. Turning that off completely by the driver would be illegal. you can however code that out
I wish the person did buy it! As far as the auto stop/start, my 550 does not turn it back on after you turn it off, ever. The car has never been coded, either.
Thanks for the great video! I Agree with some of these, but some of these are options. I know you mentioned that it's based on your opinion, but you just gotta spend more than 50k to get those options lol.
Funny, my 2016 Z4 2.8i auto engine stop stays off once you press the button. At some point they must have changed the programming. I have the M-Sport package with includes the garage door opener and sport seats. The seat especially make a difference. Also, couldn't agree with you more on the e-brake. It's annoying. Another great video!
Most of those things you talk about were optional extras when new. In the UK at least the sports seats came standard on cars with M Sport Packet, otherwise it was around 600 GBP extra, the mirror with home link is optional extra and is so on all BMWs except perhaps a top of the line 7 series. The leather yes is standard basic leather but you could spec it with more expensive better quality leather that covered the dashboard as well, personally I don't find anything wrong with the Kansas Leather it's just fine and way better than cloth. If those items are important to you then it's best to look for an example with those items in it. The start stop AFAIK works the same in all BMWs but you can code it to not come on when you start the car which I suspect is the case with your 550i (its been coded). The N20 if I understand correctly was updated after a certain production date with improved chain that doesn't break. But really I suspect the most reliable Z4 will be either the 23i or 30i, their drivetrains are proven with no real major horror stories unlike the N20 or the N54. Have to agree with you about the runflats they are just shite, I got rid of them just days after buying my Z4.
I mention in the beginning of the video that some of these are specific to my car and not general BMW Z4 (sorry about the wind). I got mine at an auction with a blown engine, so beggars can't be choosers. Just found some of those slightly annoying, love the car either way. As far as the Start/Stop, that's definitely not coded in as my buddy has a 2016 BMW X5 and he can also permanently turn it off. Thank you for watching and appreciate a constructive comment!
@@SimpleCarGuy Yep I couldn't hear the intro part of the video the volume was way too low. The start stop in my 2016 F20 1 Series worked the same way as your Z4 by default it stays on every time you turn the car on, weird how they programmed it different in other models. My 2009 Z4 doesn't have the stupid start stop, thank god! Here's one really annoying thing about the Z4, on the key you have a button to open the boot lid (trunk) but you can't do it if the car is locked! you have to first unlock the car and then press the button to open the boot lid in which case you may as well just use the handle! All my other BMWs you could press that button on the key fob and the boot would open with the rest of the car still locked.
I have never used the hand break yet. Auto doesn’t need it. Maybe different with manual. Interior is superb. Very retro. Your wooden interior style is old man Jag style. Seats hold you in and are good in black and red. Garage door opener - really! 😂 I wish I had auto stop start option! Run flats are superb. In an emergency and you are stuck in the middle of nowhere - run flats are a saviour. Very sporty drive too.
Great points! This is meant to just talk about features that I personally may not like. I know plenty of people love them. E-brake is needed in a manual so the car doesn't roll away and with regular hand brakes, you can also have lots of fun.
