I invited you to join me for a collab! 5 autistic subscribers answered one question, "Does it ever feel like you are living in your own world as an autistic person?" I was surprised by the answers...they seemed similar. Thank you for participating. Feel free to comment down below and put what you would have answered to that same question! Looking forward to hearing from you!

Like you guys, I've lived a large % of my life in my own world. I 'drift off' a lot into my inner world. I feel really sad that a lot of my friendships go wrong and I only very rarely feel understood - but I never feel lonely - just sad. I love my alone time and did as a kid too. Its so nice to find similar people here in your wonderful community Jenny. You're doing a great job of making us feel heard, seen and understood. Thank you ❤

Thank you for doing this Jenny! It was really scary to share my thoughts in a video, but after reading the comments I feel better. Beautiful poem Lisa 😊 I realized that I forgot to mention that I didn't suffer from loneliness because I did have an autistic friend growing up. We didn't know back then, but we both were diagnosed as adults. I now realized how lucky we were to have each other.

Thank you for having the courage to do this! You inspired Gwennie to do something similar, walking out in nature and talking, if we do this again. Read some of the comments under this video, I have seen your name mentioned! :) Yes, I grew up with a friend, Cece, who I believe is autistic, but she hasn't been diagnosed. We text odd things to each other several times a week to make each other laugh. :)

I really liked what Alejandro said about living in the 2 different worlds---that's it for me too! and paying a toll to go to an awful day at school, but the happiness when coming home. That was long ago for me but I remember it clearly and still feel it when I have to go somewhere. I love being at home and just going out in nature alone to connect with everything around me and feel whole again. His walking -along video style was wonderful too. This was a great idea, Jenny...and hopefully more like this to come!

Yes, that statement he said was something I relate to also. And connecting through nature, I love also. It's been so cold lately that I have barely stepped outside. Yes, I'm sure we will do another one of these. Wouldnt' it be nice to do one at least monthly? Thanks for participating! :)

Thank you so much for participating! You were the first submission and I was so excited to receive it! I watched your video last night and was very moved by it (on your channel). It's not easy to share things on youtube sometimes but I feel so worth it when others connect to our story and feel heard through us! I hope you keep making videos and your editing skills is phenominal! A real talent! I liked how you added the video clips in there to help tell the story along with the calming music. You are a natural! One would think you have gone to school for film editing! It was a pleasure to work with you!

Each and every testimony sounds like a different page of the same book. I can relate to all of them, there is so much to say, and it is so hard to find the words. And if you keep receiving answers and making more episodes on this topic, you'll probably be able to show how rich and subtle and misunderstood our inner world is. I mostly relate to Gwennie and to Lisa's powerful and poignant poem, maybe because of personal experience. Thank you so much Jenny, Jeffery, Gwennie, Alejandro and Lisa for sharing !

I related most to Gwennie for obvious reasons. About the time she was officially diagnosed I became self-diagnosed. I am also 71 years old. I would love to have a cup of coffee with her. I would love to have an autistic friend in my own community. Someone I could have deep conversations with, who would understand that there will be times I will not have the energy for it. I am married, but have no real friends outside of my husband. I find them easy to make, not so easy to keep. I, like Jenny, know that this is mainly due to not wanting to put in the time and energy it takes. I appreciated hearing from everyone in this video. Great video, Jenny. Jenny, is there a reason you don't have a link to your Etsy shop in the description area of your videos?
@autisticjenny
@autisticjenny 10 месяцев назад
She does seem cool, doesn't she? :) I think it is important that we have friends on the spectrum and ones we could meet up with (if we wanted to). I do have an etsy shop, but I make digital downloads for those working with seniors. I think most of the folks on my channel wouldn't be very interested in that. But if I ever do sell my photography composites again, I'll link a shop.

My nephew has Autism, and watching this video has given me a deeper understanding of why he is the way he is. I believe that truly understanding an individual with autism takes time, but once you do, you realize what good-hearted, creative, and amazing people they are! I am grateful for these videos as they genuinely help us in understanding individuals with autism. Keeping doing what you’re doing!👏🏻

Thank you so much! I admire you for wanting to learn more about your nephew's condition. If only every uncle/aunt/cousin would do the same thing, there would be so much more understanding about autism. This collaboration was a lot of fun and it was nice to hear many voices answer the same question. :)

Interesting answers! The answer to that question, of course, will always be yes. By definition, every autistic person is living in their own world. This is one of the ways that I can tell that I'm autistic.
@MrDaydreamer1584
@MrDaydreamer1584 10 месяцев назад
Actually, in the case of severe autism, the person is living completely in their own world. But in the case of mild autism (what we're talking about here), the person is kind of living in their own world, and kind of not.

I don't feel like I live in a different world, I feel like I'm FROM a different world. It's constant, ongoing culture shock. It's as if these beings speak a language, subtext, that I don't possess the ability to learn. They have an entirely different set of senses, designed for bright spaces, and made to filter out things. It feels like I'm just not from here, at all. ...I'm just stuck here. And the best I can do is find and befriend the others who also got stuck here.
@autisticjenny

I am not the Lisa who wrote the poem but it brought tears to my eyes. What a perfect end to the video! I used to wonder if I was adopted I felt so different or on the outside in my family even. For the first time I feel exposed, actually seen and understood. It’s a bit uncomfortable because attempts at real communication with anyone usually leave me feeling I said something wrong and regret talking and decide not to do it again. I am 62 not officially diagnosed but have been told today autistic traits that someone sees in me. The person has an autistic daughter. I was recently embarrassed at doctors office in waiting room sitting there not realizing I was on my tip toes until it got uncomfortable. I put my feet down only to not long later caught myself doing it again! Nobody said anything to me but I don’t like that I am completely unaware that I do that until I feel discomfort from it. It makes me feel a bit like a freak what must people think!
@autisticjenny
@autisticjenny 10 месяцев назад
I hope Lisa sees your comment here. :) I understand, growing up in a family and feeling like you are different thing. Don't worry about the doctor office thing...perhaps they think you used to be a ballerina! I gave up on trying to figure out what people think because 99% of the time, it's not what they were actually thinking.

the feeling that describes me the best is that I am a dimension traveller, it gives me comfort. I had a poem once that did go something like this: traveller that you knock on my door, still the dust from other worlds on your shoes, be my guest. in the moment I feel very stuck in the world of others and I hope to move back to nature in hopes of better flow. thank you for these insights.

@Iamjustflux my husband could relate to your story the most. His name is Jeffery also. He goes by Jeff. My husband has had pretty much no friends for years but in high school he had one, and it was a family member. So, I was glad he watched my video yesterday and I knew he would relate to your story. He has not been diagnosed but i want him to at least take an online test. I know he's autistic. I've been living with the dude for 17 years! LOL😆

Sorry, I was planning to record a video but got distracted with life. However, I feel like Im somehow never alone enough but yet more liike an alien that somehow just doesnt belong or know the way things quite work. I love to be around my family, for awhile. I actually love to be around a few people that are somehow connected mostly through others in my life. But again for a limited time. Then I need time to ... reboot. I generally feel more like an alien that people cant communicate well with & dont understand well. A failure at being a sucessful Human. I dont speak the same language or have the same kinds of interactions as the other humans. So, I end up losing friends & then am back on my own. Hoenstly, I dont really mind being on my own & sometimes wish I could be by myself much more. Yet, confusingly, I sometimes wish I could have a few close people that understood me better & would be ok if we dont hang out all the time. Someone who we could get along & click well & understand each others vibe & be willing to hang out but not have to a bunch. Make sense, even though thats confusing?

I wanted to have time to respond to this but had some pressing fixes with the water at home. I have had the feeling standing on the planet saying out loud"am I speaking english" wondering if anyone can even understand what I am saying. I have even taken english in college just to be sure, so its very confusing but after a recent diagnosis at 47 I understand that they dont understand how its possible to think like we do, with our good intentions at times when we are being berated for not being typical when in fact we could even care more. while not always the case as far as absolutes go, it has been my experience.
@autisticjenny
@autisticjenny 10 месяцев назад
Yes, I understand. I was diagnosed at 48. Yes that is false, they assume me do care about people, but we really do and sometimes too much for our emotions to handle. I might do one of these group collab videos at least once a month. :)
