That first one, be careful and know who you're playing. The crew I play with is aggressive, you leave something shoulder high like that, it's coming back at you with enough speed to sting.

The second I saw that shot I went to the comments. My friends are crushing that shot 10/10 times at my feet

Barrett - you have a new Prince paddle, what did you change? I bought the regular handle and really regret it now, and I'd get one a bit heavier. Love the paddle though

I got one that was a bit heavier. That was the only change. It's still the Response Pro. I also prefer the long handles. But yeah, other than that, no changes.

Could you do a video about the strategy behind doing an Ernie?

I like every shot here. People my argue that hinging the wrist for topspin sacrifices too much control, thus raising the margin of error. But I’m of the mindset that if you practice enough, you can perfect any shot. With that said, a good foundation to have for the CCTSFH is as follows: lock your wrist, crouch low, begin the stroke below the ball, lift with your legs, rotate your hips, extend your elbow right before impact and roll your shoulder through the stroke and follow-through . All this while maintaining a locked wrist. I think you’ll find that this gives a more stable stroke that gives far more control and lessens the margin of error. *the exact same steps can be applied to a backhand stroke.

Sounds like a golf pro trying to explain the golf swing. Keep your arm straight, hinge your wrist. Think I'll just try to hit the ball

Most of the people I play with would return the first demonstrated shot with a banger. I’ve been trying to work on a heavy top spin dropping return shot that results in a pop up from my opponent. Easier to do in tennis.

Would you explain the difference between an “around the post shot” and the “Ernie”? I constantly hear people call the atp an Ernie. Also would you give situations where each is possible/recommend and the three viable executions of the Ernie.

An ATP involves actually hitting the shot on the outside of the net post that never actually crosses over the net. The Erne crosses over the net. Also, the Erne involves you moving outside the kitchen sideline. Few tips: never do an Erne if your partner isn't aware of the strategy. Do an Erne when you think your opponent is going to dink their shot straightaway. You'll either be able to smash it with an Erne, or they'll be forced to change their dink to cross-court which could make them mess up.

Whenever I try that first one (usually unintentionally) my opponent crushes it back at my face.

Most of the shots displayed works because the opponent is not returning any of the balls. Most of the shots can easily be put away in real play.

Daphne, most drills are done cooperatively, not competitively. Once, you get the rhythm of the shot, then you will increase the speed to make the shot more realistic.

As a 5.5 tennis player all these shots are good advice.
