I'm going 59 years old, you're never too old to learn, I do have a background in Isshun Ryu and Kenpo, but I love my machete, it's therapeutic! I wouldn't try this stuff with it? 🤣 But I'm very comfortable with it! Has me interested in sticks, I also played drums 8 years, I glad I found your videos for beginners, gives me an idea of how to train! Thank you
Hello I’ve just turned 70 yrs old I’ve had training in Karate , Kung Fu , Mai Thai and basic Jiu Jitsu ! I’m recovering from major heart ❤️ surgery! So this is a good 👍🏽 practice non contact martial art in the beginning ? When I saw this video I noticed that there wasn’t mention of the basic stance or basic footwork ! Please mention this in regard to using these sticks with basic movement!
LOVE THIS VID (and channel). I'm a solo instructor w/o an org. to work with. I've been doing (and teaching, as part of my TKD-JKD program) single stick work for a few years and am pretty good with the basic 12 count. I mean, I KNOW how to swing me a stick! Lol But double stick? ... Not much more than "a clue". Furthermore, I didn't know how to start, beyond the "1-4-2-3 drill" I learned many years ago. I had checked out a few vids a couple of years back. They did not seem to clarify matters. So, I stopped watching. Then I came across this gem a couple of days ago. This vid does clarify it, big time. Love it. It is a GOOD starting point for me to train, then share. So, BIG THX!!! I do have one question: Do you have a "basic and intermediate blocking" vid? I mean, I do know a couple of blocks and parries. But, for instance, in the "12 count drill" that I was taught, there is a block in the 12 count from '11' to '12' that goes behind the head with the stick pointing more or less down. Now, I include it because I was taught it goes there. But, I don't know how to use it.* I don't remove it because highly skilled ppl have taught me it goes there and as the saying goes "A good mechanic doesn't discard a part just because s/he doesn't understand its purpose". *The reason/story of why I did not learn its use is "a long and not very interesting story". Ask, if you are curious, but as I said, its not very interesting. Lol
WATCHING THE VIDEO FOR FEW TIMES IT LOOKED SO SIMPLE ALMOST STUPID TO FOLLOW BUT IN PRACTICE I GOT VERY CONFUSED FOR A WHILE AT THE END I GOT THEM I PRACTICE IN THE PARK AMONG TREES IN THIS HEAT OF DALLAS TEXAS NOW I GOT THE MOVES BUT WITH EVERYDAY PRACTICE I LL GET THE FLOW SPEED AND THE ENDURANCE ON THE SHOULDERS I HAVE A BAD SHOULDER I NEED TO HEAL I M 52 GUY MY SHOULDERS SORE AND WEAK THE PRACTICE WILL BE MY REMEDY MY STICKS ARE IRON PIPES WITH A BRONCE CUP AT THE END I MADE MYSELF THEM ARE HEAVY AND NO JOKE I DONT LIKE WOOD WEAPONRY❤❤❤
@@derekdd5229..especially those Spanish conquistadores. It was said that many Filipino revolutionaries used eskrima and arnis against their colonizers.
I have escrima sticks. Do those work? I have 2 pairs a traditional hardened bamboo one and a more modern sleek looking one that isn’t bamboo but it’s glossy.

Got a buddy that, former SWAT, LEO, Marine etc. that loves this fight technique. Something I don't get is, how is this a good close combat skill when you mostly won't have sticks on you? Not being sarcastic.
"I'm a beginner in kali it's an unique style of self-defense and wonderful tactics of feet work thanks Paul for sharing this video I really enjoyed to watch u in demanding kali keep up the good work appreciate it
I have had some kali sticks for 5 years or so and have not done anything with them, till now. Mine are heavy wood. Hickory I'm guessing. And I'm strong. They are hard on the wrists. Perhaps I'll get yours.
