TESTIMONIALS
‘Started hitting the moves laid out in these courses the very next class...extremely uplifting to have such a quick improvement in my game’ - Houston, TX
‘I’m the only white belt in the academy doing these moves…I’m suddenly competing at a blue belt and above level…thanks Coach Tom’ - LA, California
‘Some of the best strategies you are going to see for control and submission’ - London, UK
‘The detailed way Prof Tom breaks down his moves into the absolute essentials is just next level for me. This is absolute gold‘ - Sydney, Australia
‘Most of the guys at my Academy, have about 60lbs on me, but since purchasing your ‘Kimura Attack system’ and ’14 days’ everything has changed. I feel much more confident, roll better and the guys on the mat have commented on the same. Thanks, Coach Tom’ - Dallas, TX
‘I know you have your names for your courses, but I’ve renamed them the ‘Zero to hero’ courses, I went from getting constantly owned, to now being completely dominant on the mat in no time at all’ - San Diego, California
‘I use the course material heaps, and just recently put it into action at a local comp, walked away with double gold. No one was more surprised than me! - Miami, Florida
‘As a new white belt, these classes have helped me so much, Prof Tom’s technique, the details, and his attitude. I love how Prof. Tom shows the ‘mistakes people make’ and then shows the correct way of doing things. The only one I have ever seen do this’ - New York, New York
Great videos, great instruction. I just watch them for hours…Melbourne, Australia
‘The instructional saved me big time at a recent comp, my opponent was def more experienced, but that was ok, coz I had Prof Tom’s video in my brain. Nailed it and scored gold’ - Colorado, Denver
‘All of it. Everything you show in your awesome videos are now my ‘go to techniques’. Thanks for your vids Prof, Tom’ - Houston, TX
‘You really have to watch every second of the video because Prof, Tom drops these little nuggets of gold throughout the course. And they make ALL the difference. The only one doing this. Keep them coming Professor’ - NY, New York
‘If I could only be taught from one person, Prof Tom would be it. I can’t wait to train in person one day’ - Dallas, TX
‘Went to a recent competition with these videos fresh in my mind. I knew I had an edge and the confidence this gave me was unreal. Got the gold. All submission wins! - LA, California

It's amazing how quickly you pick up the very basics like this. It's also amazing how quickly you forget it all when you're tired mid-roll!

Guard: 1. Protect your neck 2. Keep good posture up Side: 3. Avoid mount with knee up Half guard: 4. Hold onto their leg 5. Chest pressing people away, exposing arm Thanks!

The absolute best thing ab this video is how he immediately went straight to the point at second one of pressing play on the video. It’s a very highly effective and efficient video bc the focus is ONLY on the content & technique. 🐐💪🏼

I'm lot shorter and lighter than most guys and I found myself being bench pressed off whenever I get any type of top-side control. Never thought of the fact that they were giving me their arm for an armbar every time. I'll have to try this next time I roll

Started 2 months ago, it's good to see I'm doing most things right. When I'm in half-guard, I'll have a triangle on that leg and they expend a lot of energy getting rid of that.

I am so glad to have found this channel. I started my BJJ journey a year ago at age 67. I have learned a few things. My defensive skills are very good. My offensive skills, not so much. What I have in my very small bag of tricks is known by everyone else and so they can defend. Coach Tom explains everything in a slow methodical fashion and repeats steps more than once. I am learning some new things that I can practice with my tribe. It will be interesting to see if I can successfully pull them off. Also

The Grappling Academy my apologies I didn't get to elaborate more on that I'm not familiar with, is it Brazilian Jiujutsu, I'm doing a different martial art it is a Aiki-Jujutsu. Only just recently found out about this RU-vid page as well as a couple others if that. If you have anymore pages\people you know of that's related to martial arts and anyone through here that knows of any, please send them my way! There will possibly be more from me. Catch you later!

Disclaimer, as I'm only a 4-stripe white: Lack of experience will result in defaulting to what the brain perceives to be basic survival. It's easy to get overwhelmed trying to defend every aspect against someone with more experience. One helpful option is to focus on just one of these and drill with someone who will only do the one movement. Once you feel comfy, speed it up a little bit, or have them resist a bit more. If it falls apart, slow it down and/or have them lighten up. Ask for feedback/corrections; sometimes a correction can be a shift in hips/body position. Wash, rinse, repeat.

100% agree I think another really bad thing is when they’re in the guard and they’re putting their hands down and not have a good posture. Or being in Mount and having not good posture. So again not have a good posture is very important very very important.

Are you really in more danger of being submitted in mount than side control? I have heard people say in terms of number of submissions available side control has the most out of any position. Plus mount is way easier to escape.
@TheGrapplingAcademy
@TheGrapplingAcademy 6 лет назад
At a pre black level, side control is worse but at a higher level, mount is a major problem, even after you escape to half or roll them over! (-: Coach Tom Davey
