I'm 61 now. Best concerts for me was: Rush, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, David Bowie, The Rolling Stones, (April 22,1979), Genesis, (1976), Metallica, (1992), King Crimson, (1984), and KISS in 1979. You've seen way more than me in my lifetime, but you didn't get to see the epic bands I saw in their PRIME, LOL. Cheers to you man. All the best to you in 2024 and beyond !!! \,,/..\,,/
Man, you saw some great performers in the prime of their career! I'm a little younger than you (56), and WAS fortunate enough to see some of my favorite bands in their prime like Maiden's and Twisted Sister (first concert, 1984) Triumph and Helix (1985) , Priest and Krokus (1985), Dio (1987), and a bunch of others. Seen probably a couple hundred bands from bars to festivals in the 40 years and so happy that some of my favorites are still putting out new material and touring! Saxon, my favorite band, is a band who consistantly keeps putting out new albums every couple of years and I've seen them about 8 times in the last 10 years! What would you say is your favorite? Mine would be a tie between Maiden's Powerslave tour and Dio's Dream Evil tour! Both were at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto and both were mind blowing! Foo Fighters at Molson amphitheatre on a hot summer night with the warm breeze blowing off lake Ontario gets an honourable mention!
Seeing Pantera and Metallica on the same night in Texas was definitely my favorite show of 2023. So far this year I have tickets to see John 5/Marty Friedman and also Primus/A Perfect Circle/Puscifer. Hope you have a great 2024!
@@metalandrockzone thanks. They were amazing. I first time I saw them was 1992 at a little place that used to be a roller skating rink. At least you can enjoy the music now. Happy New Year from Baltimore!!!
The old warriors of metal will never let you down. Saw Paul DiAnno a few years ago, he nailed it. Airbourne, damn. They always bring their 'A' game. Seen them more times than I can remember.
As for Deep Purple, saw them in 1973 at the Western Idaho Fairgrounds in Boise as a kid. 🤘🤘🤘 I am a US NAVY veteran and retired Army. While in the military for over two decades and stationed all over the world, I was super fortunate to see a $hitload of concerts. While stationed in Germany, Mannheim, I would either rent a car or take the ICE around Europe. From Monsters of Rock and Super Rock both in 1992, a week apart…it was heaven for a Rivethead. From Donnington to Seoul, South Korea…boy. UP THE IRONS 🤘🤘🤘
Wow 1973 I was just being born! I really wished that I could have seen some of those grand masters of rock back in their heyday! Donnington was for me as a kid like a promised land, I went there finally in 2014 or 15 but then it was called download. Thanks for watching Ps. In case you are into Judas Priest then I just dropped a brand new video now about Defenders of the Faith that has a 40th anniversary now --> ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7RJPmZnIwsQ.html
Saw Pantera twice in 2023. First with Metallica, and then at Louder Than Life festival. Both times they were fucking amazing and super energetic. Loved how they showed immense respect for Dimebag & Vinnie, & kept their spirit going strong both times I saw them. Definitely a show I'm gonna remember for the rest of my life 🤘
Yes I will never forget this concert, just want to see them again! Thanks for watching Ps. if you are into Judas Priest then I just put out a new video about Defenders of the Faith as it has a 40th anniversary now ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7RJPmZnIwsQ.html
💯 agree with this. Pantera was my absolute highlight of 2023 (and the last couple of years easily). I saw them in Berlin and HAD TO drive to Hamburg a few days later to see them again. Seeing them in Munich 1998 was my best live experience till this day and this came really close. Of course it’s a tribute, but what a tribute!!! The video installation and light/fire show was KILLER as well. SOOOOOOO DAMN GOOD OMFG 🔥🔥🔥❤️🔥🤘🏻💥
@@metalandrockzone Happy New Year mate 🤘🏻🔥🍻 I hope they will adjust the setlist a bit each time and pull out some gems they rarely played from the CFH and VDP era
Thanks and happy new christmas. This channel deserves so much more than the current 5k subscribers - please keep going. Artists often have the time to come to your area and get reviewed before heading to my general geographical area (Copenhagen+Scania+possibly Gothenburg). Best concert of 2023? AT THE FUCKING GATES, playing all of Slaughter of the Soul at Malmöfestivalen. Saw them close to the stage with my 9 year old daughter (who was wearing earmuffs 🙂)
Thanks for watching, happy xmas and new year. I love doing this channel so not about to quit anytime soon so no worries! I love At The Gates and that album is one of the best Death Metal albums of all time. I would have loved to see that show there in Malmo. Your daughter is having an amazing childhood!
I saw pantera with metallica in arlington and pantera with lamb of god in the woodlands TX. The band AND the crowd was unbelievable, so much energy i was looking around and the stadium looked like boiling water with everyone jumping around. crowd was louder than the PA and at one time they had 6 mosh pits full circle. Ive been to too many shows i can remember and by far when Pantera was playing in dallas was the most controlled amount of chaos you can see, you can literally feel the buzz in the stadium, it felt like at any split second a full on riot can kick off we were so hyped to see Pantera.
This would probably piss off some Pantera fans (but I would actually love to see it) mix in a Black Label Society song in the setlist and give Zakk the mic for a quick second to perform "Suicide Messiah" Probably get blasted for it but my skin is thick.. The Rocco Siffredi comment had me rolling. 🤣 I wish I could get out and see the amount of shows you do, man. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks James, I think that would be great to have Zakk to some BLS songs and even some Zakk Sabbath stuff, that way they could keep the Pantera part to some solid 15 songs or so and maybe throw in 4-5 cool extras like this. I love the idea. I am indeed lucky to be able to see all these bands, there are so many that come through here that if I wanted I could easily see like 3-4 international bands pr week. As for Rocco, the funny thing is that I was his friend on fb some years ago but then wrote him some bs when drunk and he deleted me!
Hell yeah, thanks for the review! I'm seeing Pantera in Toronto in February with Lamb of God opening so I'm stoked! Last time I saw them was in 1999 and that was an amazing show.
No more gigs this year, I might sing some songs off the terrace for neighbours if they pay but I will make one more video! The WORST concerts of the year 2023, stay tuned for an epic drop very soon!
Omg, you are so lucky to see Paul Dianno. I would have loved to take my dad tobsee deep purple but i didn't see that they had any shows planned until too late. Amazing list my dude, keeo on rocking \m/
I saw Pantera in 98 and again this year with Lamb of God opening. I had gotten away from metal for a while but I’m still buzzing from that show 4 months later.
Best metal concert iv'e seen was Anthrax in Melbourne, Australia, on the Persistance of time tour. Was absolutely nuts. The whole crowd was going off and the energy was intense. I couldn't turn my head properly for 2 weeks afterwards lol. Anthrax actually mentioned that gig on an interview because it was their first time in Australia, and they obviously got off on the vibe as well.
I only saw Anthrax a few years ago and they were so much fun, it is one of these bands that I dont like a lot of their albums but they are good live. Thanks for watching and Happy New Year
I was at that gig too in 1990 at the Entertainment Center. I remember the stage barrier collapsing and heaps of people jumping on stage, they had to stop playing.
Indoor sports arena’s are notoriously difficult to sound engineer. Especially when it’s half full, they are basically large concrete boxes, your observation is 100% correct. Additionally Charlie is a absolute madman on his instrument, if anyone can pull off Vin’s accurately, it’s Charlie.
Sepultura is one of those bands that really "Miss" their founder,Guitarist and Vocals...The only One Max Cavalera. With Him, Sepultura still are One of the Greatest Metal Bands Ever. They were a "Monster" on live shows.
Yes would be amazing if they did one reunion tour! Thanks for watching You might want to check out my new video about 5 bands that I think might become big in 2024 (part 2) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MiEzRbYeU-U.html
Jo Napot Kivanok! Yes I really do hope that Pantera continues to tour for the next few years. The energy they have is not matched by many bands. Closest I have seen that in recent years is Kataklysm, Sepultura and In Flames (when they are on their day)
I caught Sepultura this year, but with Kreator and Death Angel in San Francisco so it was tough competition that night. Probably my 5 favorite of the year were Vio-Lence, Warbringer, Kreator, Death Angel, and Defiance. Honorable mention to my buddies band Frolic who got to open shows for both Death Angel/Forbidden and Suicidal Tendencies/Possessed this year. Most wild show was Havok and Toxic Holocaust in Berkely. The Bay Area Thrash scene was on fire this year.
Yes Thrash is having sort of a comeback I feel. I haven't seen Kreator for 6 years or so now but Havok I am seeing I think in the summer. Thanks for watching and Happy New Year
@@mtlmark75 Ya, could have easily put them in my list. Only thing holding them back is they had some sound issues. Saw them open for Anthrax in Oakland and it was a rager. Could easily add Anthrax in too, so many great shows in '23. Metal is very much alive.
Got to see Sepultura at Alcatraz, Belgium, August 2023. I have never gone so crazy then during their set … amazing energy from the stage … got up close ( first 10 rows ) … huge name from bucket list, glad I finally caught them ( seeing ending tour in 2024 ).
@@Mathijs1308 Did you catch Forbidden at Alcatraz? I saw them in a small warm up venue before that in the Bay Area, also just with DA in SF. Love those guys. Drummer Chris Kontos and the new singer Norman Skinner are great dudes.
I saw Machine head in 2022, i wasnt very impressed, saw them also in 2008 or 09 and then they were really good, felt they were off in 2022. Thanks for watching and Happy New Year
I saw machine head touring with amon amarth in 2022, and was one of the best concerts that i saw in my life. Machine head post the the hole concert in RU-vid, it was in PORTUGAL with the wildest moshpit of all time.

Gave the thumbs up just for that Rocco Sifferdi -comment. But yeah, my best gig for 2023 was also Pantera. Saw them in Hyvinkää, Finland, Rockfest. But my biggest surprise was at the same festival, Sick of it All. I have heard the name of the band but I don't think I have ever heard a song from them. Me and friend were there early and had to kill some time so we listened to some SoiA and damn I was like ok ... this shit's good. Went to see them perform and DAMN! THIS SHIT'S GOOD! Moshpits and all, had a blast.
Sick of it All are great, I saw them 1995! And they came here also to Prague last year and people told me they were amazing. Long live Rocco! thanks for watching
I went to Summer Breeze this August and it was my first metal festival. My metalhead friends convinced me to come along for the whole week and i loved every second of it. We also saw Sepultura there and yea the atmosphere was amazing, way better than we originally thought. Kataklysm was also really fun (when you could actually see the stage and not look behind you for incoming crowdsurfers). Archspire was also a really good performance. As you said, Megadeth was very professional and enjoyable but doesn't get the crowd moving as much as Hatebreed for example.
No that is true with Megadeth, that is more like an orchestra gig than a all hell breaking loose metal gig. Sounds like you made the right decision to go to Summer Breeze. Thanks for watching.
Saw Pantera this year and completely lost my hearing for 2 days and went to see Metallica with Pantera after the 2 days. I was super worried about the hearing loss from the Pantera show. They were amazing!!
Was that when Pantera played on the circular stage with Metallica? Wonder how the sound was there. I just hope Pantera will go out more with this stuff, it was so refreshing to go to a gig where people just went nuts! Thanks for watching and Happy New Year
@@metalandrockzone it actually wasn’t, Pantera was playing side shows in between the dates with metallica. I got to see Pantera headline with Lamb of God opening in a outdoor traditional stage set up and they brought it for sure so did lamb of god. 2 days later I went to see Metallica and Pantera was opening for them and they still sounded great on the circular and were fantastic but the intimacy of the traditional stage was missing (everyone was scattered about the circular stage) and you ended up wishing they had a longer set. The audience was fantastic both nights.
That will be great, I would have loved to meet Vinnie and Dime back then ! Ps. You might want to check out my BRAND NEW video about 5 (more) bands that I think might become big in 2024 (PART 2) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MiEzRbYeU-U.html
I finally saw WASP in '23 after many MANY years of not getting off my arse to go and see them, and whilst there were criticisms about backing tracks and short concert lengths, they were just so bloody good and that man Blackie Lawless just doesn't seem to have lost one iota of ability in 40 years. Seriously fucking loved it !!
Saw WASP in I believe 86. To this day, In my top 5 shows Ive ever seen. Brian Setzer Orchestra with aTexas Gentleman opening in San Francisco was and still is the best show Ive ever seen.
I saw Foreigner with special guest April Wine early 80’s. Only concert I ever seen that the special guest band played an encore. Crowd was actually chanting April Wine,April Wine!
Pantera was amazing. I never saw them in the 90s, which I regret, but it was an amazing show because the band was tight and the setlist was great. For sentimental reasons Pantera and KISS (First time seeing live) were my favorites, but the concert that really blew me away was Gojira. The energy was insane.
I saw Gojira both this year and last year and last year I felt they were better but that could also have been the venue and the whole vibe in the building etc. Thanks for watching and Happy New Year
Wow that is impressive! I think I might have seen them 8-10 times. I am seeing Dave Ellefson here in March, that will be interesting. Thanks for watching and Happy New Year.
I seen Pantera in America with Lamb of God. Both bands r 8n my top 5 bands & they were very tight & had perfect sound & volume. They also opened for Metallica in the States.
It was Great to hear that Metallica made it to the #2 spot...BUT...I had to give up my tickets I had for So Cal in August '23 because I moved to Thailand the prior June. I have seen Metallica at least 15 times since the 1st time @ The Stone in '83 when they opened for Y&T when hardly anybody even knew them! I even made it backstage because I had a friend who was pals with Cliff Burton, but had no clue as to who these "kids" were going become! Do you have any info on any hard acts coming to Bangkok this year or some media I can check out with that kind of info? **New Subscriber-Thanks!**
@@metalandrockzone What's weird is it wasn't a Metallica gig! They were opening for Y&T who was HUGE at the time...especially playing a small club like that too. Metallica was FAST & HARD though! Blew most people away! I got to meet all of them, but they were just kids in a local band! 🤣
The comment "not sure if would want to be soilwork going on stage after kataklysm"... I think I witnessed the ultimate version of this when I saw Volbeat follow Gojira. I felt bad for them...
Megadeths sound right now is amazing. Dave's voice is sorta weak but I'm seen them twice in as many years. With LOG and i think 5fdp the other. Their live sound is pounding for sure.
I am not a big Power Metal fan in general but I did see Accept in 2023 and UDO in 2022 and seeing him again in 2 months. I like those two but the other bands I am not a big fan of.
Not sure if you have seen Shinedown great live band. I saw Airborne open for them like 10 years ago I liked them but definitely no pyro or anything glad to see they are doing good.
@metalandrockzone Shinedown fans call it a rabbit hole 7 albums and all different. Hard rock, Metal, alternative, nu metal, southern rock and pop influences in their music. Brent Smith is 1 of the best vocalist out there right now.
There is something that he has that gave their music some edge that I was so rare. I would have loved to see him sing some of their later stuff as well just to see how he would have handled it. Thanks for watching and Happy New Year.
That St. Louis gig looked great, I wish that Pantera would have been with them in Germany where I saw them but at least I got to see Pantera finally. Thanks for watching and happy new year.

That's quite sick! 100 bands is more than I've been to in my life LOL. Want some recommendations for next year? Japanese band Lovebites is heading to Europe next year. Been put up for some festivals in Spain and France already, but I BET they will have some concerts in Europe, with their blend of power/trash/speed etc. If you love 80s, you WILL love them. Next is the 3 mexican sisters in The Warning. Don't be fooled by their age. They've been doing music since they could walk. It shows. They have already warmed up for GnR, Foo Fighters and Muse, who also invited them to warm up on some of their EU/UK shows. It didn't go unnoticed, so MTV invited them to 2023 VMA. They might be the next big thing. Could be last time you see them play for less than a 1000. They have some gigs in EU in April. Be fast because most are sold out. Good studio band, but really shines on stage. I wanted to add another Japanese band here. Like Band-maid... But seen no concerts put up for next year... exept online or in Japan. Probably not the US since they during a year had about 30 gigs there.. + some festivals.
Thats great Andreas, er du Dansk? I lived in Copenhagen for 5 years. I am hearing a lot about Lovebites, gave them a spin the other day and will check them out more. Also The Warning I clearly need to check as well so thanks for the tips! Thanks for watching and Happy New Year.
It is cheaper than one would think. 2 big festivals with 200 bands, most gigs in town have 3-4 bands so it adds up. Plus I don't (according to my girlfriend) do anything else!
Here in Czech Republic there is a constant flow of bands, big and small. Thanks for watching. Ps. You might want to check out my new video about 5 bands that I think might become big in 2024 (part 2) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MiEzRbYeU-U.html
Hypocrisy was founded in 1990 in Ludvika Sweden, by Peter Tagtgren. The First two albums are nothing in common with the later albums, they're oldschool death metal, inspired by the early florida Death Metal scene, then they switched and started doing more doomy/melodic stuff. Hypocrisy last year had a few bad concerts, Peter was sick or the sound at some venues is bad. This year Peter focused more on PAIN and he only played Festivals with Hypocrisy, so i feel like the rest of the band wanted to play the songs much more than last year, also Hypocrisy is either really good in a club with less than a 1000 people... or death metal festivals, like Brutal Assault. Still Happy to being able to see them mentioned, as they're really underrated now. Used to be one of the biggest melodeath bands in the late 90's and early 2000's. My list for this year is gonna be as follows: 5 - Pantera, i wanted to chill out, but then they started i went into the pit and i had fun... it was amazing. 4 - Ensiferum, i saw them live last year as well, but they performed in front of less people this year, so the crowd energy was better, they had a mid sound, thing is, in the venue they're playing, the sound is really shit usually. 3 - Kataklysm, First time seeing them, oh wow, i was just stunned, the sound was great, the crowd was great, the energy was top notch and i thought it would be my favorite concert of the year... but... 2 - Nile, I wasnt the biggest of Nile fans prior to the concert, but i listened to some of their music, then they started playing and holy fucking shit, they played at the same venue as Kataklysm in the same month ~ 750 people in attendance, but everyone was on their feet, jumping, screaming, moshing, having fun, the performance was amazing and the energy they gave off was sick. Brutal show and a brutal performance. 1 - PAIN, Being the Peter Tagtgren fan that i am, it isnt a surprise, but i didn't expect to enjoy PAIN live more than any of the bands on the list, thing is Peter gave off a lot of energy during the concert, they where interacting with each other on stage and the sound was okay, not good, because in that venue, you just can't have a good sound, but everything else made up for it and i am biased. Honorable mentions for me: I am Morbid, Vulvectomy, Possessed, Engeneer of Death and last but not least Askeesi.
Hi, thanks for watching and commenting. I am a big Hypocrisy fan myself so I was very happy to see this gig in the summer, Tagtren clearly is a genius of some sorts. I missed Ensiferum last time they came here, Nile I saw last summer but it was middle of the day and didn't really get me. Pain I also missed as they were the last night at BasinFire Festival and I went home early (not drunk, just tired). I am Morbid actually could have made my honourable mentions, they were amazing at Brutal Assault and better then when I saw them the year before. I need to check Askeesi and Vulvectomy, don't really know these bands.
Yes I knew that but messed it up as we use a silly terminology in Iceland about decades so we say 90's for the year 80-90 as they are counting into the 90th decade. Thanks for watching.
@@metalandrockzone I'm from Germany, so I wanted to see them here obviously. But they are copletely sold out here, but Austria was still available... So I was like: 'Fuck it... I wasn't there for a long time, so what...' So I bought the one for Austria right after watching your video. 👍
I really want to go to the pit once, will check that Austria stuff then on that, Saw that Munich was sold out on the pit, so is Warsaw. Metallica should pay me for getting you to buy a ticket! @@SuidAkrA1

Anselmo is not cancelled in England. Pantera are playing in UK in 24. He should've played with his own band at Bloodstock, doing a Pantera set, a couple of years ago but pulled out, obviously because he knew the Pantera thing was happening in 23.

Yes I saw both in in last two years. CC were amazing, Mayhem was not as good but that was also an outdoor venue and not a great sound. Thanks for watching.
@@metalandrockzone I saw both bands in a theater setting with Gorguts....Mayhem was killer, but I am not so much of a fan of the Deathcrush album.....which Atilla screamed his way through the final four songs of the set. To see CC open with Scourge Of Iron and to see Alex Webster, perhaps the greatest metal bassist of all time, was worth the price of admission.....Erik Rutan was KILLER as well. "i saw over 100 bands live" It may sound idiotic, but how is this possible? I know you explained it, but it's still logistically impossible. And the second question is also very serious. Where did you get the money for this? After all, it costs tens of thousands of dollars per year (tickets, travel, hotels, food). Being at such a huge number of concerts a year, you can't have a rather ordinary job from Monday to Friday. So you either come from a wealthy family 😋 or you run a business yourself that doesn't interfere with the time you devote to concerts. I'm interested in this from a purely technical point of view, how do you manage it all?
Well, I have a few things in my favour here. Firstly here in Prague there are gigs on average 3 times a week that I can go and see metal/rock. Each gig has at least 3 bands and the cost of each gig is probably about 20-40 euros which I guess is kind of low vs elsewhere. Then I go larger gigs as well and there the same 3 bands and I always see the opening acts. Then the festivals, one of them has 150 bands over 5 days and the other about 40 bands. The entrance to these are like 100-150 Euro. I never drink at concerts or festivals so there are not much other costs for me. Obviously when I go somewhere further away I need a place to stay etc but that is maybe 3-4 times a year. So yes I do spend quite a lot on this but I think it is less than one would guess and I don't spend money on a lot of other stuff to be honest.
@@metalandrockzone Ok now I understand. You just live in the perfect place. I live in a small town in the south of Poland, so such a situation is impossible for me, and I would also like to attend as many concerts as possible. Congratulations on your perseverance and I hope nothing bad happens during these concerts, that's the most important thing.
The copyright is not a biggie for YT as such as then the artist can actually make money from my video (revenue share) I have been considering this to be honest but it is a bit more work on the editing part and also I feel that the sound from a phone recording often doesn't deliver what I feel in the arena/club. But I might give it a try and see how it comes out. Thanks for watching.
