Late last year there was a double-header tour for Def Leppard and Motley Crue here in Australia. Def Leppard rocked hard and performed out of their skins, but Motley Crue were a case study in what a lifetime of excess and substance abuse looks like at 60+. The two halves of the show were like night and day sadly.

Same thing here in Colombia. Joey Elliot spent the night before the concert at a hospital due to altitude sickness (Bogotá is located right above a high mountain) The next day, him and the rest of Def Leppard were just perfect. Unfortunatelly, that was not the case for the Crue, the mos dissapointing gig I have ever been.

I saw maiden at Manchester, UK about a month after you saw them. Watching footage from concerts before I saw them, I was worried they'd lost their touch. When Manchester came round they were on point. Bruce's vocals sounded awesome. Nicko was faster and throwing his fills back in. Band chemistry was there. It's sad that not all concerts were like that, but they definitely redeemed themselves as the tour went on
@metalandrockzone

Yes I saw that also watching some later gigs that luckily they got it together. And it makes perfect sense that here they were not at their best considering what was going on before with Nicko. Thanks for watching.

I think it's odd they wouldn't have mentioned it in shows to say, "Hey, Nicko had a stroke but he's doing it here!" That would have gotten the audience behind him and they'd know why things weren't the same.

Each to their own. but I would no longer pay to see bands I adored in the 70s, 80s and early 90s - they are just too old, particularly if they've lived the rock'n'roll life. I'm not saying that many of them can't still make music, I'm just stuck in a time warp with Sabbath, Priest and Maiden and that's how I want to remember them. Thanks for the vid.

I was at the first Maiden gig in Praga, and I really enjoyed it! I could see that there were a few things going on that I'd never seen at Maiden gigs before, like a brief period where I could hear that the band weren't playing together, but they were doing hard music, and we know the situation with Nicko. I was just made up to see them again, and loved the gig. My nine-year-old son was with me, and he loved it as well. The main issue I had was the boring crowd; as I was with my son I was in the seats, and around me people stayed sat down when the Maiden came on, and around me no-one sung along!
@metalandrockzone
@metalandrockzone 8 месяцев назад
Yes there was something off there I felt, I saw them at Sinobo stadium the summer before and then they were amazing and the crowd was very much switched on there. I am sure that the fact that Nicko had this problem sort of infected the whole band and from there to the crowd because I didn't feel that Bruce got people going on this concert. Thanks for watching.

didn't you say it was the 2nd show of the tour? it's damn normal for a band to have to shake off the rust from 35 year old songs and brand new ones that were never played live on the first few shows of a tour. Can't compare that to Kiss and Motley Shit being all around crap, not just the first days and without having strokes. Mick Mars being an exception, but he's always cool@@metalandrockzone

I feel Maiden's problem was that they simply did not rehearse properly. The first 3 weeks was a rehearsal. People said to me first couple of shows are always a warm up. Well then, call them tour previews and set the tickets at a lower price range. Like you a fan for 40 years. Was a tough bite to swallow.

So it makes no sense to talk about Peter and Ace like that... Paul also bashed Milli Vanilli lip synching in 1990 Hot in the Shade Tour.. it was my first KISS concert , Paul bashed them, I witnessed it... This is a great point. I am guilty as charged - I like to capture most of the first concert song, then maybe other stuff as well. But there comes a time when one must rock out. It's funny thinking about how much the crowd was into Van Halen, Metallica, Maiden, etc. back in the 80's. Saw Halen on the OU812 Tour in Sacramento. The place was going ape ___. Those were the days.

As the tour progressed, they started sounding much better and toward the end of the tour, they sounded just as good as they did on their Legacy tour the year before. It was so confusing because I had just seen them live in the US, October 2022 and they sounded F'in amazing. Props and respect to Nicko. Such a great human being and warrior to come back from that. I can't wait to see them live again in Vegas 2024. You are right, though.. they were bad when you saw them and you can't change that (no matter the reason). Motley Crue and KISS... Kiss this summer in Prague was my first ever concert. My dad bought me tickets for my birthday and we went together. I enjoyed it so much despite all the things people say. They are old so of course they're not gonna be as perfect as they were during the 70s or 80s. Yeah, they're not gonna jump and roll around on stage anymore. Yeah, Paul's voice is hoarse. Yeah, they most likely need help from backing tracks sometimes. Despite all that, it was one of the best introductions to concerts that I could ever get. Honestly cannot wait for the avatar concert in 2027.

Well I get that, I am pretty sure that if this would have been my first ever concert I would have felt completely differently about this experience. The Avatar thing will be very interesting and once again Kiss are leading the way in new dimensions, they did that also with all the stage shows, makeup, fireworks and all the merchandising. Thanks for watching.

The worst concert of 2023 was Limp Bizkit. Fred Durst was ill and wasn't able to sing. Instead of cancelling the concert, they started a karaoke show and let some random fans enter the stage and "sing" the songs. Some of them were pretty good but most of them were just bad. It was such a disgrace.

After seeing Pantera in 1992 at the Palladium, I can assure you nothing has been better. Maybe up to 2000. I saw Cannibal, Morbid, Suffocation, Slayer, Metallica, Danzig, even Misfits when they rebanded together and Danzig was ON POINT, Manson, NiN, Sepultura, White Zombie, Mr. Bungle (that was a wierd show), Faith no More....I don't know probably 20 other bands. No damn cell phones in the air, just music. Tell me how nice it would be to go to a concert now and see ZERO cell phones. That's what I thought, impossible now. I think Danzig tried to do a cell phone check in thing that may have worked, but it's just so prolific it's out of hand!

I went to a Maiden Legacy of the Beast concert last year with my mother, who got me started on their music. First rock concert I've ever been to and it was really cool since Bruce really knows how to put on a show. It sucks for Nicko that he can't perform as great as he used, but I'm still looking forward to their arrival in the Midwest for the Future Past tour. The sad fact of the matter is that as old as these bands are, they'll never perform as great as they once could have, so it's up to us fans to show our appreciation for their willingness to get up and try to anyway. Hell I ain't 20 yet, so most of these guys won't be around for the majority of my life.

Well you for sure picked the right band to see as a first show! And your mom is amazing! I saw the legacy tour also and they were amazing, gave them 9.5 for that performance. This gig I saw on this tour was the 2nd gig and as far as I have seen and heard it got really good so I am sure you will see them in top form when they come around. I think these days it takes them a few shows to find their stride somehow plus obviously these massive issues that Nicko had due to his stroke at the start of the Future Past Tour. I was surprised to see you say Maiden, until you mentioned how early in the tour the show was. I saw them late in the tour, and they were as solid as ever. I saw Mötley Crüe in 2022, before Mick left. It wasn’t only the worst concert I saw that year. It was the worst I’ve *ever* seen. Not only is Vince’s voice completely shot (and I agree that it was never good live, anyway), but nobody in the band seemed to want to be there. I get that Mick was touring in pain, so I get it with him. Tommy brought a bit of energy when he came upfront to talk, but that was it. Nikki and Vince should have just tattooed “Give us money” on their foreheads and stood there. I left before it ended, which I’ve never done before. Vince sounded terrible and gave no impression that he cared.

I am surprised he mentions Iron Maiden because I never cared for Maiden at all until I saw them live I was blown away and became an instant fan. My most memorable concert of all time was insane it was so loud my ears rang for days and everytime the drummer hit th ebass drum my heart skipped a beat.Two parents asked me to look after their kids they couldn't take it anymore and to be honest I considered taking breaks. That band was not your typical household name but it was VENOM. I truly can't say I witnessed many poor performances maybe Metallica master of Puppets was pretty weak but then again I never really cared for that album. Motley Crue getting rid of Mick is the worst thing they've done without addressing Vince at all. Mick's new album sounds good what I've heard so far. I think the other thing with Vince is that even when he was young, he wasn't that dynamic as a frontman, so to sound this bad now, and he barely moves just compounds it. However, I am having a hard time finding metal based music that I can understand. I can appreciate, and often seek to understand, the "why" and "how" of music, in general. No I am actually from Iceland but I have connections to Hungary. I totally agree with you that music has changed, I think the digital aged changed it a lot because it both opened the doors for everyone to create and distribute music but it also mean you could copy other bands sounds and effects, you could make sure that every second of your song is perfect and that makes a lot of music a bit soul-less. Yikes, I've been a Rivethead since the FWOBHM and I wouldn't have paid a nickel to see any of these last 4 geezers, never mind expect a decent performance. Props to you for taking one for the team, though.

greetings from Chile. I've never been a huge Motley Crue fan, but i got free tickets for their show since the stadium where they played is literally next to my gf's house, and the producers have to give away tickets to the neighbors. It was a huge let down. It was fun, i agree, tons of rocker milfs, but the voice really brought down the whole show. And the opening act was Def Leppard, which is one of my early memories with Let's Get Rocked, but they were also super slow

In the early 2000's I was discovering different types of metal. An ex GF played a couple of Limp Bizkit songs from the 1st album and I thought it sounded ok. Just ok. Not killer. I went and saw them live. I had no idea how Hip Hop influenced they were until the show started. Without question, the worst show I've ever seen in my life and I left lol

It's really disappointing to see Iron Maiden on your list. I've seen them twice in the past (Powerslave and Somewhere in Time tours) and they were fantastic both times. Hopefully once Nicko is back to 100% they will be back to their normal great shows.

Motley Crue gets away with using tape. Why? Because people today have zero standards or morals. 30 years ago those bums would be DONE!

Motley's pretty rough now... But Vince was not always terrible... What he always was, was hit or miss. Some nights he was awful, and sang words out of every sentence...some nights he was fine. I saw them on the Dr Feelgood tour in 1990. And they were great on that particular night... And Vince was probably as good as I'd ever heard him. But now... Since they got back together after the early 90s break up... Hes been awful ever since

@@metalandrockzone Yeah that was actually my first big rock show lol... and they were my favorite band at the time, from the time I was like 7 til the time I was like 17 or something. It was Motley Crue with Faster Pussycat opening at Rupp Arena in Lexington Ky. March 18th 1990, I'll never forget it. I wish there was a live video of it up on youtube, but theres not. Theres a few from around that time.. but no footage from the Rupp show. I got to see a lot of great shows from the 90s... Saw Pantera a couple of times, White Zombie, Saw Manson twice on his Anti-christ superstar tour.. Metallica on their Black album run.. Lol.. Feel pretty privileged for real... Saw probably close to 100 bands between 90 and 2010... and never paid more than maybe 50 bucks... that particular show my ticket was 18.50 and ther tour shirt was like 15 bucks lol. Now days, you can't get a seat within rock throwing distance for less than 100 bucks lol. Concerts are not what they used to be.. Sadly. Everythings so formulaic now.. and theres so many backing tracks and other crap.. its just not the same. Half the bands out there now days, if somebody steals their laptop they have to cancel the tour lol.

@@metalandrockzone happy, indeed! I thought openers Blackbraid and 200 Stab Wounds brought more energy (and the headliner Dark Funeral crushed them, but I expected them to crush as always). Travis’ vocals sounded shockingly off. He used an annoying, screechy voice for most of his crowd banter, and the set list felt brief even relative to the other openers It was okay. I was just disappointed because their studio output is pretty awesome. It might have just been one of those nights for them, or maybe my expectations were just too high 🤷 I bet they kick ass at your show. Probably just got unlucky that night

The WORST concert I’ve ever been to was Motley Crüe’s bullshit farewell tour in 2014. We even got gypped on the drum coaster track thing that brought Tommy Lee over the crowd because we were at a shitty amphitheater that lacked the proper rigging. Vince was gasping out every 3rd word or so but it mostly sounded like Steve Carrel with the frog in his throat in Bruce Almighty. At least we got a killer show from Alice Cooper beforehand.
