Good list and good video, thanks for posting it. WT Rare Breed Rye is my favorite by far. I like Sagamore Double Oaked Rye, as well. I have Bulleit 95, and I use it exclusively for mixing and making cocktails.
Great list! My top 5 available ryes at the moment are: - Literally anything Sagamore (8 Year, DO, Rum Finished, Sherry Finished, Cognac Finished, Calvados Finished, Port Finished, CS, BiB, etc.) - Penelope Toasted BS (SP) - Senator BP - Prideful Goat 6 Year - WT RB Honorable mention goes to: RR SiB, Pikesville, HW Rendezvous Rye, Still Austin, and Stellum BS. Hope y'all do an allocated/higher dollar rye video if you haven't already. I'd propose Michter's BS, Kentucky Owl, OF SBBS, New Riff Malted Rye, and Redwood Empire CS Emerald Giant as some early contenders. Cheers!
So for a first time trying rye person that doesn’t have a great tasting palate yet would you recommend starting by buying the bulleit rye first since it’ll give the easiest to pick out “rye” taste? Or is it too much to start with?
My favorite rye currently is Sagamore cask strength, also a 95/5 MGP distillate. Riverset cask strength from Blue Note is great as well and in Tennessee runs $44!
Cool list. I finished my Costco Bulleit Rye bottle last month. It's decent but not for my must have list. My list of 5 are all readily available near me & in no particular order of ranking: 1) Redemption Rye (95/5 mash bill) 2) Sagamore Spirit Double Oak 3) Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Rye 4) Wild 🦃 Rye 101 (Rare Breed is readily available as well but haven't tried it yet 🤔) 5) Toss -up between: - Woodford Reserve Rye - Elijah Craig Straight Rye Honorable Mention: - Knob Creek Single Barrel Rye - Sazerac 6-yr Rye - Templeton Rye (any)
Great list. Just curious, when do you two reach for a rye instead of bourbon? Is there a certain time of year? Or special occasion? Or just when you want a change from bourbon. Cheers
For a budget friendly rye, I really like Old Forester 100 - which you already covered, Alias - a fairly new, extremely budget-friendly release from Ross and Squibb, and Old Overhold Bonded. Old Overholt is strongly herbal but not that spicy. It is a different take than most of the rest, but definitely delicious.
Nice list! I enjoy all the Sagamore’s especially the PX, and dbl oak, Rare Breed, Russell’s Reserve 6yr, Elijah Craig, and one that is very unique is the Belfour Rye!
@@TheAverageDrinker Yes, I am enjoying a dram of that sneaky good Uncle Nearest right now! It is flying under the radar, yet so mildly wonderful. The clean entry builds with beautiful sweet spice and a long finish. I'm on my second bottle back-to-back and will go back for a third. 100% Rye Mash Bill on this bottle is worth every penny.
