Once upon a time, I rented a one bed-room basement for just 500 bucks a month. It is within walking distance from the BC Hydro HQ, my former work place back in 1997.
Doesn't the video cover all cities approximate to Vancouver without "Vancouver" in its name ? The rent on Metrotwon/Brentwood is on par with Vancouver downtown nowadays. It is nothing near affordable.
Hi RR dencel. Thanks for your great videos. My question is how did pay the fees to the college? was it via debit card or you had paid after you arrived in Canada? Please answer me this question please. Thank you
Hi Rachel. Thank you for all your wonderful videos! I am from the Philippines and will be traveling to Vancouver in June. May I know the best way to reach you (email add or mobile number) ? I just have some questions regarding ‘moving and living in Vancouver’. Thank you!!
Great video!! BC is a very beautiful province for sure and can see why many love living there. But i must say it’s not a fun province to live in, if money is a concern. Paying $2000 rent towards someone else’s mortgage just blows my mind.
Hi O B, Hopping in here to help answer this question! With fewer apartment building rentals available in the market, and more secondary units such as basements, laneway houses and ground floor units, we've noticed an increase in the number of landlords offering furnished options within those types of properties. Since the rental average for secondary units historically has lower prices compared to apartment buildings, this brings the prices for furnished properties down substantially, compared to unfurnished. For more info on rental prices, feel free to check out our latest Canadian rent reports: link.liv.rent/1ge 🙂
Hi Rachel! We’re planning to move to Canada from PH this coming April and are looking for places to rent. What neighborhoods/areas do you suggest we definitely should avoid (in terms of safety, access to transpo, cost, etc)? Thanks and hope you’re doing ok (after not being able to go back home last Dec)!
Hi love! Omg, you’re coming in just a few weeks now - very excited for you! Preferably want to be near where you’ll be attending school. Some neighbourhoods that have bad reps are Surrey, according to many locals. However, do note - the closer you are within Vancouver, typically the higher the rental rates are. Especially now. The rental market is through the roof 😩 UCW is in the heart of downtown - so no issues in terms of accessibility. But I’d personally choose to live in Burnaby or Richmond 😌
“Thanks for your information, but there is a big mistake in your movie. The table price of cost of living is not accurate with what you’re speaking about, and the price of unfurnished apartments is higher than that of furnished ones. in some towns”
Hi there, liv.rent uses current data to reflect the average prices. They obtain this data from the current listings on their website. On rare occasions, you will see furnished listings with a lower average price when compared to unfurnished listings. At the time of posting this video, the prices of furnished houses were lower than unfurnished houses. Hopefully, that explains the discrepancy. 😊
I’ve lived here my entire life. Started renting 7 years ago when a 1 bedroom in Vancouver could be found for $1500 or less at times, in Surrey the price for a 1 bedroom could be below $1000. Now, the prices have skyrocketed. In Vancouver you are lucky to find a one bedroom under $2000, with the median being $2300, and in Surrey the price of a one bedroom has gone up to a whopping $1800+ I am actively renting and searching for rentals every day on every single rental website available and each area has completely gone up to an almost unattainable amount. The reality is becoming that it’s going to be much harder for you to find a place as a renter in Vancouver unless there is some major zoning changes which for Vancouver is unfortunately an extremely slow process.
Vancouver looks like it's always cold, but city where i live in Serbia (Čačak) is actually colder in winter. It's now 8c where i live (17c/3c), and Vancouver is 20C (21c/13c), and it's spring, winter is yet to start.
Thank you for the valuable information shared in this video. I am about to arrive in Canada and frankly freaking out at the prospect of renting, also afraid of the scams. I am definitely going to checkout the liv portal for more info
Hello, I have just got my ppr, my class will start on the 26 September, my University is UCW, which area will be more beneficial for me if my budget is 600-700 cad for a single room??
Surrey is the best and cheapest it’s the last city in the lower mainland metro Vancouver area that has access to the expo line sky train station there are 2 sky train stations in surrey that is Surrey Central and King George that will go directly to Vancouver And takes 30 min to get to Vancouver it’s only a 30-40 min drive to Vancouver
Thanks so much Ms Rachel. I'm so grateful that I bumped to this vlog of yours. I'm been looking elsewhere and none compares to your comprehensive approach to rental discussions and reiteration of options and choices looking for an apartments to rent in Vancuever. I'm moving from Singapore and I'm in a Medical profession. I'm looking for a place to stay with my families of 4. As my youngest daughter is taking medicine courses in BC or Vancuever, if God wills. You opened up my mind incredibly what to consider and what pointers to mark, on my journey in finding a rental place to stay . You also broaden my perspective where to get a house or property, as I'm looking fora pkace to buy and live permanently. I will browse and chew and absorb better all your entries and vlog here in YT. And in any doubts and clarification and enlightenment, maybe I'll Zap you messages here. And if your kind enough to render me some valuable and credible answer I can keep on my progress and selection in getting a place or apartments or house or condominium to stay for time being. Thanks so much. More power to you 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Please sir can I be able to obtain this visa after paying for the part tuition deposit I applied for undergraduate in MBA at university Canada west I’m 26 years now I hope my age won’t be a problem while applying for the visa? Thanks so much for reply
Hi Dear, Unfortunately, I don’t know anyone with a room in the area you are looking for. Also, that area is quite expensive and is in high demand. You may want to consider options further out.
Hi Rachel! Next month I'll be in Vancouver for diploma program and I'm looking for a student residence/dormitory. I would be very grateful if you give me some tip about how to reach of their links. Thank you in advance!
Rent is ridiculous anywhere on BC. Lower mainland is immigration central. Little India. Rents are sky high everywhere here. I know because I have huge family all over BC. Ridiculous high rents . No such thing as lower rent in Burnaby or anywhere lower mainland it is all ALL high cost rents.
Hi Rachel. Can you shed some light on UCW? I've got an LOO from UCW for MBA and I'm a little confused as to accept the offer or try some other college.
Is this video for students? Because your video is not very realistic. 2000 for rent is expensive. Some people don't even make 2000 a months. No apartment should be more than 1000. Having a decent apartment should not be a luxury.
As mentioned in the beginning of the video, I live in the most expensive city in Canada. So the numbers are on the high side but it’s usually better to expect more than less given that most international students choose to study in major cities. Although I do agree with you (most locals would say this too) real estate is on the high side and we hope renting could be more affordable for everyone here.
Unfortunately, rent has gone up in most major desirable cities around the world. So in these places, rents can be upto 60% of your income. I guess there are many factors for people to compete for living space in a certain location (jobs, weather, safety…etc).
I loveeeeee North Vancouver. Plus you get to be close to all these nice hiking places for the summer. Super family-oriented, beautiful nature scenery and access to all these great amenities.
Yes! I like the cinemas by there! They have a premium-like movie lounge with la-z boy seats for $13 ish. Haha love watching movies there sometimes hehe just sharing 😜
Sorry to disappoint you. However, I did mention 5 cities in my title, thumbnail and also the introduction as well. I can try to make it clearer next time.
